When I said: "You'll outlast me, you live more carefully." He said: "Write out what you want to." Ok, it's hard to say I knew him well, He was enigmatic to himself. Which of us was more aware? Which the elder? I was born November fifth. He on October 13th - a few weeks premature, you following me? He was born three weeks before me, my dear, But he was a premature baby. Were we both conceived at the same instant? February 5th 1941, the dead middle of winter, In the heart of World War Two Was I born at the right time? For 70 years his arm has been around my shoulder, He's dazzled me with gifts. I nurtured him in his youth. He brought me into prominence. I taught him to sing. He connected my voice to the world. I made him tall. All of our personal belongings are intertwined. We say it's exhausting to compete, But we shine for each other. It's still our favourite game. It goes on, this embrace, whether I speak for him or he for me: Love ruled our lives. It rules the mourners, And the winter of longevity.
Art Garfunkel's Poem performed at Paul Simon's 70th Birthday Party, 2011
Asked what Simon's reaction was, he admitted: "I don't know - he was at the other side of the room. I dared not look."
SO much is happening here:
Mystery man Stan Rublowsky, who is never mentioned again
Art getting cornered by the press while changing and then being stuck with them for half of the article
Paul once again mentioning that one time he tried LSD (but leaving out the part where he started hallucinating bugs in the shower)
“Normal looking, except for their hair”
“Rublowsky mentioned that he doubted that Simon owns a suit”
“Carrying the 12-string that he never plays”
“Garfunkel swung his hands around him like an airplane”
Art opening a show with “we’re not much in person”
The Daily Texan, 10/05/67

Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy
Old friends
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears

Stranger to stranger
If we met for the first time, this time
Could you imagine us
Falling in love again?
Still believing that love endures
All the carnage and useless detours
Oh I love you, I love you, I love you…

Q&A with Art Garfunkel 2011
Was it really necessary to stand so closely to one another?
the neurotypical mind couldn’t bare comprehend a classic rock autist’s vision of gender
Art and Paul in Holland, 1966
god forbid 5000 year old girls do anything
rpf is literally art’s friend
