It seems we must keep fighting the same battles over and over again, but such is the real world. 

Republican, President Theodore Roosevelt knew that no group of companies could be allowed to use their ownership of the economic infrastructure to allow them to pick winners and losers in the larger economy.  Yes, those private businesses did deserve credit and reward for building the railroads that brought prosperity to the nation; however, that did not give them the right to use the fact the nation was dependent on their rials to control industries that were dependent on those rails. The existential threat that control posed to democracy itself could not be ignored. 

Teddy Roosevelt acted to stop them and the Supreme Court backed him. For a century the nation as benefited from his actions. Net-Neutrality is nothing more than applying the same good policy to the physical connections of the internet.  It is not new nor radical, but it is absolutely necessary.
