yr so right fr the tgchk/3rdwheel tsuyu thing...,.... 3rdwheel i think underrated dynamic HEARMEOUT. hear me out.
1ly i love me some drama espcially in my freakships.
2ly it can be very funny. recently read a fic where one girl is like "shes talkingshitaboutme. shes sooooooo talkingshitaboutme" and her friend is like "OoooKay" (psychologically revealing)
like yeah you are acting like a weird obsessive freak. ackshually. and its funny and i wuv it. yr friends dont want you to kiss but iiiiiiiii do
freakship exactlyyy i love togachako being completely abnormal abt each other and Tsuyu being caught in the crossfire
AND IK PPL HATE LOVE TRIANGLES but wouldn't it be so funny if Tsuyu did have a little girlcrush on Ochako at first but eventually she mostly got over it + assumed she's straight, only to find herself getting dragged along for thinly veiled dates between her best friend and the girl that tried to kill them 1000 times isn't that so silly
realized i never posted this! my full piece for @bnhavillaintriozine done last year! they’re at a konbini bc that was what i was watching on yt at the time u_u convenience stores around the world..
i knew i wasnt gonna like this fight very much lol shouto barely reacts to the shit that happened to touya and is instead is like "u shouldnt be dragging other ppl into this!!" like?? if i found out literally any of that happened to my siblings (or even just people i know??) i would react very badly and i dont even get along with my siblings!! idk this has like no emotional weight to me for some reason idgi
i've been getting the feeling that bnha is written in a way to primarily impart lessons (*but only on people who are not related to law enforcement). that's why we keep getting bludgeoned over the head with how aoyama is still responsible for endangering his classmates or how dabi still made his own choices to kill unrelated people; while true, the story seems to prioritize making sure those lessons are learned first, while what is perceived as excess sympathy is excised so it never comes across as ""condoning"" the person who did wrong.
which is probably why a lot of these scenes feel like they have no emotional weight. often the only person sympathizing with characters like dabi or aoyama is the reader, and there is no outlet for the reader's feelings because characters aren't allowed to sympathize overmuch with the villains. for us there's no emotional payoff because we'll read something like dabi's backstory, but the reveal just gets followed up with a lecture, which is obviously... not emotionally impactful at all. the scenes don't read like a moving or memorable moment so much as the heroes engaging in debate class.
The issue with overhaul is what he did to Eri. No amount of sob story fixes that
Of course nothing fixes what he did, but nothing will fix what any of the villains do. Yet, Shigaraki, Toga and Dabi are seemingly being set up to be saved, and the manga going toward a 'everyone deserves to be saved' message. If that's the case Overhaul should be saved too, and it's kind of bizarre that Hori ignored him, despite him being a really good first candidate for a villain being saved.
And sure, what he did to Eri was unforgivable, and she is under no obligation to forgive him, neither is Izuku, but at this point it's almost cruel to not help him. Unlike Shigaraki and Pals, Overhaul is defenseless. He is a danger to no one, and can barely function. He is a broken man, who just wants to fix his dad.
There are logical reasons why Izuku or any of the Heroes continue to have giant, violent fights with the LoV, particularly Shigaraki. I can't fault Star for trying to kill Shigaraki, or not trying to reach out to a person who has not just leveled a country and is trying to rule the world, but is also actively trying (and succeeded) to kill her and steal her power. Despite what the stories themes are, I don't think it reflects badly on someone to defend not just themselves but billions of people from a really terrible fate.
But that's not the situation with Overhaul. Yes, he hurt Eri, but he's not doing it now, and physically and mentally can't harm anyone. Continuing to deny him basic human decency and lock him back up in prison is kind of terrible. I mean, I was floored that Izuku didn't even seem shocked by Overhaul's state. This is the guy who turned himself into a huge ass monster to kill him, and now he can barely hold a conversation because he's been so fucked up.
I just don't understand how Izuku can see a small child in Shigaraki, who is actively trying to kill him and everyone he loves and decide to save him, but not look at a disabled man that is mentally not all there anymore and not feel anything. If the point of this manga is that villains are people, and that Heroes save everyone, regardless of what they've done, Overhaul should not only count, he should be a wake up call for Izuku.
And it's not like he hasn't forgiven abusers before. I mean he defended Enji's right to change and be a better person to Dabi--the kid Enji neglected until he set himself on fire. How is Overhaul somehow not deserving of the same chance?
If Shigaraki and Co. get to be happy after all the horrible things they've done, why is Overhaul excluded? Especially when he has a similarly tragic past and a super tragic present?
Sob stories can't be a factor when it comes to someone actively trying to hurt you or someone else, but that's no longer the case with Overhaul. Helping him and treating him with basic human dignity is just the right thing to do. Letting him suffer doesn't fix what he did to Eri anymore then treating him humanly does.
I'm not saying Izuku should be his best friend, all I want is for him to see Overhaul's humanity like he did Shigaraki's--because saying everyone deserves to be saved is a far better message then saying only a select few deserve to be saved.
but with the recent reveal about Tenko's quirk and having spent some time dwelling on the details of Touya's death there are more and more things not making sense in the context we were given.
Touya died in a fire on Sekoto peak after having a breakdown which lead to him losing control of his fire. This happened notably on a day when Enji was at home, having a day off from work.
Then Touya's burned body was taken away by All For One, who had broken off a fragment of his jawbone and planted it as evidence of his death.
As neglectful as Enji may have been as a father, he was still a hero. I have no doubt he got to the mountain as soon as he realized there is a fire. The Todoroki mansion was also located close to the Sekoto peak, as both Enji and Touya used to go there regularly to train. Are we really supposed to believe AFO just so happened to come across the fire started by Touya, manually break off his jawbone, leave it there and get away from the mountain with his body faster than it took for Endeavour to come there? Enji is the one living there, not All For One. Touya's breakdown is not something that can be predicted by the other party, unless they are keeping close contact with the Todoroki family. Ujiko directly confirms they were indeed aware of the private matters happening in the Todoroki house, which lead to AFO taking interest in Touya.
Those kids were our spares, in case anything happened to Tomura Shigaraki.
What did happen to Tomura Shigaraki, when he still was Tenko Shimura?
AFO sought him out when he was still a baby, and immediately took away his quirk factor. He was meeting with his father privately and encouraged his behaviour towards his son. He even contacted Tenko's friends. When Tenko was 5 years old, AFO personally passed the Decay quirk to him in another meeting.
AFO was a fucking control freak, manipulating Tenko's life to unbelievable degree. Everything that happened to Tenko was a doing of All For One, pretty much. And once he had hold on him, he kept him in complete control and isolation for most of his life.
Is it really so far fetched to believe that Touya's death on Sekoto was also AFO's doing?
We already have the confirmation Touya was one of Shigaraki's possible replacements and AFO toon specific interest in his quirk, before giving up on it.
We also know the only reason they let Touya go was because his body was so messed up Garaki prognosed his life expectancy after leaving the facility to be a month tops.
Another point that stands out is Touya's ice quirk awakening. The evolution of quirks explanation is handwavey at best. But if the condition for Touya was a near-death experience, then wouldn't a 13 years old boy who was used to dealing with minor burns and didn't want to burn to death fulfill those conditions better than a 24 years old man who was dealing with extreme burns on the regular and actively wanted to die?
Anyway, All For One is the one who started that fire on Sekoto, not Touya. In this essay I will-
