Talking to your Villain: Deku vs. Shigaraki and Ochako vs. Toga
Questionable method but I typed up all the dialogue spoken out loud in each encounter, from the moment things really start picking up steam to the moment the Villain's heart gets saved. The Heroes are trying to get through to the Villain - how much effort do they put into trying to have a dialogue?
Green is Hero Speaking; Red is Villain Speaking.
Need you note that Deku's 4 lines of green - the longest line he speaks - in the middle of his battle is actually not directed at Shigaraki. He's talking to Nana about smashing Shigaraki's lid. But maybe Shigaraki heard him, idk.
I also took out Tsuyu's speech to Toga. That was a good chunk of 'Hero trying to talk to Villain', and also just a good attempt too from Tsuyu, but we're focusing Ochako and Toga.
Spring themed Dabi! Because Spring is all about New Life and Rebirth, right? đ I guess this is a little bit to spite chapter 350. If the only thing keeping Dabi alive is his grudge, doesnât that mean if he gives up on his revenge (or, âis savedâ), then heâd just dieâŚ? :/ My fav parts of the drawing are the socks, the crystals and the little glass with the sapling. xDÂ
something something the primacy of the nuclear family and the nuclear family as the site of discipline/ responsibility/ duty/ redemption leading to this kind of dialogue imo
maybe i'll elaborate more but i think it ties into a lot of other parts of the series i still have to think through, like it's shown with toga's family, twice being viewed as an acceptable character sacrifice because of his lack of blood or emotional ties to any heroes, the narrative's unwillingness to explore the LOV as found family and instead turning around to the biological/nuclear family as the solution (especially for dabi and tomura).
given that a satisfactory ending is 100 miles in the rear view here's how I think the ending of my hero should go
half of the League is dead so go ahead and kill of the rest of them, Bakugou kills TomuAfO and Enji kills his son, etc cause fuck victims of abuse
then enji should hit the victory pose and gather the heroes on the bombed out desolate field of victory I want tears in eyes as they talk about the horrible toll the villains took on them but they prevailed and police brutality is fine if its justified
suddenly a blinding light, a meteor takes them all out, Deku jolts up in bed, its his first day at UA, huh eating hair gives you weird dreams
heyyyy i know weâre all annoyed about mva but can people stop blaming the japanese fandom for it bc they supposedly dont like the villains?? its getting racist. japanese people are not a monolith. please stop acting like theyâre a hivemind who all hate villains when we know the western fandom also hates villains. iâm seeing shit like âfuck the japaneseâ and my guy do you not realize what you sound like? just stop. be annoyed at the studio all you want but stop blaming japan as a whole.
sometimes i think of endeavor kneeling at touyaâs altar, wishing that touya was still there. the dead cannot speak. you can conveniently make up your own story to suit them, imagine that the deceased son you cast aside would surely want nothing more than to be with family again. it brings me some fierce joy that dabiâs return denies that feel-good narrative, denies the desires projected onto his memory, that dabi can name the truth of why he vanished, that he can say for certain it was endeavor himself that drove him from the family and killed him in all but body. heâs no longer the child with no autonomy, no longer the dead without voice, heâs seizing the narrative and flipping it on its head and it is a euphoric moment.
cannot stress enough how bad yâall need $3 yellow dish gloves. if ur avoidant about dishes bc you donât wanna touch wet food or get ur hands wet or dry them out with cleaner like. these will solve all ur problems. only downside is if you have long acrylic nails youâll need a stronger pair for like $15 so your nails donât tear em but the function remains the same. u donât HAVE to touch the old wet food in the drain. we have technology
Youâre right. Horikoshi does a disservice by framing abuse through the abuserâs perspective. Whatâs even more irksome is that he glorifies Endeavorâs minimal efforts to atone while downplaying the victimsâ own efforts to heal. I mean, no one in-universe is making a big deal out of Rei potentially getting better enough to be discharged after 10 years in the hospital?
he glorifies Endeavorâs minimal efforts to atone
yeh, this this thiiiis. the past chapter was all about how big of a realization it was for the dude to just. fucking leave his family alone. i know it probably is a huge realization for a self-centered ex-abuser, but so many readers have all been saying it was necessary as like a basic first step; so why make it a Big Deal by writing it from his perspective, rather than from the perspective of anyone else so they can have a âwow so itâs finally clicking for him, huh?? huh????â moment. thatâs all it takes to flip the narrative from being about how Tragic the dudeâs decision is, to making it about how heâs taking his first baby steps!! to being a decent person.
on ur point about the victims, thatâs another big issue i have!!! likeâŚwhere did all the trauma go sdfkljsfkljg. where are the lasting consequences of growing up with an abusive or neglectful parent? why is everyone just okay, and the biggest hurdle to overcome is their willingness or unwillingness to forgive? i hate that the story is going âwell all he has to do is make up for things sufficiently and then they can maybe be a happy family!!â like, where is the ptsd and the complexes you develop from being unloved by a parent?? why canât we see the lasting effects that domestic violence had on rei, rather than just being told?? why not show us the work the victims put in to get to a mentally stable place?? i mean, the answer is obvious, but i hate it lmfao.
