it’s very cute natsuo and touya shared a room. clearly they had so much space, and money, it’s pretty much a decision that they really wanted to share. They sleep side by side with their futons, and the picture with Touya at his computer desk showed another computer desk littered with toys younger children would play with, like a mech, so I’m guessing that’s Natsuo’s. It’s just very cute.
Something I also want to point out - Touya has books on his desk. Likely because he’s in middle school and probably studying to get into a good high school. But also given we’ve been privy to the fact he does in fact write randomly poetic stuff (the whole ‘his light invites darkness’ thing) and Smash telling us he writes in a refined way and signs his name like an artist, it also shows us:
notice it’s Touya who has a lamp on his side of their futons? I’m sure this is showing us that Touya also likes reading before bed. Of the two brothers, at least when Natsuo was that young, Touya is probably very bookish. Just an interesting characterization.
rei todoroki is such a difficult character to talk about because I think people have legitimate reasons to be…some level of uncomfortable with her, but at the same time most people who bring that up don’t do so with anywhere near enough nuance or empathy for a woman with an abusive husband, and lots of them outright victim blame her (as I posted about before, people straight up blame her for being raped) and don’t see the way horikoshi is treating her lately as a problem.
watching the responses to her these last few chapters…………the misogyny and people’s inability to care about a battered woman made my stomach churn. people have become so quick to jump on her before questioning the writing at all.
I wish she was written with more care and actual thoughtful, complex characterization–I think her relationship with shouto sorely needs to have actual work put into writing it because what she did to him was pretty awful and traumatizing even if there were obviously extenuating circumstances. shouto doesn’t blame her, but with ten years of distance between them after the incident to stew in their feelings and suffer alone there’s a lot to explore when they reunite. and I think healing from trauma your mother caused because of your mutual abuser is much more worth exploring than putting all kinds of screentime into forcing him to build a better relationship with his dad, but a lot of what seems like obvious baggage he carries from his relationship with his mother has never been unpacked.
same goes for her relationship with touya. I’d be interested in exploring his anger towards her more but we’re probably not going to get that, because these days she’s only relevant when she can be used to make endeavor look better (and before that as an accessory to shouto’s character). the way touya reacted to both his parents was very different despite resentment that built towards both(desire to please endeavor mixed with resentment over being tossed aside vs. what seems like complete dismissal of his mother), and I think that’s worth looking at. also I think, with what you can extrapolate from her relationship with her parents and then the way endeavor abused her, her inability to help touya is partially learned helplessness(on top of the fact that…there’s only so much she could do when she was being abused the way she was).
AND I get that they’re not major characters the way shouto and now touya are but it’d be nice to get more on what natsuo and fuyumi think of her, too, especially since they’re the only ones who visited her for ten whole years! they saw a stage of her life everyone else missed entirely, have maintained a closeness with her no one else has.
It’s interesting that Hk chose a women to directly criticize the heroes’ attempts at easing the public.
Despite having multiple men in the audience, Hk uses a female reporter to question Endeavor’s atonement and integrity. She brings up valid concerns, but she’s portrayed as emotional and almost irrational, which is in contrast not only to the heroes, but also her male colleagues (who are shown behind her, obviously uneasy with her outburst).
Once again, although the men in the story are primarily at fault for the current disaster, Hk created a woman to represent the sector that are working against heroes and their attempt to save society. This wouldn’t be an issue if it was an isolated event, but it’s disappointing considering Horikoshi’s tendency to use women to portray toxic and regressive mindsets while refusing to give his female characters actual development.
The trifecta of “this looks sick as fuck, but I’m a little worried about you, sweetie”
For the longest time, I always wondered why Shouto's left side was his fire side and why his right side was his ice side specifically. Dunno why, I just did. But when I was washing my hands the other day I thought, Wait....... Is the order of his Half Cold Half Hot supposed to correspond to the temperature on a fucking sink??!??! Cuz the left handle on a sink faucet is the hot water and the right handle is the cold water??!?!??!! I have no idea if that's actually what his design is referencing, but if it is, then it's fucking hysterical.
Ch 226 - the Toga family’s response to Himiko
Ch 302 - the Todoroki family’s response to Touya/Dabi
Filing this one under parallels that are painful to think about too long.
I’m wondering if the current storyline with Dabi will or could affect Toga by reminding her of her own family.
Essentially what happened to her seems like (for now) what’s going to play out with Touya. Dabi will be demonized in an attempt to take the heat off Endeavor / the heroes – that’s what I’m guessing, what with Best Jeanist saying he would help Endeavor prepare a response to Dabi’s accusations – and his family will publicly denounce his actions while taking responsibility.
Plus, the Top 3 heroes have already decided to go after Touya, exactly like heroes came after Toga – a sixteen-year-old child – after the attack on her classmate. It is sad turn of events, and these two deserve better, but I would be consoled if at the very least, they got to bond over their shared experiences or team up to fight the Top 3.
As I’m sure some may have noticed, Endeavor’s got his arc going on, where after finally realizing how horrible he is and tries to become a better person. But a problem I & many others tend to have resulting from this arc is that lots of folks talk about how Endeavor’s ‘different now’, how he’s changing, and how that makes him so much better than Thief Takami or, of course, Dabi (ugh); and as a result I think it’s important we to address is how…Bojack Horseman-y his attempts at changing have really been up until now. Think of it as in honor of Rei calling him out and hopefully forcing real progress out of him in the future, we’re going over his lack of progress so far.
So, let’s look through all his most notable attempts at changing in comparison to what he was doing before that he’s making up for, as well as anything else he’s done that might reflect in some fashion on his redemption:
-We can start with Rei; the woman who he bought, sexually abused for about a decade, psychically abused for 5 more years than that, and then had locked up in a hospital for another 10 years and which she has only just left. He tried to make up for that by having her favorite flowers delivered to her room in the hospital he had her sent to. This is about the average of what we can expect going forward, btw.
-Then there’s Fuyumi & Natsuo, who he deemed failures and neglected so much throughout their childhoods that he appears like a stranger to them, who they know more by the damage he’s done than any actual interactions. To make up for all that, he bought them a house to live away from him and not interact with him anymore, along with their mother when she leaves the hospital. (Not Shoto though, he still interreacts with Endeavor.) This is, unironically, the biggest and most selfless act of atonement he has committed thus far. All down hill from here!

BNHA Inktober, day 19: Vacation
Shigaraki: I will respect the wishes of my comrades
Toga: I wanna a beach vacation
Shigaraki: What?
Toga: Beach vacation.
Twice: Beach day!
Dabi: ….
I love them.
i still think touya and fuyumi should have been twins or the reason fuyumi being born so close to touya was because he was born sickly or something
horikoshi killing off magne was actually his way of validating her gender identity by treating her like he does every other woman in the series <3
I was re reading chapter 249 again for reference and I never noticed this before and it made my heart ache.
Idk if it's the translation but Fuyumi almost sounds callous. Dismissive. This is about their dead brother and she talks about it as if it was a short-term problem that the family encountered and they, esp the mom, excluding Natsu, "got over"
i just copy-pasted my message. Dumping my thoughts rn.
Ok! So I’ve been playing Ultra Rumble a lot. Like, A LOT. And I mainly main Dabi because I like his alpha skill and laying fire traps everywhere. But what my brain keeps on focusing on is how Dabi was probably a B-student/average kid in school.
Let me explain!
In the game you get rankings based on how you play. D being the worst and A+ the best. And Dabi’s comment are “I was so close to achieving greatness” (im paraphrasing) in C rank and “The expected outcome” for B. And for A he’ll go “you talking about me? I’m not mad.”
He takes being an average student so calmly and even expects it. He doesn’t mind it either. Yet when he gets noticed, he’s happy. Just…ughhhhh makes my brain rot start reaching because it makes it sound like THIS DUDE REALLY PUT ALL HIS EGGS INTO THE HEROICS BASKET AND THAT BASKET BROKE.
In pinterest I found a photo with kids sailor dresses and thought about Todoroki children.
this is actually like redraw of my old fanart from 2021, when I had just started watching the anime (haven't read the manga) when I drew them. So I didn't know their age gap, that touya in this age allready had white hair and of course didn't know about their height difference
this is kinda messy fanart, i just wanted picture tenko looking at his grandmother with the same hairstyle, but what happened, happened.
