Very occasionally, this fandom impresses me
in case you were wondering as of november 10 you have to go to page 54 of the supernatural tag on ao3 until you see fics that were published before november 5
I’m the original question asker, but I couldn’t find a way to tag joyousgard in a comment so I’m reblogging from them to say thank you. This answer is so encouraging, thank you so much for writing this out. I’m super excited to dive deeper into Arthuriana now :D
Hi! I’m a teen, and I’m really interested in Arthuriana, but I’m not in a position to take college courses on it or anything at the moment (hoping to in the future tho!!!). I’m trying to read and annotate SGatGK, but I have a host of executive dysfunction problems (and starting college) that make it difficult. My question is, how do I make sure I don’t seem like I’m pretending to know more than I am when I tell people about it (I just get so excited!!)? And at what point can I say I know a lot about it (this one is just to motivate me to finish the book lmao) ? Anyway, thank you for reading this :) your master list of the texts is very useful :)))
Firstly, I’m so glad my list had been helpful!
Secondly, PLEASE do not worry about this. You don’t have to pass a test or read a certain number of texts to be able to tell people about a cool thing you are excited about!! Arthuriana is so vast, no one can know anything. Theres so much I don’t know and tons of texts I haven’t read yet, which is awesome I think! Theres so much out there!
As far as being a self proclaimed “arthuriana knowing about-er” goes, like, youre reading medieval literature for fun. you are already beyond general knowledge of arthuriana!
Also, you dont have to read tons of texts to enjoy arthuriana or engage with it! You dont have to read quickly, read untranslated, etc if that isnt what is fun/doable for you. I read a lot but i also really struggle motivating myself to read when im doing it because i feel like i *should*, not because i enjoy it and am interested. so go at your own pace!!
Happy tumblr day
just had to take a fucking second and close my eyes because i remembered that on the night of november 5th tumblr had convinced me, an outsider, that this was an actual gif of Castiel Supernatural being sent to mega fruit hell
Okay folks, just want to remind you: The GOP is going to crank up the toxin over the next hundred days, because it doesn't know how to do anything else. This is going to cause a lot of people who were going to vote for them to stop and go "Whoah."
This is not the time to say I told you so. This is not the time to throw the past in their faces. Allow them to become better people.
Gonna post this thing from comments because it’s too beautiful 😭🙏🏻
i'm a reform jew and i'm more religious now than i've ever been. I never grew up marking Tisha B'Av and probably didn't even know what it was. I can't remember if I fasted last year or not, but I'm going to fast this year. I am also going to refrain from cannabis for the day which I usually struggle with but I think if I'm doing it for am yisrael and hashem i will be able to.
No I think God stays in heaven to be smug & comfortable & to avoid thinking about the enormous list of screwups & responsibilities they left behind on this hell of a minecraft server, next question
jewish culture is constantly having the v'ahavta stuck in your head

Nona the Ninth is one of my favorite books of all time. Not just because it's Locked Tomb, but it is the purest form of one of the big messages the series is trying to divulge.
The price of love is grief. We will never be free of it as long as we love anything at all. Our family, friends, our pets, even beloved media. Anything that connects that deeply to us that we love it will leave a gaping hole when it's gone.
But no one rejects loving to avoid grief. Every one of the characters holds on desperately to something they love, to levels that seem unhealthy to us. They want the perks without the cost.
John is holding on to a world and people that died 10k years ago.
The lyctors cling desperately to their cavaliers memories, to the point of being willing to end the 9 houses to honor them.
Cam held on to Pal, Pal held on to Dulcie. Harrow held on to Gideon so hard she disappeared her from her memory to avoid the grief she would pay for the privelege of caring for her.
But Nona loves indiscriminately. She loves the polluted sky, she loves the sad people, she loves the stray dogs and her friends and her teachers and Varun. She loves Pyrrhas lying ass, she loves Camilla and Palemedes, she loves crown and even cares about Judith. Nona isn't afraid of grief, because to her all that love balances it out. Nona is the only one in the end willing to pay the price for that 6 months of unconditional love. She knows from the beginning of the book that her own days are numbered, but she doesn't shy from it and avoid loving.
She loves all that much harder.
"If you could see your whole life, start to finish, would you change anything?" The movie Arrival (2016) approaches this same theme. If you knew what you'd lose, would you go back to avoid it? Would you keep away from the people and things you knew you'd lose? Would you shy away from experiencing love just because it hurts?
"Love and Freedom don't coexist, warden."
The I Claudius fandom has like a total of three people, without counting me, and I love imagining what it would look like if suddenly this old book/series would get the popularity of GOT/HOTD or something like that.
So here are my theories:
Tiberius would have a fanbase and would be considered a “poor little meow meow”
People would make girlboss fancams for Livia
Messalina apologists
Herod would be the fandom bicycle
Herod/Castor would be one of the top 10 ships on AO3
Herod/Claudius would also be up there on the top 10 ships.
Some people would also ship Agripina/Tiberius and they would be deemed as problematic
Agripina/Germanicus Girlboss/Malewife
Edits of Antonia and her children to “I bet on losing dogs” and other Mitski songs
Fan casts for all book characters that didn't make it to the show.
YouTube compilations of “Caligula being a mood”, “Caligula being Caligula”, “Caligula being a menace”, etc.
