I found a flint and iron, neatly bound together with a piece of thin rope, a small whetstone and some dried flesh in the pockets of that guy. His bow looked fine too, and it also was stronger than mine, so I took it. Arrows included naturally. I hadn't looked what Lord half'n'half had with him yet, but that guy definitely seemed to be the better prepared, and probably more skilled, hunter of the two.
Naturally there was blood on all of his stuff. Have to wash that off later, at least as good as possible.
But more importantly... I turned my attention towards the horse again.
I cut out a few chunks of meat and inspected them closely. Doesn't look foul... doesn't smell foul... nothing moving inside... Guess it's all good then
I went a bit away from the site. Altho I was eating chunks from that horse, and I guess it wasn't hard to see that someone had cut chunks out of that horse, I didn't really want to be seen there.
I made a fire and roasted the meat on it.
Ok, lesson learned, no more drowsy excuses for not sleeping up in a tree. That there could have ended seriously badly... or it would have if...
Hey! You awake? Why'd you get me out of that mess?

I checked out my hand, it had healed already since yesterday. Only a small scar was left of the wound. I cautiously got up, stood on one knee and checked the leg the hound bit into. Lord Raspberry-head continued shouting, stomping and wildly waving his hands through the air so he didn't seem to care much about it.
Those are quite deep, and thorn up too... if that damn hound hadn't... fuck! This will take some time, even with ITs help.
All of sudden I heard the unsheathing of a sword through the shouting. I was half-prepared for this so I wanted to jump back, out of his reach. But my left leg didn't like that idea, it stung like hell. Thanks to hands and the other leg I got up and a bit backwards, but from there on it was more stumbling than jumping.
Before I could get out of his reach, I hit the tree whose roots I fell over.
Fuck!... at least it stopped me from falling
He forcefully swung his sword over his head and at me. He was wide open, this man was either no good swordsman, or his rage had consumed him completely. Lucky for me he didn't quite think about the tree and chopped into it before he could hit me.
Before he could swing another time I jumped to the side, trying to put near to all force on my right leg. Both while jumping and while landing again. Jumping kinda worked, it wasn't like I felt nothing, but far less than at my first jump.
Landing didn't work quite as well. I managed to land on my right foot, without the left even touching ground. But I lost my balance and had to cross-step to stop my body, meaning I had to put all my weight on the left leg.
“AHHHHHH!!!!”
It was stinging even more than the first time. I could feel how more blood was running out of the wound instantly.

Tsar Bomba
I went through everything once more in my mind. I was forced to go through it all over agin. The smell of smoke and burning flesh. The screams of anguish. The guy who kicked in our front door. The voice and the laugther of the madman who set mother ablaze...
Every. Single. Detail.

I woke up just after sunrise. Birds were chirping all around, the sun was behind me and I had some breakfast with me. I had left over some smaller pieces of the horse meat from my last meal. And even tho cold, they were still tasty.
Getting down from the tree was, just like getting up, not very difficult. I took a look around, to see if anyone or anything was nearby. Nothing.
“Lets see... plan for today... drench thirst, wash blood of my... the stuff I found... hmm... lets see how long that takes. After that maybe try to find my bow and arrows again. Sun will surely be down by that time.”
So I set out to follow that plan.
Went to the nearby beck and drank some water. As I wanted to begin washing of the blood from the stuff I found, I realized that I had no idea how to go about it. The water was shallow, the current was weak, so I decided to just put everything in the water. Except my pants. Then I ripped a piece of cloth out of my pants and used that for cleaning the stuff.
Getting the blood off the Flint & Iron was easy enough. Cleaning it off the whetstone wasn't difficult either. After that I cleaned the knife and the arrow quiver. Cleaning the bow was more difficult. The crust of dried blood came of easily enough, but below that some blood had drawn into the wood. It seemed like my scrubbing had no effect, no matter how long I tried to.
“Guess I'll have to hide that somehow... maybe with more blood on the bow”

In lonely admiration
I waited there. Exactly at the same spot. All day long. Hoping someone would come to end this.
No one came.
I'll probably have to wait till some "brave hero" comes by who is daring enough to kill me. I began to wander around the forest. I moved surprisingly fast. Might come from this... form. I'll have to get used to it -- for now.
My "walk" probably took hours. It was already getting bright again as I found a cave. Carefully I took a look into it. No one here I went inside. The cave was large, larger than it looked from the outside. And before I knew it, that cave became my new... place to stay.

I slowly woke up in a warm bed, a rather slender arm lying on me. It took me a moment to realize this wasn't a dream, would've been the only good one I had for as long as I can remember. Not fully awake I stared at the ceiling for some time, my thoughts so far away I didn't have any.
Still lying down, I looked around a bit. I was in some house. There was a table with two chairs, a bow and some arrows near a door, another door, a fireplace, still some faint glowing embers in it. On the floor where some clothes, they seemed familiar.
Then this thought slowly came up from somewhere. This arm on my chest, this wasn't mine. Mine was touching some soft skin. I looked to the other side of me and fell out of the bed in fright, landing on the hard, wooden floor. Ouch.
From the jerk Ingrid woke up too, sitting up and grasping the blanket to cover herself.
“I did this for you!” She roared immediately
“Thanks... I guess”
“I heard some loud sound outside last night, turned out it was you. Fell asleep beside my door and fell over. You were ice cold. Pale skin, blue lips & all.”
“Ok... but wouldn't just lighting a fire... been enough?”
“I didn't want it to be my fault you froze to death, so I wanted to make sure. But don't you tell anyone about this! This was a one time occasion! Understood?”
“Sure, stays between me and you.”
“And... I am sorry for yesterday, shouldn't have shouted at you because of this old bastard. I'll let you stay, as long as you're a help on the hunt. Else I'll kick you out. Got it!?”
“No worries, forgiven, understood & accepted. But one question-”
“Your clothes? They're by the fireplace”
I looked down at myself and reddend again.
“...n... no... but thanks...”
I paused shortly, trying to get somehow comfortable with the situation of being around her naked, again.
“How... how did you get me in here?”
She laughed “Easy, I'm a hunter, I'm used to carrying full grown deer to this place. I admit you are a bit heavier, but I didn't need to carry you very far.”

Helos
He opened the door. I walked in behind him.
'Martin, where 'ave ya been?'
'Met th' wee un on th' way'
'Wee wahn?'
I came forth from behind Martin. I saw in her eyes that she was exactly like him, only wanted to protect the people dear to her. And it seemed like I just became one of those people.
'Wot 'appened ter ya lil' wahn?' She came down and hugged me tightly. I didn't resist, it felt like paradise. I wanted that moment never to end. This warm, sincere hug. Like the one from a worried mother.
Then, still hugging me, she looked at Martin. 'Ya think...'

Whispers
I never saw that huntsman again. My life continued as it had before. The first few days after the incident in town Ruth & Martin kept a close eye on me. They noticed that they didn't need to expect any danger from me so they left their guard slack again.
But whenever I went to town I could feel the eyes of the people on me. Even after I started to work for the smith. I mostly helped Martin & Ruth but whenever I had time I went to the smith.
At first he only sent me to fill up water buckets, get ore or to stoke the fire. Although he noticed how fascinated I watched him hammer ore into shape, he waited till the end of winter before he began to teach me how.

The first half of the deer didn’t last for long. But it sated my appetite, so I took the other half with me.
How long until raw flesh gets foul? I wish I knew. I should eat it by tomorrow ‘round this time, just to make sure it doesn’t get tainted.
After I was back to my cave and had ‘stored’ the remaining half of the deer a question came up.
So… what now? I figured out I can only see moving things, everything else is blurry and reddish. I am able to hunt, apparently I got amazingly sharp claws. Only question is; What to do with this new won free time? Hunting for fun is a waste and only gives me unnecessary attention – What do dragons do in their caves? I guess they sleep in their piles of gold, until some brave hero comes who ends up eaten alive. But I am no dragon, at least I don’t look lik…
Then it struck me, What do I actually look like in this form? I went out again, in search of water. It didn’t take too long till I found some.
I gradually moved my head over the water. To not scare myself too much.

I ran and tried thinking of something.
Come on. I need ideas... ideas... IDEAS!!! come on, right now!! what can I do... what can I do... wait... what can I do, that a deer can't... ok, now we're getting somewhere at least... lets see... I can... climb... … … … damn it! There must be something more... if it'd be just the hound it may be worth a try, but with that rider behind me...

Suddenly I hit something with my foot, and I wasn't moving only straight forward anymore, I was... moving towards the ground too.
In that blink of an eye lots of things happened.
First I saw the ground in front of my head, less than an arms length away, I was falling.
Then I realized that I must had stumbled over something, as I slowly looked behind I saw what too. A giant root protruding from the ground
I looked a bit further behind me and saw the hound, already preparing to jump over the root, and the rider only a few steps behind the hound.

Note from the Author
Hey Sorry for the 'long' (I know, it was just a week) break from my side, was sick and in no condition to write anything. Anyway, I'm back to 'normal' and there'll be posts. Double as usual... But only for this week :D
Thanks for reading and thanks for the feedback so far ;)
PS: Ok, it was more than a week, just realized it's Wednesday already :D
Temple of Light
While being there, in that cave, doing nothing, I gradually got hungry. And I thought about it for a long while.
Should I find something to eat? Or should I just let hunger end this? NO-- I won't give up. If I don't get to be Bjorn anymore, I'll be the monster of this forest. May the brave come and test their skill on me.
I went outside my cave, to look for something eadible. It wasn't easy to find anything with this sight. Suddenly I noticed another gleaming thing. So they've already come for me? I screeched, to scare them.
The gleaming vanished for a moment. Then it was there again, moving into the distance. But it didn't look like a human, it didn't even move like one. It was much faster and it made quick, long jumps instead of running.
Was that-- a deer? Does that mean these gleaming things... I looked around. It didn't take long to find another. It moved similar to the deer, but it was much smaller. This gleaming, it's movement. So I can only see moving things clearly.

I'm a guy from Norway, 96 model. But enough about me, on this blog you'll mostly find stuff about Bjorn. Maybe I'll add a few short stories of other characters too after a while but for now it's Bjorn.
