Headcanon's time

Nya is a bad cook.

After joining the ninja team, she did not really want to open up, so she tried to fit into some girly stereotypes.

Wear dresses more often, apply cosmetics and perfume.

Be careful and restrained.

Nya thought that if she showed her real self, she would be judged or even ridiculed for such behavior, so when it was her turn to cook, Kai always came to her aid.

Spending time with Zane helped him break bad cooking habits and improve his skill. ("Kai, don't be afraid to spend food, we always have money to buy another cabbage", "You cook well, but add more salt and bay leaves for fragrance. )

And every time at dinner, the ninja and Sensei would eat delicious food prepared by "Nya" while mistakes in the amount of seasoning, overcooked salmon, and simply awful tea made by "Kai".

Even though her brother didn't care about the comments about "his" mistakes, if Nya was so comfortable, she herself felt guilty and ashamed.

For several nights she tried to learn how to cook, injuring her fingers and cooking utensils, but the result was only bitter bread, undercooked chicken, and tears of disappointment.

Kai then helped her clean up, hugged and reassured her, because "What difference does it make whether you know how to cook or not, you are my sister and I will accept any of you. Even if you accidentally send someone."

This little support eventually made Nya tell the truth to the team, and despite her fears, they accepted it.

Even supported.

Cole: You know, I'm not good at cooking either. Why are soups so complicated?!

Sensei Wu: Tea is not as easy as it seems at first glance.

Jay: Even if you're a bad cook, don't worry, I like you even like this. UAGH.. Well, I mean, I like you and...EM. NO, I MEAN THAT-

As a result, Nya didn't cook anymore, everyone quietly ate Kai's delicious food, and Jay then got a spoon in the nose after "Kai, why is the salmon overcooked again."

Zane: The salmon is actually cooked just fine.

also short people are so UNPREDICTABLE because they can be hell itself or literally become cats and cuddle with you i would know i am short i have experience

Grief: Kai and Jay

I chose to focus on those two because of one sole reason: the IMMENSE contrast between the ways Jay and Kai handle grief. Complete opposites.

before i Start i wanna say I don’t have anything against jay, I love him too guys

Jay, time and time again, shows self centeredness in times of grief (again, not saying it’s his fault that’s just how he copes) He leads himself to believe that only he ever loved this person, and that no on else feels the same way. jay is also very expressive- he cries, he mourns, he is verbal throughout his grief. for example, he talks to water in order to feel some grasp of nya close to him- it shows how expressive he his with his longing for her. furthermore, two more examples:

the widely known one: Kai and Jays fight. JAY is the one who suggested they shouldn’t be a team anymore, he is the one who started the fight, and he’s the one who said no one loved/missed nya BUT him.

now, one might say

“But Kai was inconsiderate! He knocked down Jay’s water glass!”

lemme tell you buddy. jay shouldn’t be talking to water glasses in the FIRST place. secondly, this was kai’s way of showing concern, and allow me to remind you that kai still bothered to show concern for jay, when even before the fight jay was saying things like “only I miss nya” “I love her” “we are nothing without her”

secondly, did u guys notice the immense regret and sadness when kai knocked his glass over?

LOOK AT KAI’S EXPRESSION. he is DEVASTATED. he didn’t MEAN to. and on top of that, he is closing his eyes. if you’re a total kai observer, like I am, you’ve noticed that he looks away or dissociates if situations are too emotionally overbearing for him (nyas death, both times, when chen tells him about the fact that his parents might be evil and left them on purpose, etc etc). kai even said sorry, in a heartbreaking tone. he UNDOUBTEDLY would have apologized more profusely if jay didn’t attack immediately.

the other example is Season four, episode two. The ninja were in chens place discussing Zane’s death. jay says “I moved on. I feel guilt. These are not good feelings!” again, kai feels like he is being indirectly attacked, due to jay subtly suggesting that only he feels guilt. kai then says, “You think you feel bad? Imagine how I feel!”

and you might think oh but Kai is being self centered now. no. He’s not. Because remember what Lloyd told him before? Lloyd said Kai was selfish, for wanting to die instead of Zane. Kai felt suppressed and used jays words as a chance in desperation to vocalize some of his pain because he had no other chance to. And every time kai stated ANYTHING related to Grief, it’s automatically considered selfish whereas when jay does it it’s totally fine. kai’s feelings are ALWAYS being dismissed.

Kai handles grief destructively. He drinks, blames himself, mentally tortures himself. He literally has never cried in front of the others and silences his grief because he is criticized for it, especially by jay. It’s not that he isn’t vocal, it’s the fact that he CANT be. He’s SCARED to be.

both were in immense pain, but, and I literally don’t even know how many times I’ve said this, but the show needs to properly address this problem. kai being portrayed as selfish during grief is UNFAIR, and does not make sense AT ALL, when everything he says or does contrasts ‘selfishness’.

warning spoilers ahead ( kinda)

we love ninjago. and I’m posting bc this needs to be brought to attention: NINJAGO, WE NEED MORE SIBLING CONTENT. romance? it’s good, I SWEAR I don’t have ANYTHING against jaya. but sibling relationships? Kai and nya? we need more.

hear me out: so many people are saying our poor traumatized green ninja that we all know and love is going to turn evil and lose it. valid theory, and quite understandable, and would make the remaining of season 16 quite interesting.I would LOVE another morro- like season, with Kai doing anything and everything he possibly can to bring back his little brother. If that happens, I want a scene. A scene where Kai is upset and nya comforts him, asks him what’s wrong. kai being kai blames himself for Lloyd turning evil, and suffocating himself in self hatred. Telling her it’s happening all over again ( like how he lost nya before, etc) I want kai to get UPSET and tell her he is sick of losing people, not being able to protect them. I want nya to comfort him like he always comforted her.

And if the whole lloyd-turns-evil thing never happens, then I STILL just want an episode ( another time twin-like season would be awesome tbh) just dedicated to them, for Kai to tell her how he felt when losing her to the ocean, how bad of a brother he felt and that he failed to keep his promise of protecting her.I want to see scenes of kai dealing with grief and why he even started teaching martial arts.

I want ninjago to stop just showing nya and jays bond. I want ninjago to show that the importance of kai and nyas bond is just as important, or even more so. I want nya to realize how much kai did and still does for her, and that the only reason kai even joined the ninja was to save HER. ( we really need to talk abt this more ). I want nya to realize what boundaries kai crossed to keep her safe. I want more scenes of their childhood that show Kai’s sacrifices and nyas upbringing. I want nya to realize all of this and thank kai and hug him and tell him she loves him.

I want her to tell him that he is the best older brother anyone could ever ask for. i mean seriously; nya seemed only worried about jay when the ninja were in court. WE DIDNT EVEN GET A SIBLING HUG WHEN NYA CAME BACK. IN CONCLUSION: WE WANT MORE KAI AND NYA.
