Full body chills, chest flushed, heart pounding, vision blurring, head buzzing; I am but a humble worm in soil arising with the rain to lay beneath your gaze, swathed in your light and bathing in your tears
before you stab someone: THINK!
how can you make it Tender?
how can you make it Homoerotic?
how can you make it Implicitly intimate?
how can you make it Noticeably a metaphor for sex?
how can you make it Kind of gay?
Looking back at episode 4, in addition to Matt Murdock starting to understand Frank Castle’s view on morality due to Foggy’s murder, it looks like Frank is also starting to understand Matt’s viewpoint. Because even though he claims to not care about the Punisher cultist cops, it’s clear that he’s bothered by it. And, of course, Matt’s speech about Foggy’s decency and good character clearly got to Frank.
It’s interesting. Matt is starting to understand why Frank has such a black-and-white view on people. While he wants to believe that there’s good in everyone, there’s people like Bullseye who don’t deserve anyone’s pity. Meanwhile, Frank is starting to understand why Matt tries to see the good in everyone and why he chooses to be a hero. He’s bothered by the legacy he’s creating with the Punisher cult and he understands why Foggy was so important to Matt as a pillar of decency. It’s like he realized at the moment that he was the bad guy. Foggy inspired people to do good, he was inspiring people to do evil.
This almost feels like a continuation of the rooftop scene in DD season 2. But instead of yelling at each other and being all stubborn with their beliefs, they’re coming to an understanding. Now, obviously, this doesn’t mean Matt’s gonna start killing people and Frank is gonna take a vow of non-violence. But the two of them understanding each other and why they believe what they believe is a good angle to develop their characters.
Also, based on the BTS photos, this would explain why they’re fine with teaming up in the latter half of the season. DD season 2 Matt and Frank wouldn’t team up unless they absolutely had to. DDBA Matt and Frank, I can see them tolerating each other more.
CHARLIE COX as MATT MURDOCK 3.07: Aftermath
“This is our city, not his. And we CAN take it back”
“Resist. Rebel. Rebuild.”
What an interesting and not at all culturally relevant thing to say Matthew
"In another life, you may be defending me. That's what a good man does. Defends his worst enemy" you don't fucking understand how hard that line goes when you know that Dex isn't Matt's worst enemy. Fisk is. And Matt defended his worst enemy. Because that's what a good man does
Not me not shutting up as usual.
It's pretty evident that Karen and Matt vs Fisk and Vanessa are meant to be seen as units when it comes to parallels and foils.
This gets more in line with Karedevil because thematically and writing wise is what makes more sense. If that bothers you, please don't read it.
Vanessa and Fisk do love each other but they love nothing else. Their love makes them even worse people, it makes them more selfish, more brutal, more unrelenting.
Vanessa kills Adam (that, like Frank is right in the middle of the shot) because she knows Fisk won't do it so she will. For him. For them.
Theorically, we were also meant to see the flip side of that and I believe (again nin shipper, I'm just being objective here) that Karen and Matt are there representation of that.
In just a few minutes Karen got to show Matt that, like Foggy, she sees all of him (and it was left implied that like Foggy she loves all of him) but the main difference here is that she pushes Matt to be better, she forgives him his transgressions and loves him in spite of them.
But Karen is one of the reasons Matt went through one of his biggest character arcs (the one of letting people in). She made him see he wasn't alone, that he he has her, and I think she probably regrets having left.
But I do think Vanessa and Fisk are meant to show the dark side of love while Matt and Karen are the representation of the light, healthy side of that love. Potentially, even though Karen obviously has feelings for Frank.
Both foil each other, contrast each other and parallel each other. I believe this is meant to establish them as THE couples of the story, but for different reasons.
I think is disingenuous to believe that they'd get Matt and Karen together just due to the comics. There's enough textual and visual cues on both the Netflix and Disney parts of this that lead me see that as possibility.
When Karen comes back, Matt gets softer, more quiet, and yeah, sure, he's in a lot of pain, so it could be that, but Karen is back and she actually listens to him about the hit on foggy, she believes him and helps. She doesn't make him feel insane and try to shut him down.
Matt's life is in shambles once again but he'd rather have this than continue to live in the fake purgatory he was floating through. Karen comes back and Matt starts to feel real again.
now that the daredevil fandom is back up and swinging, i’m seeing a lot of ship discourse.
“that scene was all about mattfoggy, how could anyone think it’s fratt?”
“if they try to make karedevil a thing i’m going to riot”
“kastle is obviously better than karedevil”
personally, i think they should all just be allowed to kiss each other.
i am the type of person who flips to the back of a book first because i cannot stand when a story doesn’t have a happy ending
i am also the type of person who’s favorite character of all time is matthew murdock
unfortunately matthew murdock is the type of person who never gets any happy anything ever
tis a cruel twist of fate
(anyway, can’t wait to watch my shayla somehow get even more miserable and beat up!!!! cheers!!!!)
