Heather: Wants to write a book about vigilantes, “why we revere the mask”, and what it brings out in people when they put on a mask

Matt Murdock strolling into a bank robbery whistling cheerfully, acting confused about what's happening, and then accusing the robbers of ableism when they try to release him is everything I've ever wanted. No more dark and edgy shit I just want twenty more episodes of this

i live in quebec, all of my advertisements on disney+ are in french. I’m usually alright with the dubs, even if they’re a bit inaccurate to the original actors voices.

recently i’ve been getting ads for The Amateur (L’Amatuer) and seeing Jon Bernthal and hearing him dubbed in french is the funniest shit i’ve ever heard

idk what it is about him that makes it feel so wrong, but French Bernthal now lives rent free in my head

The best part, imo, of both of today's eps is not Matt finally putting the Daredevil suit on, nor Fisk starting to snap, nor Muse finally getting screen time, and not even the shit ton of symbolism (religious and otherwise) smacking you in the face.

It's that Yusuf Khan watched Matt beat up a banker robber and then unlock a bank vault, and was like "I am gonna mind my own fucking business I don't want any more information about this Thank You Very Much!"

Self Portrait I Guess. Been A Bit Bedridden Due To Cfs And Can’t Stop Thinking About Them.

Self portrait I guess. Been a bit bedridden due to cfs and can’t stop thinking about them.

[image ID: A digital drawing of a tired looking cartoonish person with long hair. Behind them are image stills from Marvel’s Daredevil tv show as well as some from Marvel’s The Punisher tv show. They are surrounded by little cartoon hearts. The bottom right corner shows a text box which says the following: “male(ish), twenty years old, five feet three inches, victim of severe and chronic daredevil brainrot”.]

i continue to be extremely impressed by the way daredevil: born again handles the arc involving police corruption. first it was the cops with the punisher tattoos and frank’s obvious and explicit dislike of them, and now the whole thing with fisk’s anti-vigilante task force? explicitly including commentary on how special privileges for this task force include not having to use body cameras, when this is something that comes up in police corruption IRL, is so… it’s so important. it’s a conversation that needs to be had and by god they’re having it.

this show is literally telling us how this kind of behavior is evil. it’s being the opposite of subtle. it doesn’t cut corners. it’s so rare to get a big-budget production from a company like disney that actually says things of value, and for it to be something as current and polarizing and important as the corruption in the police force? i’m shocked. pleasantly so, but shocked nonetheless.

not to mention the way there’s actually heavy-handed critiques of the justice system itself. the arcs with hector ayala and leroy mancini serve to emphasize the privilege people like matt have in a system that’s designed to disadvantage people. matt might be the hero in the story but he’s not innocent in upholding the shitty laws and regulations that are put in place to keep other people down.

it’s such a clear portrayal of the corruption that permeates every level of the justice system from the ground up and society as a whole and the fact that it’s a fucking disney+ show??? i’m kind of in awe.

this episode had everything I love. matt being competent. using people's perceptions of him to his advantage. being a little shit. thigh murder incapacitation. secret skills. accent shenanigans. gratuitous cameos. no wilson fisk.

i loved episodes 5/6. they had me smiling and shouting at my screen the whole time. you know, like a crazy person. here are my two cents, lmk your thoughts.

(spoilers below)

episode 5 thoughts

-tbh i would love a series of just matt/daredevil stopping crime throughout the city. no big overarching story, just slice of life vigilantism. i want to see him break people’s faces then go and have dinner with the khans.

-him whistling when he went back in and just overall being a smartass the whole time was so very matt coded and i loved it

-yesssss please give us matt cracking more safes, it’s so sexy of him

-also another stairwell fight for the books. amen.

-i always find it so strange when matt gets his ass almost beat by Regular Thugs, or even Regular Thugs who can Fight. my guy has taken down entire gangs by himself while half dead with only God and a hallway on his side. you expect me to believe some irish guy can give him a run for his money? not a chance.

episode 6 thoughts:

-MATT IS PRAYING AGAIN. it makes me think about season three when he embraces the daredevil identity over matt murdock and says “even god can’t stop that now”. now it feels like he’s praying for god to stop it.

-THE FOGGY MEMORIAL CARD KISS!!!???? my heart broke somehow even more.

-heather absolutely has to know something about matt isn’t quite right. she’s a smart lady and he is a walking bundle of trauma. he’s got scars, a gap filled history, so much loss, and he brushes off a hostage situation like it’s no biggie? i wonder if she’s going to figure it out on her own.

-angela, oh my goodness. shes so wonderful. she’s exactly what matt needs to cut through the bullshit, but i need her to stay safe omg stop going into dangerous situations please.

-the fight with muse was so good. up until now some of the fight scenes have been alright, if not a bit stilted. the fridge one was good, but the muse fight was so good. i could’ve done without the cuts to the fisk and adam one though, i understand why they did it but i don’t have to like it.

-i’m still having a hard time getting through the fisk scenes. i just can’t really bring myself to care enough about him unfortunately. i think he’s important to the plot, but a lot feels drawn out for no real reason.

-matt saying “i’m here” in reference to daredevil and looking so (defeated? relieved?). he knows if he’s called the police instead that she’d be dead. the prayer overlapping the cpr was so so much.

-“fuck it”. when i tell you i gasped

-ahhh yes. matt actively going against cherry telling him not to get involved. there’s the daredevil we know and love.

-i actually am going to need frank to shoot all of those cops and fisk and muse directly in the face. please and thank you.

i am the type of person who flips to the back of a book first because i cannot stand when a story doesn’t have a happy ending

i am also the type of person who’s favorite character of all time is matthew murdock

unfortunately matthew murdock is the type of person who never gets any happy anything ever

tis a cruel twist of fate

(anyway, can’t wait to watch my shayla somehow get even more miserable and beat up!!!! cheers!!!!)

i believe him! (that bullet wound was probably just from tripping down some stairs)

matt murdock will stumble into work with 5 stab wounds, a black eye and a cut lip and his excuse will be like “I got run over by a boeing 747 idk im blind shit happens”

now that the daredevil fandom is back up and swinging, i’m seeing a lot of ship discourse.

“that scene was all about mattfoggy, how could anyone think it’s fratt?”

“if they try to make karedevil a thing i’m going to riot”

“kastle is obviously better than karedevil”

personally, i think they should all just be allowed to kiss each other.

every episode has me even more impressed by and grateful for this man. he really is The Matt Murdock. he carries so hard.

This Is Facts And I Really Need Some Respect Placed On Charlie's Name, He Is The Lifeblood Of This Franksteined

This is facts and I really need some respect placed on Charlie's name, he is the lifeblood of this franksteined season and is doing a lot of the work to make it compelling and worthwhile to watch.

And his range! In the last episode alone, his comedic timing on his response to the Skrull line, his charm when he was negotiating with the prosecutor, and then his heart-wrenching delivery during his conversation about Foggy.

His performance as Matt this season is like his excellence in the Netflix show but on steroids since he needs to do a lot more carrying for a show with a troubled production. I can write a whole 100000 word essay on the nuances of his acting in these 4 episodes so far. He's so good.

Like what this tweet says. He's making a lot of silly-sounding dialogue seem so earnest and believable, that's talent.

Just a Charlie Cox acting appreciation post because man he deserves one

Looking back at episode 4, in addition to Matt Murdock starting to understand Frank Castle’s view on morality due to Foggy’s murder, it looks like Frank is also starting to understand Matt’s viewpoint. Because even though he claims to not care about the Punisher cultist cops, it’s clear that he’s bothered by it. And, of course, Matt’s speech about Foggy’s decency and good character clearly got to Frank.

It’s interesting. Matt is starting to understand why Frank has such a black-and-white view on people. While he wants to believe that there’s good in everyone, there’s people like Bullseye who don’t deserve anyone’s pity. Meanwhile, Frank is starting to understand why Matt tries to see the good in everyone and why he chooses to be a hero. He’s bothered by the legacy he’s creating with the Punisher cult and he understands why Foggy was so important to Matt as a pillar of decency. It’s like he realized at the moment that he was the bad guy. Foggy inspired people to do good, he was inspiring people to do evil.

This almost feels like a continuation of the rooftop scene in DD season 2. But instead of yelling at each other and being all stubborn with their beliefs, they’re coming to an understanding. Now, obviously, this doesn’t mean Matt’s gonna start killing people and Frank is gonna take a vow of non-violence. But the two of them understanding each other and why they believe what they believe is a good angle to develop their characters.

Also, based on the BTS photos, this would explain why they’re fine with teaming up in the latter half of the season. DD season 2 Matt and Frank wouldn’t team up unless they absolutely had to. DDBA Matt and Frank, I can see them tolerating each other more.

he was his other half!!!!! they were nelson and murdock!!!! brb sobbing.

The way he didn’t call Foggy his friend or his brother or whatever… he called him his partner… because that’s exactly who he is and was.

My mattfoggy heart is crying screaming throwing up

Am I the only one who really didn't take kindly to Foggy and Karen treating Matt like an addict for his Daredevil-ing? I don't think there is ever any mention about the dehumanizing effect that has on Matt. It makes it look like it is justified for Foggy and Karen to call Matt that because the writing made it want to look like he mainly goes out at night just because he's angry and likes taking out that anger on criminals/craving for violence when that's not the case. One of the main reasons he can't give up Daredevil is that his senses allows him to hear the cries for help from people every night. And doing nothing would eat away at the soul of anyone who has even an ounce of empathy in their heart, but most especially Matt who we saw drop everything even when he was in critical condition to save a little boy.

Additionally, Matt's suicide attempt in Season 3 was never addressed by anyone at all, or when he showed suicidal ideations in front of Karen during the scene with Jasper Evans and the show just proceeded like normal and focused more on having them be mad at Matt for being a bad friend and nothing more.

I suppose I'm just scratching my head at the kind of callous attitude by the show's writing of Foggy and Karen towards Matt's clear mental illness. This is not to say mental illness is an excuse for every behavior, but if the writers can have Karen showing empathy towards Frank Castle and his PTSD then they could have the same for Matt's friends for his obvious chronic depression and suicidal ideations.

this is so true! i also think it was really hard for frank to see matt like that. like his fire had gone out. he does have respect for daredevil, and seeing him so broken must have been so disconcerting.

even saying all the terrible pointed things he said, you could see how wounded frank was.

No but the way Frank didn’t want Matt to leave, thinking of sth new to say every time he turned to walk out and then looking empty af once Matt actually left??? Frank‘s so damn lonely, sitting in that dark basement surrounded by only guns, hit maps and the memories of his family. 😭

Matt's little :] to hide the barely contained violence and rage and grief that's vibrating under his skin at a frequency that would register on a richter scale is everything to me actually
