Sometimes we just get some terrible bouts of luck that just needs to end and go away. Here’s how.
Get yourself a candle. Red’s a good choice but gold or white will also work. You might want to go with a smaller candle here, like a votive or even a tealight. Added bonus: one with a cleansing or comforting scent. Or burn incense or aromatherapy oils in the background for that cleansing/comforting scent. Super bonus round: Start with a cleansing scent during the spell and once it’s done and the candle’s burned down, start the comforting scent. Examples: cleansing might be mint, citrus, sage, etc but comforting might might pumpkin, vanilla, or apple.
Charge your candle with intent or visualize you goal! Alternative, just TELL the candle what you want to happen or carve it into the wax. This depends on your personal practice and if there’s enough space on the candle to even carve things into.
If you’ve got it, use a good luck oil to coat your candle. Or use luck drawing herbs. This’ll depend largely on your practice and stuff on hand. I tend to use clover and cinquefoil (five finger grass) personally but YMMV.
Light your candle and chant:
Trouble has come my way,
Bad luck and bad times are bad friends
i turn them away. Unwelcomed and unwanted,
I break this cycle now.
[blow out the candle. Take a deep breath and release it. Light it again, saying the following]
With this new flame, I bring good luck into my life
Good things, beneficial things, will happen
And when this candle died, my good luck will live on
[let the candle burn out]
Hi! I was wondering if you could tell me a bit more about your 'getting to know you' spread for a new deck? It probably sounds silly but my new deck feels a bit 'reluctant' compared to my previous one, if that makes sense, and I was wondering if you had any pointers 😊
Hello! First off, you don’t sound silly at all. Some decks, just like some people, are a little shy or reticent when they meet someone and need a prompt to open up. Which is where Deck Interviews, like my Getting to Know You spread, come in.
The standard deck interview, which I first came across quite a few years ago, is a six card draw. However, as I’ve worked I’ve expanded on that and my current spread is a nine draw. Yes, this is because I’m quite attached to the magical significance of 3x3 but also because I’m one of those people who can’t resist tinkering to make things personal.
Caveat at this point to say everyone should please feel free to change this in anyway that feels right to you.
So, the spread itself:
The five cards in the bottom row focus solely on the deck:
1. What is your nature? Basically tell me about yourself, give me an idea of your character.
2. What are your strengths? Tell me what type of readings you’re going to excel at.
3. What do you like doing best? Which may at first glance look like a repeat of question 2, but it isn’t. I have observed that, again like people, some decks may not always enjoy doing the thing they are best at - I’m brilliant at maths but I get much more joy out of reading tarot and writing (which I’m good at but not as good as I am at maths).
4. What are your weaknesses? Tell me what type of readings you’re going to struggle with.
5. What do you not like doing? Again, like people, the thing your deck might like least may not correspond to what it is weakest at.
The three cards in the middle row focus on the immediate relationship between you and the deck:
6. How do you feel about me? (no explanation needed)
7. What do you think I need to learn? Tell me what you’ve come into my life to teach me/help me understand.
8. How can I work to achieve that? Tell me what you want us to focus on first.
The final card on the top row is looking ahead at the relationship between you and the deck:
9. Where do you see us going together? Tell me which path we’re on, in this journey we’re about to take together!
I hope that helps. If you do use it, or create your own deck interview spread from this, please do share the results!

I’m gonna fight ‘em off A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back They’re gonna rip it off Taking their time right behind my back And I’m talkin’ to myself at night Because I can’t forget Back and forth through my mind Behind a cigarette And the message comin’ from my eyes says, “Leave it alone.”
x
If you’re like me, you grew up on songs like Seven Nation Army. Or you’ve heard them profusely, at least. That’s how it was for me, since my parents were both deep into the punk/grunge scene in the 80′s-early 90′s. Lots of the songs I heard were songs like Seven Nation Army, and every time I heard it when I was little, it just filled me with this sort of war-like energy. It made me feel like I could take on anything with gleaming, narrowed eyes, blazing guns, and a whole lot of smoke.
This isn’t your average protection bottle. This makes sure that if anyone even dares to fuck with you, there’s no way they’re coming out of it without the scars to remember why messing with you is a terrible, awful idea.
Rue - Causing Strife (Poisonous, do not handle if pregnant/nursing)
Nettle - Causing Strife, and Protection
Cactus - Causing Strife and Pain, as well as Protection
Devil’s Shoestring - Binding, Causing Pain, and Protection
Cayenne - Causing Pain, Protection
Something sharp (i.e. Thorns, Glass, Nails) - General Cursing, Causing Pain. HANDLE WITH EXTREME CARE.
Your own Blood, Sweat, Spit, and Urine - Binds the protection to you, and adds a surprisingly strong kick to any curse. Only procure these by safe means, do not exert/harm yourself more than you need to.
A Poppet represent your current/future enemies
A jar you can seal up nice and tight
Cleanse your space, place down your protections, cleanse your tools, and get ready to begin.
In the jar, add in your sharp objects, minus the cactus. Make sure there’s enough for your poppet to lay across.
Create your poppet, and make it either look like your representation, or leave it blank to represent anyone who will mess with you in the coming future. Inside of the poppet, add your Rue, Nettle, and Cayenne.
Once you’ve got that dealt with, take your Devil’s Shoestring, and bind that thing’s hands and legs together. If you’re feeling especially fired up, you can even bind it’s throat.
Take the Cactus Pricks you’ve acquired, and carefully push them into where you wish your target’s pain to be the worst. My person opinion? The crotch area, the chest, the head, the legs, and the arms. Or any combination thereof.
Take that poppet, give it it’s identity*, and then throw it in there. Cover it up in any additional sharp things you may have left over, and then put some additional Nettle, Cactus, Devil’s Shoestring, and Cayenne inside.
After this, take your Blood, Sweat, Spit, and Urine. Put them inside.
Repeat these lyrics over the bottle as much as needed, then close the spell, and go on to cleanse your space and tools, as well as yourself. Shake the jar when you need a boost of protection, and leave it on your altar/space for it’s protection, and a reminder thereof. To remove this protection, simply open the jar, and dispose of the ingredients in the trash.
* To Give your Poppet it’s Identity, repeat this:
“Poppet, I name you [Name]/I name you after my future enemies. As you are bound, so are they bound. As you are caused this pain and strife, so are they caused this pain and strife. As you suffer, so shall they suffer.”
It should be noted, that this curse will only set off if you give it a specific target. Otherwise, it’s programmed to only begin when someone messes with you in any major way that would warrant a curse this strong to be applied.
I have anxiety so calm sigils are pretty important to me :)
*Now taking sigil requests*
