Mushroom fact of the week!

Enoki mushrooms actually only look like how most people think of them when grown in total darkness. They look quite normal otherwise!

I could tell from the veil xD Destroying angel was one of the first ever mushrooms I learned about when entering the mycology community

I'm proud to know that the majority of us will not die from eating the wrong fungi 😃👍

Truly though, that mushroom is drilled into your head the second you become a part of the mycology community, it, and the death cap

I feel very mushroom biased some of these funguary posts I have spent hours compiling research and formatting it nicely, I've even used paper sources and cited studies on a some of them, then for some like the Crepidotus I can't find anything interesting, spend five minutes on it, and give up.

I'm sorry T-T

Funguary Day 27: Scarlet Cup

Most species that would come to mind when you think of fungi are basidiomycetes, fungi that produce their spores in cells called basidia. This phylum of fungi contains most of the “fleshy” fungi, including all fungi with gills or pores. Some “fleshy” fungi however, like the Scarlet Cup, are Ascomycetes. Mushrooms like morels and saddle fungi are also a part of this phylum. Ascomycetes produce their spores in sac-like structures called asci, unlike the basidia of the basidiomycetes. Funguary Day 25: Trumpet of Death

“Trumpet of death” is actually a misleading name, as these mushrooms are highly sought after for being edible. They are also known as “horn of plenty” and can be found in autumn. They do, however, have several poisonous lookalikes.

no but seriously I loveeeee this game, it has to be one of my favorite games out there :) The tv show is great too

Funguary Day 13: Fly Agaric

The Fly Agaric is quite possibly the most iconic mushroom there is. It was traditionally used as an insecticide. The cap was broken into pieces and sprinkled into saucers of milk. It contains ibotenic acid which both attracts and kills flies, thus, giving it its name.
