Secret Solenoid 2018!

I’m happy to announce that Secret Solenoid is opening for the fourth year in a row!

WHAT IS IT?

Secret Solenoid is a Secret Santa exchange for Transformers fan artists and writers. If you’ve ever been in a fandom gift exchange, you probably know what’s up. You sign up, you get a prompt/request list from someone else, you make their gift in secret, then at the end of the exchange you share it, and get a gift of your own! Secret Solenoid is hosted here on tumblr, and on the Secret Solenoid community over on pillowfort.

For all updates on the exchange, please join the Secret Solenoid group on pillowfort or follow the secretsolenoid tumblr.

This year (Nov 2018-Jan 2019) the schedule is:

November 1st: Signups Open

November 15th: Signups Close

November 18th: Wishlists Distributed

December 23rd: Gifts Complete/Check-in/Final Emergency Fills go out

January 1st-6th: Gifts Posted

JOINING THE EXCHANGE:

To sign up, you just need to fill out this google form! All the relevant questions are detailed in the form, but here’s a quick summary of what to expect.

The first thing you’ll need to include is your name and a contact (email/tumblr/pillowfort). Whatever you list is how you’ll get information like your wishlist for the exchange, and how the mod will be checking in with you, so make sure it’s something you check regularly.

Next, you’re going to include information about the kind of gift you’d like to. Whether it’s fanfic, fanart, or both, what continuities you’re familiar with, and what kind of content you’d prefer to make. This is also where you let me know if you can do a second gift, if you’d like to step in for someone who drops out of the exchange.

And finally, your wishlist! The most important thing to include is your requests. Make sure to include at least three of them, so that you’re giving your gift-maker plenty to work with!

For example, a wishlist might look like:

TFP, Bumblebee, Smokescreen: Bee and Smokey having a race!

IDW MTMTE/RiD, Swerve/Blurr, Bar battle

Any Continuity, Soundwave being badass in a dynamic action pose

NSFW prompts are allowed, as are prompts featuring TFOCs, but please make sure not all of your options feature them.

GIFTS:

Your gift should be a finished piece. If you’re writing, your piece should be at minimum 1,000 words, and edited before it’s sent in. For artists, that means an inked/colored piece, rather than a sketch. If you’re doing traditional artwork, the scan/photograph should be good quality.

All the deadlines are listed above! If you find out that you’ll need an extension to finish your gift, or if you’re going to have to drop out of the exchange, please let me know before December 23rd!

A selection of sparklings from Pink_Shoes Awake series, it’s an absolutely terrific fic about Megatron getting used to life after the war, but it also has lots of very cute sparklings which I had to draw!

These have all been approved by Pink_Shoes and we’ve also discussed some sparklings that appear later in the stories setting, so I might have to draw them all later as well.

Doubletake is based on a design from the scrapped Transformers Universe game. Overcharge is an existing design but I reworked his colours to fit more with Astro and Blitz. Starfire is based on SG!Starscream cos the moment I read the description ‘white and red seekerlet’ that was the first thing that I imagined, also he will one day grow up to be a fantastic scientist.

Finally,after a solid month of fighting with design choices, I have completed a blue Pearl Jazz(transformers) design for a Steven Universe AU. I chose to make her gem specifically a Tahitian Blue Pearl because even though there are pearls that are dyed certain colors in order to cut corners and prices, I wanted her to be a naturally dark blue Pearl which are far more rare and valuable(at least that’s what the internet says about pearls lol). Thank you very much @theparallelwall for letting me base her design on your human fem Jazz, I hope I did her justice!^_^

Alright.

THE STORY:

As some of you may know, I’m moving overseas. To the other side of the planet. Different country, different culture and dialect and everything. This is because the most wonderful woman on earth proposed to me, I said yes, and the instant my previous employer found out I was engaged to another female they decided to freeze me out.

While I am seeking legal recourse, it is a long-term thing and has allowed these multinational shitlords to stuff me around when it comes to my upcoming emigration. (Yes, they approved my visa even though I hate Pumpkin Spiced ANYTHING. Shocking, yeah?)

So here we are. Here I am.

My final paycheck has come in and I’m still about $NZ1,000 short of where I need to be to get myself and Dral safely away. I’m putting all my furniture except Nana’s chest of drawers on Trademe, but even if they sell they’re not worth much. The Wacom is going up too but I’m not sure it’ll sell. Right now my family are too focused on their “one useful child” to do more than make sure I’m out of the way so Baby Bro can take over the place with minimum fuss. They’ve made it abundantly clear they’ll do no more for me at this point besides driving me to the airport.
