Gonna reblog this so you can see more notes. This post needs them.
Anyway, sarees are a cultural garment of South Asia and have nothing to do with religion. If you aren't Desi then don't wear them unless you're among us. As in actually in South Asia, or visiting or living among a South Asian diaspora community, at a Desi cultural event or religious space, or any instance where a Desi person invites you to wear them. Those cases are simply cultural assimilation, which is a mark of respect, so you're very welcome. Some Desi people might be uncomfortable with it if you're wearing it as a cultural showcase, like a Bollywood dance on stage, and they're allowed to be. It goes without saying that this also applies to lehenga and shalwar kameez, although those are widespread in Middle Eastern culture as well, so those dress rules can be extended to those spaces in the same way.
Cultural appropriation is primarily an immigrant and diaspora minority issue. Not that it doesn't impact the people living in our native countries, but its effects are felt first and foremost by the ones who actually have to integrate into white society.
Do buy sarees from South Asian designers and sellers, if you have appropriate events where other people will also be wearing them. That's cultural patronage. Make your own dresses out of the saree cloth. That's cultural exchange.
And if you're confused about what a white person is, it's a white-skinned person of European origin. Not whether someone is pale or tan. Hope that helps. šøšøšøš¤
White people please reblog. Thank you.

I have cats and I call them dirty, naughty, witch and stinky but as a joke and affectionately. I love cats but I can't comprehend people who actively dream up how to hurt cats. Like I get telling an asshole cat that someone will punt them if they continue to act shitty but I knew someone who was told that this person wished they could kick a cat so hard it gets bruises. Unbelievable.
The difference between dog-people-who-donāt-like-cats and cat-people-who-donāt-like-dogs is just so staggering and, quite honestly, disturbing.
Most cat people who donāt like dogs either donāt like dogs out of fear or because they donāt want the big time commitment and responsibility that owning a dog brings with it (-> going on walks, going to dog training school) and thatās that. I donāt think Iāve ever heard someone do a general character assassination of dogs.
But dog people who donāt like cats will really go on about how cats arenāt⦠capable of love or some shit? How they donāt want an animal who sets personal boundaries - the most cited thing is always the āand they will just hit you at randomā (when thatās not even true; cats hit āat randomā either due to trauma/abuse or because they have warned you beforehand to stop whatever behavior they dislike and you didnāt listen).
Thatās just so wild to me. Cats have such an awful rep for, what exactly? Having personalities? Setting personal boundaries? Not being fucking stuffed toys?
All Iām hearing when people complain about that is that they want a stuffed toy they can pick up whenever they want and can cuddle however long they want and then put back on the shelf when they donāt want to play with it anymore and Iām sorry but you donāt want a pet at all, you want a stuffed toy.
A dog doesnāt deserve you either?? I may not have personal experience with owning a dog, but I somewhat suspect dogs to have personalities too? To want affection when they want it too, and to want to be left alone when they need downtime tooā¦?
And cats show love. How is it that in the year 2023, when cat videos are not even just on YouTube but also on tiktok and are literally on everyoneās fingertips, that people still have the misconception that cats donāt show love or arenāt capable of love thatās so fucking messed up itās just so severely fucked up.
"Excuse me, but I wanted to say-"
No, why would I excuse you for interrupting me? You dug this pit of snakes now go slither inside with them.

People are coming from Twitter or Tik Tok because they don't like that atmosphere. Or others (like me) don't like the ways of interaction there or find too much toxicity on those apps with no sense of humor to balance it and join Tumblr straightaway instead. I don't like making vids or posting pictures. I like being a bit weird and talking about my interests without being taken seriously and having fun in general and people appreciating that instead of trying to find about my real life.
I think the worst possible outcome of tumblr getting popular again would be twitter types registering complaints about being told to get devoured by swarms of ravenous bees over their lame opinions, and staff feeling an obligation to ban threats of violence or whatever.
Also, several people who are immigrants wonāt be able to tell the difference as daffodils don't grow in their native place. Do they deserve to die for that?
James Wong is one of the most beleagured men on Twitter. Not only did he recently get fired from the Observer for publicly objecting to platforming a TERF, he has a bunch of idiots arguing that daffodils (toxic) bundled like spring onions and placed in the produce section next to other alliums isn't dangerous because people should "know better" somehow.
Marks and Spencer is a UK-based retailer with some stores in a few other countries as well. I haven't seen daffodils sold like this in the U.S., but this is your regular reminder that staff at any given store don't necessarily know how toxic the plant products they're selling are. If you see something like this, bring it to the store's attention and also notify their corporate office.
My thing is that i do live my life sans tik tok i dont use it to do anything i dont get information from it i dont buy (?????) from randos on there and im not even doing a holier-than-thou thing thats just the way ive lived my life bc im old and tired lol.
But like - lets look at India. India did ban tik tok mainly due to a conflict w china (which is a trade partner/adversary just like us) and let me tell you. Indians did not suddenly Enter The Monastery lol they are doing all of their misinformation, snake oil hawking, and religious extremism JUST FINE on other platforms mainly reels.
All thats to say that i dont think banning tiktok will solve the problems i want it to solve but it also won't be the end of the line. There are or will be other platforms - probably worse in some ways and better in others. Tiktok is not a public utility idk
