While Jesus was eating with friends, a woman came and poured expensive oil on his feet. His disciples (Judas especially), were upset by the “waste”, but Jesus thanked her. To him, she understood his imminent death better than the people who were supposed to be closest to him.

Later, Judas (who’d been stealing funds from their group), agreed to help the religious Pharisees arrest Jesus in exchange for 30 silver pieces.

Jesus lived his last week like he lived his life: for others. He taught the people, told them about the kingdom of God and how to enter it. He reprimanded the religious leaders, and even trashed the temple court because the vendors there were cheats, tainting God’s house. He stood up for the oppressed in spite of the religious authorities, and they hated him for it. But the people loved him, and Jesus had broken no law. There was nothing they could do.
