actually how it feels sometimes to see really good art
Big Mama is quite a high profile person so when four sons show up from seemingly nowhere people are bound to talk.
The spider traits clearly mark the brothers as her children but they also have a distinctly turtle-like appearance. So people think back with the approximated ages of these kids in mind and now there are two opposing camps; thoes who say Lou Jitsu was secretly a kappa who used a cloaking broach to make it big in both the human world and hidden city alike, and thoes who are convinced there was an affairs and that being the reason Lou Jitsu and Big Mama broke up with the battle nexus champion leaving without a trace.
Ofcourse then CJ appears and when someone overhears him call Big Mama "grand-mama" the rumour mill and theories are once again in full swing.
(Hope you found this vignette funny. I love you AUs and I'm always exited whenever there is a new post)
Lol yes! this is great! A yokai rumor mill sounds hilarious lol! and there would be plenty for them to talk about with some theories more rediculous than others. Like maybe someone sees them around Draxum and starts a perposterous rumor that Big Mama and Lou had paid Draxum to clone some kids for them, but he messed it up and accidentally made them turtles hybrids instead and that's why Mama's pissed at him.
and aww, thank you!!

Oracle isn't just a name. It's an identity that is inextricably intertwined with Barbara Gordon reclaiming herself and her sense of agency over her body and life after becoming disabled.
The last 13 years of dedicated activism have gotten us back to a point where Oracle is acknowledged and Babs is portrayed as a competent adult woman, and I'm grateful she finally has her team back. But DC still refuses to acknowledge and uplift her as disabled, undermining the core thesis of Barbara's character in the modern era. And as long as she's not visibly disabled…she's still not Oracle.
Oracle was created because two people (Kim Yale and John Ostrander) saw a horribly misogynistic story and went "no. We can do better. We SHOULD do better." Oracle was a rebirth, a revitalization, a refusal to allow women to be relegated to the sidelines and margins of superhero comics regardless of physical ability.
To refuse to portray her as visibly disabled undermines everything that Babs as Oracle stood for, both in-universe and in real life. It betrays the identity's foundations as a reclamation of agency and heroism. It betrays her creators' intent as an avenue for disability representation and a revitalization of a character summarily discarded because the company saw no further use for her. It betrays the millions of readers who read her stories for nearly 25 years and enjoyed stories brimming with strength, independence, and heroism that depicted a disabled character at their center.
It's doubly frustrating because it's clear that DC is slowly moving Cass back into the "primary Batgirl" role, allowing us to have a semblance of Oracle back, but they seem to think of Oracle as an interchangable identity with Batgirl that Babs would have had even if TKJ had never happened. And outside of Batgirls (which ended last year), they won't even meet people halfway and make Barbara an ambulatory wheelchair user who uses forearm crutches and/or a cane when she's mobile.
Again: I'm grateful that Oracle is being acknowledged again. I'm grateful Babs is back to being a competent adult and team leader who has friends outside of Gotham. But I continue to be frustrated at the company-wide sexism keeping her from fully moving on from Batgirl and the ableism prohibiting her from being shown as visibly disabled.
Daughter of fantasy villains decides to rebel against her parents by actually going through with her arranged marriage to a local golden retriever of a prince instead of running off with some local villain-to-be or conquering said golden retriever’s kingdom and ruling it solo like her parents expect her to. Plus, sue her, she’s into the clean-cut earnest look.
At the same time, local prince charming discovers that he’s actually very into the gothic fiance his parents have landed him with in order to try and establish peace with the local evil lair down the lane, he would never have guessed a spiderweb pattern could look so fetching on a ball gown…?
Meanwhile, two pairs of parents in a tizzy because they both expected their offspring to whole-heartedly reject this union and give them an excuse to conquer their goody-two-shoes/evil neighbours, they’re not supposed to actually like each other-!
I find it very interesting that ISABELLA thought RAY wouldn’t retaliate
yeah we know the full extent of Ray’s perspective and scheming from the beginning, more so than Isabella, but when she confronts him she knows he is a liar (and apparently a bad one)
Ray thought he was “doing a good job” at lying not actually giving Isabella information
so Isabella thought Ray was a liar just like her
He’s been watching his siblings die and not putting up a fight before so she thought he was complacent
once he lost Norman (his Leslie) she thought he would give up like he did because Ray is her son(whether she likes it or not)
Isabella thought she was giving them the happiest lift possible after knowing the truth by making them give up
but i think what Isabella never really expanded on was Ray being more like her rather than different (aka going out with a band rather than accepting the world they live in)
because ray sacrificed kids to survive just like she did
And maybe deep down she was hoping they were different
that because she had a son and not a daughter she wouldn’t make her child into a murderer that repeats the cycle
idk where this is going lol their relationship makes me too ill to think straight and put this into words XD
I would love it if after Mikey brings Raphie over to the Rise universe, CJ sees him and shouts "Grandpops!" At the top of his lungs(or great uncle Raphie but Grandpops has more oomph) and Raphie face just gets stuck on this weird strangled smile as he tries to figure out what exactly Dee has been doing since he got sent home
lol yes! Raphie's just sitting there like "yes i have a grandchild!" but also like "It's only been two years. how did i get a grandchild?!"
Though, i will say this, it would be pretty cute if, in the apocalypse timeline, Future Dee was the one that adopted baby CJ (similar to how FW has Raph adopting him.) Cass would still claim CJ first, but since Dee is probably one of the few in their group with even a little bit of Tiny human experience, He'd probably end up taking care of CJ a lot and accidentally adopting him along the way. It would be a very adorable way of Dee following in his pop's footsteps : ) (and would give CJ a very good excuse to call Raphie Grandpops)
Thank you!
ROUGH'N SKETCHY FIBONACCI!
Again, I make em to thicc for tumblr to handle.
More practice with excessive glowiness, dynamic swooshes, COLOURS AND SHAPES and training myself to not associate digital drawing with perfectionism.
It's alllll practice. Can't git gud if you were never bad B)
There is an emerging rumour which is becoming quote popular that what happened all thoes years ago was that someone with a big grudge against Big Mama paid a witch to place a curse on the boys to make them "disappear". The witch did not have the heart to do that and instead turned them into turtles so that they wouldn't be recognised and left them outside the hidden city to be adopted by a lone kind rat-yokai.
I hope you have had a nice new years and enjoyed this lightly fairy tale inspired rumour mill update
That yokai rumor mill is just too wholesome for it's own good lol. I love it!
thank you! and i hope you had a good new years as well : )
Here’s the new 24 hour comic I drew this year! This one is called THE KING’S FOREST. cw: blood, violence
