Vocab from TTMIK Workbook Level 1
โก in korean, it is important to use the correct sentence structure, or your sentences may seem really confusing :
-> in english : Subject Verb Object -> in korean : Subject Object Verb
now, letโs look at some examples!
we are gonna use this simple sentence : โi bought a bookโ, in korean it would be : โi a book boughtโ
์ ๋ ์ฑ ์ ์์ด์ ์ฑ = book ์์ด์(past tense) from the verb ์ฌ๋ค = to buy itโs really different, right?
โ the object ALWAYS comes BEFORE the verb, and the verb is ALWAYS at the END of the sentence. โ
โก locations are also used BEFORE verbs :
โ์ ๋ ํ๊ต์ ๊ฐ์โ i go to school ํ๊ต = school ์= location particle (to) ๊ฐ์ (present tense) from the verb ๊ฐ๋ค = to go
โ์ ๋ ํ๊ต์์ ๊ณต๋ถํด์โ i study at school ํ๊ต = school ์์ = location particle (at) ๊ณต๋ถํด์ (present tense) from the verb ๊ณต๋ถํ๋ค = to study
โ์ ๋ ์ง์ ์ค์ด์โ i slept at home ์ง = home ์ = location particle (at) ์ค์ด์ (past tense) from the verb ์๋ค = to sleep
โ you can put the time before or after the subject though :
both of these sentences mean โtoday I will eat at homeโ :
before -> ์ค๋ ์ ๋ ์ง์์ ๋จน์ ๊ฑฐ์์ after -> ์ ๋ ์ค๋ ์ง์์ ๋จน์ ๊ฑฐ์์ ์ค๋ = today ์ง = home ์์ = location particle (at) ๋จน์ ๊ฑฐ์์ (future tense) from the verb ๋จน๋ค = to verb
โtomorrow, i will study at schoolโ before -> ๋ด์ผ ์ ๋ ํ๊ต์์ ๊ณต๋ถํ ๊ฑฐ์์ after -> ์ ๋ ๋ด์ผ ํ๊ต์์ ๊ณต๋ถํ ๊ฑฐ์์ ๋ด์ผ = tomorrow ํ๊ต = school ์์ = location particle (at) ๊ณต๋ถํ๋ค = to study ~ใน ๊ฑฐ์์ (future tense)
โก adverbs are added before verbs : ์ ๋ ์ด์ฌํ ๊ณต๋ถํด์ I study hard ์ด์ฌํ = hard
and finally, adjectives work the same way as they do in english! just put them before the noun they describe :
๋งค์ด ๋ผ๋ฉด = spicy ramen ๋งค์ด = spicy ๋ผ๋ฉด = ramen
์์ ์ฌ์ = beautiful woman ์์ = beautiful ์ฌ์ =ย woman
This is probably one of the most common questions that beginners ask when learning ํ๊ธ. Just like every beginner learners, I went through this as well which is why I decided to study pronunciation rules too. I created this post to help clear up any confusion.
When ใน is located at the beginning of a word, it sounds more like an R.
Example: ๋ผ๋์ค (ra-di-o), ๋ ์จ (re-seun), ๋ก๋งจํฑ (ro-man-tik)
When ใน is located between two vowels, it sounds like an R.
Example: ๋ค๋ฆฌ (da-ri), ์ฌ๋ (sa-rang), ์ด๋ ต๋ค (eo-ryeob-dda), ๋ชจ๋ฅด๋ค (mo-reu-da), ๋ ธ๋ ฅ (no-ryeok), ๋งค๋ ฅ (mae-ryeok)
When ใน is located at the end of a word, itโs pronounced more like an L.
Example: ๋ธ (ddal), ์๋ค (a-deul), ์ (weol), ๋ฌ (dal), ์นผ (khal), ์ฐํ (yeon-pil), ๊ต์ค (gyo-sil)
When ใน is followed by a consonant or followed by another ใน, it sounds like L.
Example: ๋ธ๊ธฐ (ddal-gi), ํ๋ค๋ค (him-deul-da), ๋ชฐ๋ผ (mol-la), ์ด์ (sal-ja), ๊ณ ๋ฆด๋ผ (go-ril-la)
When ใน comes after any consonant except ใด, ใน is pronounced as N.
Example: ์๋ฆฌ (saeng-ni), ๊ตญ๋ฆฝ (gung-nip), ๋ฅ๋ ฅ (neung-nyeok)
When ใน comes before or after an ใด, both ใน and ใด are pronounced as ใน.
Example: ํ๋ฅ (hal-lyu), ์ ๋ผ (sil-la), ์ ๋ (sil-lang), ๋ฌ๋๋ผ (dal-la-ra)
Disclaimer: Hope this helps but remember not to rely too much on romanizations and listen to the sounds properly as well.
This is a post that I shared on Amino app and I decided to post it here as well.
This has been on my mind for a while and as an ally of the LGBT community, I would like to express my gratitude. There is great bravery and courage in being who you are - with anyone really - but I cannot express enough how wonderful and amazing YOU are. I understand that I have a lot of people who identify as part of the LGBT community and I would like to say,
I am proud of you and I support you.
Youโve done well, youโve fought hard, and you live strong. Pride month is just around the corner (June), and to get you ready Iโve compiled a list of Korean LGBT+ Vocab for you to practice. Enjoy ~
