JD Headcanons

He was born in Ohio, just a larger city in Ohio.

They moved to Texas before he started school. 

As a kid before his mom died he was very active; running, jumping, climbing on trees and all that. He was speedy and hard to catch. But since he was very animated/loud a lot of kids were intimidated by him and he didn’t have too many close friends.

One of his fav activities with his mom was reading with her, she’d read to him and give him things to read. At a young age he was already at a pretty advanced reading level

His mom died when he was 10; at which point he became much quieter and closed off. 

After she died was when he started moving around, before then they’d been more or less stationary because JD could be left at home with his mom while his dad went off on business 

His relationship with his father is forged mostly out of severe neglect. His father wasn’t close to him as a kid- and then once his mom was dead then he had to raise him he didn’t know how to treat a kid. He raised JD based on the assumption that he was older than he actually was which put a lot of undue responsibility on him. 

Since his dad was never outright physically violent, if JD had lived it would have been a long time until he realized just how terrible he was to him. ((”Do you like your father” “I never gave the matter much thought”))

Due to moving as much as he did all through middle school and high school he didn’t have any friends. Kids made fun of him and bullied him until he learned to fight back at which point they left him alone.

Tired of being called into the principles office about it, his dad tried to enroll him in some martial arts classes. Since he wasn’t at a school long enough to actually join a team (where he’d likely do track)

Knows how to steal small things like candy easily.

He like pets, but can’t really have one due to moving save for a hamster which he  named Salinger. 

It wasn’t until Sherwood that they actually bought a house, before then it was mostly long term hotels. Sometimes with 2 rooms so he’d get his own, but usually his dad would have a room and he’d be on the pullout couch in the “living room” with a majority of their stuff in storage. 

He has severe depression, used self harm as an outlet for his anger starting around when he was 15 which is when he started wearing the trench coat. His father never noticed - just like he never noticed with his wife.

He would not have killed if the thing with Chandler hadn’t happened. It sent him on a spiral that he couldn’t come out of. Her death was an accident he expected her just to get really sick from.
