hey, so people need to be aware that youtube is now (randomly) holding basic features for ransom (such as being able to pin comments under your own videos) in exchange for Your State ID/Drivers License, or a 30 Second Video Of Your Face.

not to pull a "think of the children," but No Actually. I've been making videos as a hobby since 2015 (and I've had my channel since middle school), I was a minor when I started and I'm not sure I would have understood the kind of damage something a seemingly simple as a video of your face can do.

this is a Massive breach of privacy and over-reach on google's part No Matter What, but if they're going to randomly demand a state ID or license then they absolutely should not allow minors to be creators.

google having a stockpile of identifying information on teenagers is bad enough, but the Alternative of recording your face and handing it over to be filed away is Alarming considering it opens the gates for minors who Aren't old enough to have a license.

and yes, there is a third option, but it's intentionally obtuse. a long wait period (2 months), with no guarantee of access (unlike, say, the convenience of using your phone's cameras for either of the other two), with absolutely No elaboration on what the criteria is or how it's being measured.

something like pinned comments may seem simple, you don't technically Need it. but it's a feature that's been available for years. most people don't look at descriptions anymore. so when there's relevant information that needs to be delivered then the pinned comment is usually the go to.

for my little channel that information is about the niche series I create for. guides on how to get into the series, sources on where to find the content At All (and reliably so). for other creators it can be used for things Much More Important.

in light of a four day ceasefire in Gaza being agreed upon, i am once again asking you all not to lose sight of the big picture. Biden and the Israeli Government are trying to frame this as a major democratic victory and as a favor respectively. they have no intention of a total ceasefire. they have no intention of stopping their genocide. remember - a ceasefire is the very first step. it’s not even the bare minimum.

the absolute bare minimum in this situation is 1) a complete ceasefire and immediate humanitarian aid in Gaza, 2) complete halt of all military foreign aid to the Israeli government, 3) the Israeli government being prosecuted for its war crimes in the International Criminal Court, and 4) land back and reparations for the Palestinian people. free Palestine means free Palestine, not just temporarily stop carpet bombing Palestine.

a temporary ceasefire is something, but it’s not even close to the end goal. we cannot let up pressure when things seem to be looking up. keep protesting, boycotting, spreading awareness, contacting politicians, etcetera. keep your eyes on Gaza. free Palestine.

im expecting a lot of "pride month is over, now it's time for wrath month" posts. that's cool and all. but july is disability pride month.

pride month is when you're SUPPOSED to be angry. it's a celebration AND a riot. that was the best time to get angry. second best time is now. but it's not wrath month. let disabled people have this.

please get angry with us. please fight with us! we are both losing our rights, if we ever even had them to begin with. please don't talk over us, especially during our own pride month.

it's kind of upsetting how little research antis want to put into their arguments. darkfic/proship content is not an unhealthy coping mechanism, and never will be, and sharing that content with others isn't unhealthy, either; it's a way to share experiences and thoughts and combat the isolation and general feeling of "i'm the only one that's been through this, so therefore i am gross/'messed up'," that comes with trauma (and specifically sexual trauma). reading and writing my own darkfic exploring some of the shit i went through/things similar did far more for my recovery than bottling everything up and keeping it to myself ever did, and it was certainly a better alternative to the actually unhealthy coping mechanisms i've used. (well... unless the fifteen year olds want to argue with several professionals, anyway.)

plus, telling proshippers who create content to vent that a) their thoughts are wrong, and b) they shouldn't be sharing those thoughts with other people because "they'll hurt minors," or "they're gross," just feels so icky. forgive me if this is too bold a claim for fuckin tumblr drama, but it parallels a lot of things people who seriously fucked me up have said while they were fucking me up, because things like that rely on the victim feeling guilty, ashamed, and most importantly staying isolated and quiet. Spouting out poorly-researched claims like this and pushing what is essentially a puritan moral code onto everyone around you, even in the name of "protecting minors and survivors," is doing WAY more harm than good.

but... what i say doesn't matter, does it? we don't really count as survivors unless we stay quiet and alone, just like antis want, right? eat my dick.
