So, there's apparently research coming out now about microplastics being found in people's bloodstreams and the possible negative effects of that and I feel the need to get out ahead of the wave of corporate sponsored "be sure to recycle your bottles!" or "ban glitter!" campaigns and remind everyone: It's fishing nets. It's fishing nets. It is overwhelming fishing nets It always has been fishing nets. Unless regulations are changed, it will continue to be fishing nets. The plastic in the ocean in largely discarded nets from industrial fishing. The microplastics are the result of these nets breaking down. The "trash islands" are also, you guessed it. Mostly fishing nets and other discarded fishing industry equipment. Do not allow them to continue to twist the story. Do not come after disabled people who require single use plastics. Do not come after people using glitter in art projects and makeup. These things make up a negligible amount of the issue compared to corporate waste, specifically in the fishing industry. Do not let them shift the blame to the individual so they can continue to destroy the planet and our bodies without regulation.
Monkey island!!
I would be honored to share with the class, gather round... i suppose??
To be honest, I’m excited to have a new monkey island game come out this year (hopefully!) The first trailer felt like a good sign and the second trailer just kept giving me the same giddy feeling. There’s a lot of talk and suspecting of what the new game is going to contain. I see a lot of people and where their attitudes lie on this new entry. It’s interesting and I think I can understand their skepticism, but I’m just excited.
Seriously, I heard the theme and guybrush’s voice and I couldn’t help but start grinning like an idiot.
side note: sad that this is the last day of Monkey Island appreciation week but, I raise my bottle of grog to next year’s week of Monkey Island! Cheers!
Fuck off! It’s Thursday! Don’t Forget to submerge yourself in a false persona and forget who you truly are!
*dies*
If you dare come at me about banning straws, I will throw you into the sun cannon. I’m disabled, I’m crippled, I need disposable plastic straws, and all those pricey ridiculous alternatives aren’t working as well. Plastic straws were invented for the disabled.
Way to shit all over a vital access need because you think straws are worse than corporate greed.
We all care about the turtles, the seals, the oceans, obviously. Notice how the easiest thing to yell about was something that would barely affect anything but appealed heavily to emotional discourse.
The disabled community is huge, and it can be joined by anyone. Most of those As Seen On TV products were invented for us. Society still mocks us and ignores us, and often outright harms us in multiple ways.
Communicate better. Listen better. But stop putting us out in the cold because you are inconvenienced by our simplest needs.
For a minimum donation of $10 you will receive hundreds of games valued at over $6,000
Over 700 creators have joined in support to donate their work. All proceeds from this bundle will be split between the following charities:
International Medical Corps provides medical assistance in the region. They have very low fundraising overhead (1% of income), with 89% of donations going to medical aid and 10% to administration.
Voices of Children, a Ukrainian organization that helps children cope with the horrors of war, PTSD, readjusting to school, and getting back to being kids. They have also been doing a lot of grassroots impromptu work during the war, such as helping set up shelters. Our hope is that this war will be over soon, and they can begin the work of healing these kids’ hearts.
