In light of the recent episode of TBHX, I would like to redact this statement from here on out with my genuine and deepest apology.
I am almost done with my revamp of my Oracleâs superhero costume, but I wanted to do this chart real quick. Making her Awkwardness level so high is just so endearingly hilarious because She constantly jumps whenever Nik sneaks up on her at her desk and sheâs fumbling to play it cool. Not the best play it close to the vest, but she tries.
Also fun notes: Her name is closely related to Apollo and Delphi. âLaurieâ refers to âlaurelâ or âsweet bay treeâ which are one of the sacred symbols Apollo, while her last name âKastriâ is in reference to the Greek village that was formed above the ruins of the ancient site of Delphi.
( I am a Greek Myth nerd, so when I saw my chance I took it XD )
break up your paragraphs. big paragraphs are scary, your readers will get scared
fuuuuck epithets. âthe other man got upâ âthe taller woman sat downâ âthe blonde walked awayâ nahhh. call them by their names or rework the sentence. you can do so much better than this (exception: if the reader doesnât know the character(s) youâre referring to yet, itâs a-okay to refer to them by an identifying trait)
blunette is not a thing
new speaker, new paragraph. please.
âsaidâ is such a great word. use it. make sweet love to it. but donât kill it
use âsaidâ more than you use synonyms for it. that way the use of synonyms gets more exciting. getting a sudden description of how a character is saying something (screaming, mumbling, sighing) is more interesting that way.
if your summary says âI suck at summariesâ or âstory better than summaryâ youâre turning off the reader, my dude. your summary is supposed to be your hook. you gotta own it, just like youâre gonna own the story theyâre about to read
follow long sentences w short ones and short ones w long ones. same goes for paragraphs
your writing is always better than you think it is. you just think itâs bad because the storyâs always gonna be predicable to the one whoâs writing it
i love u guys keep on trucking
You seem to be well-versed with superhero comics
Gotta have to ask, is there a hero with no tragic background?
It just spins in my head after I read that LH0's concept for Hero X is a "new type of hero" who doesn't have a tragic background to enjoy what he does
And I kept thinking, "There has to be a superhero with no tragic backstory right?" And I can't think of one!
The closest would be Superman, and that's a thin line because he was only a baby when his whole planet is destroyed, and only learn about his origin later in life.
Other that, the other close example would be Danny Phantom and Kim Possible. They're not comic superhero and more of a children superhero. But the selling point about them has always been that they're normal teens who happens to take up superheroing.
I don't know. I'm only into a few niche superheroes. So I feel a bit ignorant asking this. But still, can't hurt to ask.
Hmmm...*reflecting on my existing comic knowledge*
While there are more Heroes with Tragic backstories than there are NONE, usually the ones that donât have the tragic stuff ( or burdens) when they become the Hero. (Ex. Kyle Rayner from Green Lantern, Spidermen Variants, Invincible, etc. )
But going by LHO statement, in comics, I'd say Gwenpool and the Beyonder.
Cause in comic Origin, Gwenpool lived in our universe where superheroes and villains were just fictional characters and she just inexplicably manifested into the Marvel Universe. After that she just pushed herself not to be an "extra", who became a mercenary with Deadpool powers then later became a member of the West Coast Avengers.
As for the Beyonder....He is cosmic reality bending multiversal being who was accidentally released by a failed science experiment. He mostly plays as an observant of Earth and occasional instigator of heroes and villains to see who is the most powerful. But in most versions of him (and them), his main drive is the fascination and want to understand the concept of "desire" and human nature.
Though both of them are on different spectrums of heroics and morality, I think they share the same "we just exist and we're just gonna do" energy.
I assume Hero X is similar that way, in that he probably appeared out of nowhere out of general curiosity, and wants to test the limits of what really makes a hero and how their desire to be one push them further?
Supercarrier: fandom flagship. Â Everybody and their dog ships it. Â The fandom is glutted with artwork and fic. Â You cannot escape this ship.
Dreadnought: massively popular. Â Nearly everybody ships it. Â You can, with dedication, in theory, reach the end of the AO3 archive for the shipâs tag, but itâll take a long time.
Cruiser: pretty popular ship. Â Not everyone ships it, but everyone knows about it. Â Has a good amount of fic/art, and probably multiple ask blogs.
Frigate: just plain popular. Â Feels like it could use more fanworks. Â New people to the fandom might not know about it, but theyâll stumble across it sooner rather than later.
Gunboat: bit of a rarepair. Â It might have an ask blog or two. Â A couple big name fans ship it. Â Probably only takes a few weeks to get through the entire AO3 backlog, and one new fic gets added during that time.
Tugboat: rarepair. Â Almost never seen except as a side pairing to a more popular ship. Â You can usually get through everything on AO3 in a matter of days. Â Youâve forgotten what it is to be picky about what you read.
Rowboat: less than a dozen people ship it. Â You all know each other. Â You exist in an endless cycle of the same five people desperately producing art and fic and one person who constantly contributes headcanons.
Canoe: you are one of maybe three people who ship it, and thereâs a not-insignificant chance youâve never encountered those other two hypothetical shippers.  You spend your days paddling furiously in hopes of keeping the ship afloat, dreaming of the day you upgrade to a rowboat so you can finally rest.
