This was how I pictured him in this AU 🤸

36 year old KRS taking all his savings and buying a farm in a town in the middle of nowhere.

His line of work was a dangerous one, being a bodyguard for high-profile clients

After a job where KRS was blinded in one eye, he took the compensation money and his savings and quit.

His idea was to buy a small, nice house in a town far from the city. But LSH and CJS convinced him that he should buy a couple of acres and make it a farm. Their argument was something about how he should keep himself busy with something to avoid getting into trouble.

Bullshit. If you ask him. But they made him promise that after a three-hour session of them yapping, he only managed to convince them to buy something smaller. There is still a lot of space for only one person (for now)

They made him promise that once they retire, he would give them a room at the farm. KRS sometimes wonders why they tend to ask obvious questions.

The land was acquired at a low price due to its condition: weeds everywhere, rocks, and a two-story old wooden house with leaks.

He wouldn't have bought it if it weren't for the fact that the previous owner had told him he had completely redone the plumbing and wiring a few years earlier.

The only thing Roksoo carried with him when he arrived at his new residence was a bag with clothes and another with his few precious belongings: books, a coffee machine that his coworkers gave him for his birthday, and his pillow.

The moment he set foot on his new property, Roksoo kind of regretted it all because of the work the property needed. He was aware of the condition of the house when he moved in, but for some reason he thought it would be easy. Never again.

He blames LSH and CJS for putting ideas in his head about moving to a farm; this wasn't his idea about living like a slacker. He could do nothing but sigh and enter the house.

The first step creaked as he walked on it; he avoided stepping on the second one, which was obviously rotten. The board on the third and final step creaked and broke. KRS cursed and fell into the hole. He had scratches all over his calf when he managed to get his leg out of the hole.

KRS wondered if he should have been less stingy when it came to shelling out money to buy the property. It's not like he couldn't afford it; he wasn't as rich as he would have liked to be, but he wasn't lacking either.

There was nothing he could do now, so he simply sighed again and opened the creaking door. A cloud of dust made him cough and step back.

KRS mentally thanks the previous owner, who was kind enough to leave him his old tools in the shed. He left his bags on the floor and went to look for a broom to clean the interior to make it minimally habitable for the night.

So I just had a thought...

Dean had to be "normal". He had to act like he was boringly stereotypically normal to everyone.

He had to act like he hated reading and classic stories because you didn't need those for hunting. And he certainly didn't need those at school where he would be branded the weird kid on day number one. And little 6 year old Dean couldn't do that. Because unlike Sammy, Dean had no one to stand up for him at school. He could beat the first graders, sure. But what about their older siblings? Dean had no support at school. He couldn't even talk about how adorable his baby brother was because that would be weird too.

By the time Sam is old enough to understand what is going on around him, Dean has already crafted this perfect "stereotypical male american" persona and rolls with it on every turn. Because he feels he has to.

And now, I bring you this: what if Mary lived and they grew up normal?

Because let me tell you, this time Dean has all the support at school. An upperclassman shoves him a bit too harshly? You gonna bet Mary Winchester will be there the next day bringing hell down on the poor boy. Mary is the ultimate soccer mom but she's scary. She builds up such a reputation that no-one dares touch Dean.

So Dean gets to be geeky and overly obsessed with TV series and books and whatever else he finds.

Sam, getting double the defence (both from Mary and Dean) grows up to be the biggest nerd possible.

Mary has them sitting on the kitchen table talking and she can only understand half of what they are saying. Dean is going on a tirade about a movie that had ONE scene about a sea elephant and Sam has brought out a whole book on sea elephants and is trying to prove that the movie is inaccurate. But Dean insists that within the supernatural confines of the movie it's accurate. And they are having a full blown scientific debate about it and Mary is just standing there cleaning the dishes and thinking about that one sea elephant pagan god she killed twenty years ago and is biting her lips because she wants to tell them about the funny story but can't.

Not because the kids don't know about monsters. She told both of them when Sam turned 10. But she can't find enough leeway to interrupt because the boys' conversation just keeps escapating and now Dean is stomping on the kitchen table and Sam is throwing the heavy book on Dean's head and Mary has to stop them but loves watching them fight.

When John comes home an hour later, Dean has a big bump on his head as he has Sam pushed down against the coach and Mary is holding onto the door frame of the living room wheezing. He rolls his eyes like this happens every day, seperates the boys and solves the whole scientific debate by a whomping: "I will take you to see a sea elephant" before stomping off to his room to change clothes.

Mary is seriously considering buying a videocamera and recording.

Ron, talking to the kids: Never break someone's heart, they only have one of those. Break their bones instead, they have 206 of them.

On: *nods violently*

Hong: *taking notes*

Raon: But first, you must steal their gold!

Cale, who just happened to be close enough to hear: *sweating*

I love this man. He breaks my heart every time.

I wanted to talk a bit about how TCF is the kind of story where you have to pay attention.

For example, Cale is almost always described as uncaring. Stoic. Almost all his smiles are scammer smiles.

And yet...

Mary said this:

She said it in an innocent way because she was an innocent person. ‘That person is always looking at everything.’ He was meticulously caressing all of his group’s pains. He may come off as indifferent, but it was always done in a gentle way. His heart seemed to be as tall as a mountain. He had healed Mary’s pain that way as well.

We saw this even earlier, though I'll cut the irrelevant parts to make it more clear:

Cale nodded his head at Hans’s statement while observing Choi Han. He had a nostalgic look in his eyes. ...

Cale started to frown as he called Choi Han over. “Choi Han.” “…Yes?” “Hurry back.” .... “Yes sir. I will be right back.” Cale motioned as if he was annoyed, but Choi Han bowed before quickly starting to walk toward the village with Hans. Cale, who preferred this focused Choi Han to the one who had a blank expression, continued to watch him before suddenly starting to frown.

Cale is always paying attention to the people around him, and even when he says he doesn't care, he's always paying attention to the people around him. To their moods and needs.

Which they see and recognizes. Mary's not the only one who has said something about that.

Or who mentions Cale's facial expressions when dealing with death. They can tell that Cale does everything he can to preserve life, and even when it's enemy dead, even when he chose to fight, it still noticeably affects him. Like here, after he led the fight at sea against the northern invasion.

Choi Han called out toward Cale as the representative. He could see the ocean that Cale was currently looking at. There were corpses floating up next to the debris. Choi Han slowly approached Cale. He could see the frown on Cale’s face. ‘…He really has a soft heart.’ Cale started to speak. “How peaceful.” His voice sounded tired. Fatigue was evident in every word he spoke. Everybody became quiet after hearing Cale’s tone. Although he had said something nice, the weight and sorrow in his voice made them all shut up.

I also suspect Cale isn't nearly as good at controlling his facial expressions, as at least one character indicated he was an open book.

Or maybe that's just when Cale isn't trying to scam someone or hide his feelings.

Part of what I find fascinating about this story is that there's all these little things indicating that the primary impression is... Only part of the story.
