Happy Birthday, The Birds!

Good evening! On this day in 1963, The Birds flew into theaters! Hitchcock’s tale of avian atrocity is often considered to be the Master of Suspense’s last truly great film and one of the finest Ho-rror pictures ever made. The Birds takes the relatively absurd concept of mass bird attacks and turns it into an shocking exercise in pure cinematic terror. The mundane becomes monstrous and fine-feathered friends become fiends. Scored only with the hideous squeals of the winged beasts and brimming with terrible suspense, Hitchcock’s  film is the ultimate nerve-killer.  Despite decades of rip-offs and parodies, The Birds still remains a macabre masterwork from a macabre master. And that’s nothing to squawk at!
