When an Affini outpost and the object of Phoebe's spy assignment for the Rebellion turns out to be an elaborate "floret-run" hotel, she begins to wonder if she's in over her head.

Grand Folia Hotel is a fic I feel downright unqualified to speak about, because it's just downright incredible. The setting is lush and richly realized, Celosia is a terrifying and enticing force of nature, and chapter 10 hits like a goddamn freight train. The fic feels downright platonic in a way. Like, if one were to wish for an ideal version of an HDG story, a kindly genie might produce something that looks an awful lot like Grand Folia Hotel. I lack the expertise on Wes Anderson to say if the name is more than simply a cute play on words, but it would not surprise me.

i’m evolved i think pda is actually a good and fine thing even when straight people do it but especially when gay people do. it’s nice to see love in public don’t be a hater grab a loved one and smooch them in line for your pretzel bites or something

It's kind of based on priorities and thought process, I guess? The point of a thumbtack-braid is to make them stop, and pain is just a side effect. The point of punishing someone is to hurt them, regardless of whether it makes them stop.

I'm flat out tired of seeing actual reputable news sources, real actual companies, and living, sentient people talking about investment in AI. Does nobody understand what this technology actually is.

my understanding is that large language models basically construct statistically likely combinations of words based upon enormous, sprawling aggregations of statistical data drawn from basically all written text on the entire internet. I've read a million articles explaining how AI works and I never learn anything new from them.

But I still feel like I'm constantly missing something because everybody seems to expect that in the near future chatGPT is going to like, transfigure into something other than a chatbot that aggregates an exceptionally large amount of information about how language tends to be constructed.

Something that I think should be an important part of solarpunk aesthetics is screws.

Look at your smartphone. No screws. You've got to have specialized tools to get inside your phone to repair something. There are certain pieces of tech that are glued in place and glue can't be undone without permanently breaking the bond.

But screws!

You can take apart a broken old radio, repair what's broken, and, if you were careful in taking it apart, you can put it back together and have a fully functioning radio and all you need is a common screwdriver!

It's hard to build screws and other mechanical fasteners because it requires more planning than clamps and glues, but isn't that what solarpunk is all about‽ It's about care and sustainability and and a radio or a computer built carefully with repair in mind is a sustainable computer that stays out of landfills and in use.

The oldest reactionary rhetorical sleight of hand in the book is to identify something widely thought as distasteful, to go "this thing is Morally Wrong" and then not feel the need to explicitly say "that's why people need to be punished for doing it", just leave that as the obvious consequence and, in never Saying it, they never have to explain how guilt or innocence is established or any dialogue around what an appropriate, proportional response to said Taboo Behaviour might be.

Once you start recognizing it as the sleight of hand it is it's impossible to miss.

There should totally be a movement called “Sleep in Public” where people defend their right to sleep on public property. Sleep in your cars. Sleep on benches. Sleep at the park. Just make it a mundane and regular part of life to see someone napping in the library. It would make it much harder to single out the homeless for harassment if everyone else is doing the same thing and much harder to argue that it’s a “threat to public safety” when it’s so clearly harmless.

In the continued effort to sexualize autism. Consider the intersection of free use and autistic joy.

A group of butches running a train on a cute sub as she infodumps to them, only pausing to orgasm or get some water, occasionally getting her helpful reminders of her last point when butch cock knocks her train of thought off course.

Comfy gloryholes that restrain a sub’s mouth and hips so they can be fucked on both sides, but leave their hands free to stim on some nice fluffy material, always in reach. A wall of sluts with the ambient sounds of babbling echolalia and slurping/gagging.

A nonverbal free use slut in a comfy hoodie and an easy pamphlet of do’s and don’ts for any takers, silently shifting down their sweats and presenting their holes for their current public partner, getting fucked against the wall of an alley or railed over a table in just the way they like without needing to say a word. And of course, comfy hoodie stays on during gangbangs.
