Kleytos literally is jumping across the room right now with that idea (I didn't know that Parasaurolophus could jump...)

A small, fun idea some folks on discord came up with - I declare August 13th as project as an instinct animal day, on which day those who want to participate will project their daemons as an extinct or multiple extinct animals 🦣🦖

Animorphs Battle Markings AU

This was actually an AU I came up with quite a while back but haven’t gotten time to develop.

The premise is that in canon Animorphs (including Ax, and also any other morph-capable beings) don’t develop physical scars on their natural form from battle wounds received in morph. But in this AU, any injuries they receive in morph appear as skin discoloration/marks/conditions in their natural form.

Rachel and Jake develop freckles.

Marco’s skin peels.

Cassie has discoloration.

Tobias develops striping/speckles on his feathers.

Ax’s fur brightens and spots (and this happens with all Andalites).

As all scars, these marks can and will fade. But with their constant battling, it always comes back. Some of the more severe injuries leave very permanent/long lasting marks.

some ideas for non-verbal spell casting:

so i’m a pretty quiet person irl, and i find a lot of spellbooks and posts on here include verbalization in the form of incantations, mantras, et cetera.

which is all well and good if that works for you, whatever floats your boat and casts your spell; but what if you’re like me and verbalizations make you uncomfortable?

or you’re practicing late at night while your housemates are asleep?

or you just. prefer to not speak?

well, here are some alternatives!

say your incantation internally

visualize your incantation

make your incantation physical (could you add movement/gestures to your spell?)

make it symbolic (breaking something, binding something, burying it?)

use a noisemaker! (eg. a bell, clap, a song, note, chord, etc)

simply do without! not every spell or ritual needs a verbal component, and maybe you’re just not that kind of practitioner. that’s okay!

i’m sure there are tons of things that i’ve left off or forgotten, and i definitely want to hear more ideas if you have them!

wind be with you!

7 Virtues of Hellenism.

Xenia - This is the pillar that signifies hospitality, generosity and reciprocity. It's typically demonstrated in a guest/host dynamic.

Kharis - This is the pillar that signifies appreciation and gratitude. It entails giving to the gods and and expressing gratitude when you receive something from them.

Eusebia - This is the pillar that signifies reverence and veneration towards the gods. It can be translated to 'piety' or 'reverant conduct' meaning that you show respect for them.

Hagneia - This is the pillar that signifies purifying yourself. It entails having moral, perhaps physical too, purity and avoiding miasma where possible.

Arete - This is the pillar that signifies excellence and brilliance. It entails trying to reach your highest potential and this can be in any field.

Sophia - This is the pillar that signifies the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.

Sophrosyne - This is the pillar that signifies self-control and prudence. It involves being of sound mind and remaining balanced, which can further lead to other positive qualities to have.

I hope these are right and that I didn't misunderstand their meanings! Hopefully this is useful to anyone, I certainly enjoyed making the post!

I absolutely love the concept of having a hdm!daemon but honestly? The one thing I can’t agree with is the taboo of daemon touching. It would simply be too much of a problem in society.

It would be extremely hard not to touch a daemon in areas where there are lots of people and little space. People bump into each other all the time on the street, in hallways, in trains and subways, etc. In Japan, people value personal a lot, and yet even there people squish together in trains or run into each other while crossing the street. If touching a daemon was the equivalent of rape, rape rates would go up drastically. Not to mention, big daemons would have an especially hard time because of all of the space they take up. What if you and your daemon have a big family but live in a small house? Even worse, what if all your family members have big daemons? You could argue that you could just move to a bigger house, but what if you can’t afford it?

Also, what happens if you trip or faint and accidentally touch a daemon? What if you and your daemon need to be carried to safety, but no daemon is big enough to carry yours away? What, you and them would just be left to die?

I think that if daemons did exist, an unwanted touch would simply feel uncomfortable but not traumatizing (unless the intention was bad). If daemons are your soul, your “true self”, then I suppose it would sort of feel like someone learning something deeply personal about you. Depending on how open you are or what culture you’re from, it can be either seen as rude and intrusive or normal and not a big deal. Accidental touching would be pretty normal, and while most people would dislike it, others wouldn’t care much. People touching your daemon to remove them from a dangerous situation would also be normal and expected, even if most would find it uncomfortable. I also think that it would be somewhat normal for family members and close friends to touch your daemon, although there would be exceptions.

HDM: 1x03 - The Spies

Ma Costa is a gem.

Until episode 3, we didn’t know much about her, apart from the fact that she is Billy Costa’s mom, that his disappearance shattered her and that there’s no way in hell she’s gonna stop looking for her son. When the Gyptians rescued Lyra and brought her to their boats, Ma Costa took upon herself to look after Lyra. Her generous and nurturing spirit immediately kicked in and she acted like a surrogate mother, which is ironical because Lyra never had a mom until now.

There’s a distinct opposition between Mrs. Coulter and Ma Costa throughout this episode. Where Ma Costa is soft and warm, Mrs. Coulter is tough and cold. Ma Costa encourages Lyra to make choices and encourages her to be whoever she wants to be whereas Mrs. Coulter forced her will on Lyra and tried to turn into a smaller version of herself, with the hair and the dresses. A perfect copy.

Ma Costa tried to earn Lyra’s trust by telling her the truth about her mother. Mrs. Coulter constantly lied until she blurted out a truth because Lyra got under her skin and she lost control. Mrs. Coulter wished for Lyra to be quiet and to fully obey her and physically assaulted Lyra when she didn’t obtain obedience. Ma Costa gave Lyra the opportunity to speak, to yell, to let out her emotions and to express her feelings without resorting to punishment. Ma Costa allowed Lyra to keep her agency while Mrs. Coulter wanted to rob her of it.

Ma Costa was able to reclaim her status as a nurse/caretaker for Lyra almost immediately, while Mrs. Coulter was unable to act like a proper caretaker/mother because it was never in her nature. She failed Lyra where Ma Costa succeeded.

Ma Costa and Mrs. Coulter share similarities in their desperate quest to find their respective child. Ma Costa understands the length Mrs. Coulter would go for Lyra because she would do the same for Billy. However, while Ma Costa’s love may be pure, Mrs. Coulter’s seems to be rooted in toxicity. Ma Costa’s love doesn’t consume her. She is still a functional and stable person. She has people to support her and to keep her on the right path.

In this episode, we see Mrs. Coulter slowly heading toward a downward spiral.  There’s a sense of hopelessness, frustration, and anger that surround her. She has no friends and no family, she drinks while wearing her pyjamas and is feeling suicidal. Control is slipping out of her grasp, but she ultimately remains mission-oriented and is set on getting Lyra back.

We can also point out certain differences between the Gyptians and Mrs. Coulter. The Gyptians live in very small spaces where everything is compressed together which differs from the spacious apartment where Mrs. Coulter lives. However, there is this idea of tight places bringing people together, like a community, a family while Mrs. Coulter is all alone in her home with a daemon she keeps abusing. The Gyptians are seen in the daylights with the vast nature surrounding them. The whole setting allows Lyra (and the audience) to breathe, to appreciate the renewed freedom. In comparison, Mrs. Coulter’s apartment, in a certain way, feels oppressing and suffocating with the bright, almost blinding colors and the monkey constantly lurking around.

I love what they did with Ma Costa and I’m hoping to see more of her in the future episodes.

PS: I didn’t talk about John and Will Parry because just thinking about them makes me go into full screaming mode. I’m far too excited for Will, I can’t think properly.

Everyday Worship: Poseidon

Go litter picking on the beach and clean any rubbish I take on a day there.

Spend time in the ocean just hanging out.

Go rock pooling and collect seaweed to identify

Respect and campaign for the ocean.

Promote awareness of the dangers of swimming in the ocean and respect for the flag system.

Be nice to seagulls and give them little treats of my own food.

Rescue seagull chicks when they fall off the roof.

Learn and continue to learn about my local coastal ecosystem!
