i'm actually devastated that this film about artist exploitation was "remastered" using AI. several scenes did look good but those were few and far between and absolutely did not make up for the blatant AI oversmoothing, eye/face fuckery, etc. i mean i'm glad i got to see it on the big screen and all but i wish they had shown the 200px version you used to be able to watch on youtube.

just gonna plug this fan restoration here - dr. saperstein restores a lot of original footage and uncensors those ugly bird mattes throughout the film, which were edited in last-minute to conceal any trace of the "Swan Song" label (of which Death Records is a subsidiary), as the copyright for Swan Song Records was nabbed by Led Zeppelin a mere five months before the film's release.

The restoration itself has some video editing/color grading issues but they're not too hard to get past

UPDATE update: coughing fits worsened. went to the hospital. got a chest x-ray, no sign of pneumonia. been put on antibiotics, so that's good at least. but now everything's pitched UP a few cents and tone quality is affected whereas it wasn't before, everything on my right has gone from being muffled to sounding like a shitty bitcrushed mp3 >:'D

been in zombie mode for what feels like eons but this is just the rotten egg icing on the sardine cake. at least it's not covid but it is swine flu which is Not Fun Either. everyone else in my family is on the mend
