ATSUMU immediately crouches down in front of you, rubbing his hands over your knees in a way of silently asking you what‘s wrong. He nods slowly as you recount it, never once stopping his hands from moving, slowly but surely warming your shaking figure. When you start to calm down he opens his arms for you, pulling you close and starts telling you random stories and jokes in hopes of distracting you. Atsumu doesn’t want to let go of you, throwing all of his plans away and decides to not leave your side for the rest of the day.

BOKUTO stops in his tracks as he sees the tears flowing over your cheeks. He doesn’t hesitate to rush over to you and engulf you in an almost bone-crushing hug, slightly swaying both of your bodies back and forth. Bokuto hates that sad, hurtful look on your face, so he does his best to cheer you up as soon as you calmed down a bit. Whispering sweet words of affirmation to you, pressing small kisses on your forehead as he cuddles you, beaming with excitement as he shares some stories, desperate to make you laugh again.

IWAIZUMI presses his lips together as he moves closer to you, sitting down next to you. He is nervous, doesn’t really know what to do. It’s not like he didn’t want to comfort you, he simply wasn’t sure how, afraid that he might make everything worse. Yet all of his concerns fade away as you put your head on his shoulder, allowing yourself to cry into him. Iwaizumi immediately throws an arm around you, pulling you closer to him. He is quiet, only occasionally muttering a few words, praises and affirmations. After a while he gets up, wrapping you in a blanket before pulling you into his lap, pressing soft kisses on your shoulders, neck and cheeks.

KAGEYAMA frowns, blinking in confusion. Why are you crying? What happened? He calls out for you after a few moments, slowly making his way over to you as you stare at him with teary eyes. To be frank, he doesn’t really know what to do or what to say, so he only swiftly throws an arm around your shoulder, softly patting your back. Kageyama isn’t prepared for you to throw your arms around him, pressing your face into him. But he doesn’t stop you, instead only rubbing your back as you cry into his chest.

SUNA doesn’t say anything as he sees you, instead immediately pulling you up to your feet, silently leading you to the nearest surface - a bed, chair, couch, anything. Sitting down, he pulls you into his lap, your arms swinging around him as he pushes you into his chest, letting you cry everything out. Suna hates seeing you so sad and vulnerable and moreover, he knows that you hate it too. So he does his best to shield you from everything and everyone, allowing you to have your walls down and let everything out. He stays silent, soft touches reminding you of his presence as you cling onto him.

mmm since we’ve been researching this the past few days: (putting them in simplest terms)

mania - a period of being unstably elated to the point you may need to be hospitalized (a manic episode is usually a week or more). this may include not sleeping, engaging in dangerous behaviors, having extreme trouble focusing, and everything listed in hypomania

bipolar disorder - a disorder where you have at least one manic episode and depressive episode with in your life. usually a (hypo)manic episode is followed by a depressive episode. (bipolar 1 is full mania and bipolar 2 is hypomania)

depression - a condition characterized by feeling sad, losing interest and motivation, changes in appetite, changes in sleep, and brain fog for at least two weeks

there’s something so bittersweet and lovely about fanfic, at it’s core. it’s so impermeable, because it’s so individual. fics don’t get finished. fics get lost because they were typed out and sent to friends, in the 70s, and somewhere along the way someone packed it up in a cardboard box and their kids shuffled it to the attic. websites go down. archives get built, but then people lose faith in the story or the canon or the creator and delete them. you read it at like, 3am, and can’t remember the title months later when you look for it again.

the tiktok these comments are from was lamenting about the loss of a favourite fic—it (the tiktok) had 85k+ likes, and over 700 comments, mostly similar to these. people talking about downloading fics to read on a tablet only for them to disappear the next day. using the wayback machine and combing through results, just to find something they loved. i think it’s sweet because it’s so human—how easily we love something, and how easily we lose it. i used to print out my favourite fics, as a kid—i still have a binder of them, buried under yearbooks and the old journals i kept during those topsy turvy preteen years. i could tell you the overarching plot to a Cardcaptor Sakura fantasy AU i read (and loved; it became my personality for months afterwards) but i can’t remember how it ended, or if it even did. i finally broke down and signed up for an account on AO3 specifically to bookmark an old, old fic that i had read somewhere else, years and years and years ago and found again on AO3 only because i accidentally stumbled on the author here on tumblr (i had only found the fic in the first place all those years ago because of a playlist). i used the same shade of lipstick for years purely because a fic i really liked had the main character apply it (it was a limited edition one at the time; i bought my first one from a ebay seller in the UK at double the retail price, lmao) while the love interest watched them, but i can’t remember the name of it, only how it made me feel (and how, for years afterwards, i would wear that shade whenever i felt like the day had something promising to it).

one of the first anon’s i ever got, in the early days of this tumblr, was someone who asked me if it was okay if they downloaded surrender—and of course it was. of course it is. there was a point, during the final stretch when i was trying to write the last chapter, that i almost lost the entirety of what i had written for that fic—and i mean, it was on AO3 by that stage so it would’ve only set me back a chapter or so, but it goes to show how fragile things can be. how sometimes fics only last in tiny ways—because of the unfinished PDF file someone downloads. The patchy memory of someone’s who’s jumbling it and three other fics together. Because someone wore the same shade of lipstick you mentioned, off-hand, for years afterwards.

(this is a love letter to the silent readers; the silent savers. the lurkers. fandom and the internet at large is made of lurkers (eighty-five thousand likes. seven hundred comments). people who saved fics and waybacked them and will reread them, even uncompleted. telling each other we did a good job, that we liked this or we liked that is wonderful, and fun, and a great (and important) way to build a community and has also given me my current friends—but sometimes something you make will matter and live on in a way you will never, ever know. and it’s just how it is. it’s part of the fun and it’s part of the charm. it’s just how we work as people.)

poor, precious kageyama tobio who is so clueless in matters of love and how to 'woo' someone (that's the word his mother used when he asked), that he resorted to ask the members of the volleyball club.

the only useful advice kageyama tobio got was from sugawara, asahi and daichi, who told him to 'just be himself', because even though he's 'prickly on the edges', he's naturally a kind and reassuring person.

kageyama tobio who tries his best to spend as much time as possible with you, whether it be asking to tag along with you everywhere- to the school office, to the vending machines, to your locker, etc. it's the little moments that really count to him.

kageyama tobio who gets flustered whenever hinata, tanaka or nishinoya teases him about his little crush on you before telling them to 'shut up, idiot!' when they jokingly say 'man up and grow some balls!'

semi eita, who huffs in amusement when you draw on his skin and you stop, thinking he doesn't like it, but he compliments the little smiley face you've drawn and you beam at him, your smile making him internally panic just a little. he draws a matching smiley face on your hand.

his features make his gaze look naturally intense and determined and he's aware of how this might scare some people, but with you, semi eita tries to look as gentle as possible, because he doesn't want to scare you off.

he's an incredible listener, but semi eita always has something to add to the conversation and it's easy to keep talking with him.

after that, semi eita isn't as shy about physical contact- granted, he still asks for permission, but he'll take your hand in his without realising. first time he did so, you were incredibly flustered and when he notices that he's holding your hand, he also becomes incredibly flustered. it's a mess because you're both spluttering words, flushed in the face.

you've definitely compared hand sizes together and semi eita loves it so much that he just does it whenever, smirking at the difference.

gestures of affection occur naturally. it's common for semi eita to greet you with a welcoming hug when he sees you at the start of the day, you'll hold on to his shoulder to get his attention and he'll drape his arm over your shoulder when you're walking somewhere.

it's so natural, that when you and semi eita start dating, you immediately are comfortable with each other's bodies (not even in any suggestive way, you've just traced the lines on his palms so many times.)

he faces the brunt of atsumu's teasing most of the time, but miya osamu never cracks, countering his twin's teasing by insulting him back- which most likely ends in fight. however, when you tease miya osamu, his face heats up and he stumbles over his words, but he doesn't really mind because he gets to hear your laughter.

miya osamu, who's competitive but especially when it comes to you AND he's jealous. if he overhears people talking about you, there's a good chance he'll stare them down in the hallways and scare them away- which is really effective with his 'the more intimidating miya' status.

you leave little notes of encouragement in akaashi keiji's textbooks, and he smiles so widely every time he finds them. he keeps all of them too, not having the heart to throw them away.

akaashi keiji, who can be brutally honest that you let him know that you appreciate it when he is. you come to him for genuine advice and it always makes him feel validated when you listen intently and take in his words.

akaashi keiji, who you've actually had several conversations over fashion with, because even though he doesn't exactly have the best closet, you send him photos of outfits you think would look good on him.

and when he buys the appropriate clothes to build an outfit, you hype him up for it because what the fuck, why does akaashi keiji look so good in a turtle neck.

falling for akaashi keiji was so easy, easier than falling asleep, because he's always there for you and he's got this unassuming charm to him. the second you realised you'd began to slip, you simply just let it happen.

bokuto is a really sad third wheel, even whilst you two are just friends, but akaashi keiji can't help but pay attention to anything that's not you.

speaking of perceptive eyes, suna rintarou notices you almost everywhere. not just you but he only ever gives two thoughts about you, complimenting your outfit in his head before glancing away.

he asks about you, trying to sound disinterested but osamu notices his bullshit right away. you're the same, asking about suna rintarou whilst pretending like you don't care. osamu tells atsumu this and the twins decide to take it into their own hands.

you don't know why miya atsumu has decided to talk to you, deciding that it was the cherry on top when suna rintarou approached and sat down next to his friend.

suna rintarou once responded to your story on instagram and you begin talking for hours without realising.

Animated, bubbly and incredibly friendly, our beloved N brings an energetic and passionate, and lively spirit to the office. As a Werewolf, their empathetic nature makes them adept at counseling. They joined the office seeking a bridge between the worlds, hoping to dispel misconceptions about werewolves and foster understanding.

Devan embodies the mischievous spirit of an Oni, their playful and curious personality makes them difficult to handle, yet very useful in dynamic environments. Their love for challenges drew them to the office, eager to tackle the complexities of monster and human relations.

Lucian/Leah (he/him or she/her) • THE MERMAID • 25 years old

L's calm and observant personality brings a tranquil presence to the office. As a Mermaid, they contribute a unique perspective on the challenges of both land and sea. L joined to explore new horizons and bridge the gap between underwater and terrestrial life.

Cyrus (he/him or she/her) • THE ZOMBIE • 30 years old

Cyrus defies zombie stereotypes. Their ability to empathize and understand others' emotions makes them an excellent counselor. Cyrus joined the office seeking redemption and a chance to demonstrate that even the undead can contribute positively to society.

headcanon that shouto is actually really flexible as a result of his hardcore training, but it’s something he’s never brought up because he didn’t think it was important enough to mention.

one day, though, you catch him settling comfortably into middle splits while he reads a book, brows furrowed — not in pain or discomfort — but because he’s focusing on whatever he’s reading. 

he says nothing when he’s easing into a backbend, ears perked while he listens to you move around the kitchen humming a song… up until you notice him, which got you yelping: “what the fuck, shouto! stop doing that!”. he laughs and asks you to help him up. (you know he doesn’t need the help. you know he just wants your hands on him). 

you eventually get used to seeing him in strange poses and stretches around the house, and he gets you to help him out sometimes (“babe, can you come sit on my back real quick? ooooh. feels good. mmmm.”) and you have to suppress the blush that spreads across your cheeks. 

he gets you stretching with him eventually and is merciless with it — your hands fearfully slap him away whenever he tries to or press you down or pull on your limbs or worse: sit on you.

so now you’re the slightest bit more flexible than before, thanks to your boyfriend. you do your due diligence and stretch with him in the mornings, indulging in the way sunlight fills up your bedroom.
