Some of y’all can’t seem to comprehend that the show isn’t the books, and it was never trying to be.
Loving the books SHOULD NOT EQUAL hating the show and vice versa. Because they’re not the same, and that’s the point.
They’re different stories that take place in different times, different mediums, and different universes. It always intended to deviate from the source material. This was mentioned several times during the press tour.
If you’re mad that your favorite line, theme, or moment from the book isn’t there, you are not here for the show. You are here for the books, and that was your first mistake.
The show is flawed. I know. It has problems.
But if you want to criticize the show, ask yourself if your criticism still stands without comparing it to the books. If it can’t, ask yourself why it matters. Then get over it.
Thanks for coming to my angry TEDTalk.
So the footage of Owen training the tiny raptors in the new Jurassic World kind of (inadvertently, I think) confirmed something that always bugged me about the social dynamics mentioned in the first film.
Owen’s using the term ‘alpha’ wrong.
Of course, the concept of pack alphas is rooted in a lot of erroneous studies anyway. But if we take his actual assertions about it and Blue’s behaviour at face value, then Owen is wrong. He’s not the alpha. Blue is the alpha. The pack follows her cues, that’s why they go with her when she decides to follow the Indominous, and it’s also why they listen to Owen - because Blue does. If Blue stops, so do the other raptors. They’d don’t just wait it out to see who’ll win, they immediately follow Blue’s lead.
Blue’s the leader.
Owen is, actually, the mediator.
He is the one who stops disputes between the raptors and defuses tense situations. He is permitted this status precisely because he’s physically weak (compared to raptors) but socially important. His social importance was created by rearing the raptors and forming emotional bonds with them. But they know full well that he’s squishy and beatable (though they probably don’t realize just how lethal some behaviours might be for him, comparatively). Blue knows she can kill Owen and that Owen is not strong or very useful at leadership decisions for a velociraptor pack. She accepts his input because he’s dad.
So since Owen actually isn’t even in the running for pack leader, and challenging him would be pointless because then you’d just hurt him and cost the pack a socially important member, and also probably get beaten up by Blue, he is the ideal mediator of disputes. His intervention de-escalates situations by reducing the amount of violence that’s permissible.
But because he was using so much containment and physical force (even if it was through equipment, obviously) to keep the raptors in check, I think Owen misjudged his placement in the raptor social group. Especially since he actually was tougher than them when they were babies. He thought they listened to him because they believed he was stronger than them, and that this was an illusion he had to maintain.
That was never actually the case, though. Blue knew Owen was way weaker than her the whole time. She just valued him anyway.
There’s probably a metaphor about toxic masculinity in there somewhere.

all fanfic writers, ever, awake at ungodly hours doubting everything they’ve ever written or thought of writing until they see that one (or more, hopefully!) magical, long-ass comment that makes every bit of struggle totally and completely worth it (via rudderless-in-an-ocean-of-stars)

Dear Disney, more brown girls with water affinities please I’m in love with them all 💖😌
When a man starts explaining a concept you already told him you understand, instead of saying “I know” over and over until you die, try one of these:
Ok, which aspect is confusing you?
It seems like you have the basics down; Would you like me to recommend some good articles so you can get a more nuanced understanding?
So did you have a specific question, or do you just want a more in depth explanation?
My God-Mother: So what kind of books do you read?
Me, happy to talk about books: That depends! I'm currently reading Harry Potter.
My God-Mother, who I just remembered is extremely religious: You are not allowed to read those books! The bible states that it is a sin to do witchcraft! People like that go to hell!
Me, thinking in my head about all of the gay lemon fanfics I've read, Shadowhunter series, Percy Jackson series that follow different religons, and all of the supernatural type TV shows that I secretly watch and love:
Like, guess I'll go to hell then
Heaven Official's Blessing, or Tiān Guān Cì Fú, is my favorite danmei novel. Here's why:
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! BELOW ARE SPOILERS FOR ARC 4, OR BOOK 6 FROM THE SEVEN SEAS TRANSLATION.
Ok, the reason this is my favorite danmei novel, is directly tied into Hua Cheng and his complete and utter devotion to Xie Lian. In the hundred sword piercing scene in Arc 4, or Book 6, the scene is built up So Well, with Xie Lian and Bai Wuxiang and all of the sheer mindfuckery that happens with the people. And yeah, Xie Lian's pain and heartache and despair is absolutely Heart wrenching, but Hua Cheng. Hua Cheng is who Sells that scene for me. Because he Loves this man, this GOD, he is devoted and faithful and as close to everlasting as he can get, and he has had to Watch as the man he loves goes through Literal Hell while Hua Cheng is literally an incorporeal Ghost Fire. He is almost entirely powerless, and he is unable to help or even alleviate some of Xie Lian's pain. And you can Feel that So Keenly in the hundred sword piercing scene, when Xie Lian is screaming, and in Such Pain, and he just it's to Stop, he is Finally asking for help and No One Hears Him, and Hua Cheng the helpless incorporeal Ghost Fire who loves this man can only Watch. He can do NOTHING to help. And it tears him apart. And their combined but separate agony is what makes this scene get to me So Deeply every. Single. Time. That I read it. I break down crying every time, because their feelings are so visceral, and they feel like they're both alone with this but they're not, and it all just combines into this wonderful terrible amazing heartrending scene, and I just. I love this novel so much. Because it let me experience that depth of emotion. It's so good. It's amazing. And absolutely everyone should read it, because it is catharsis and heartbreak and angst and validation all in one place.

Stop it. Just stop it. In nearly all discussions I’ve had with people about a homosexual ship, I get the response “Not all male/male friends are in love”. No shit Sherlock. Not all male/female friends are in love either.
Stop throwing your homophobic shit at people. Accept the fact gay ships exist, and that they are sometimes in fact canon. Just because I ship two males (and this applies to females too of course) doesn’t mean I’m a “Yaoi obsessed fangirl”.
I identify as female with she/her pronouns. I love anything One Piece. Especially Trafalgar Law.
