Trixie is thankfully safe because I don't think Chris Pratt would be able to voice a female but Burpy could always become the dreaded "marketable talking animal companion" so he isn't safe.
Random tangent incoming but one thing that always fascinated me about Saturday's character is that he doesn't seem to have a clear role in Blakk Industries.
Like C.C was a well-respected slinger so he was likely recruited to raise the general opinion of Blakk Industries, Nacho is an enforcer which I assume mostly means he scares people into giving Blakk what he wants, Twist is Blakk's apprentice, and the large group of mercenary characters Blakk recruits in the trade (which includes Locke and Lode) are most likely either there to A: raise public interest in ghouls kinda like what C.C is there for or B: to do tasks for Blakk that aren't important enough to do himself or send Nacho to do but that he can't just send one of the random unnamed guards to complete.
But Saturday's whole thing is mind control which could be useful to Blakk but Saturday seems way more interested in using that power for his own gain. After all, Blakk wouldn't have any use for the stolen big screen TVs or couch cushions from Caverna Mall
Not to mention Saturday has some lines suggesting that his role in Blakk Industries might be a bit more complicated like "Blakk may have given me the ghoul tech, but I work for no one but myself" in Dawn of the Slug or when he says "I am a business man and this is strictly business!.. although I am running a little low on ghouls Dr. Blakk." after Eli calls him another one of Blakk's minions
I'm probably thinking way too hard about this but I am curious to hear what anyone else might think about this.
Warning: this post is kinda long
one thing I like about the Slug It Out games is they introduce some pretty cool original characters but since I'm pretty sure Spirex is the only one that became canon, here are some other ones I think deserve more attention (side note I will be sticking to the ones in SIO1 because their images are on the fandom wiki)
First is Minotaurus, my personal favourite who is introduced alongside Turtleton and Spirex (the names make it pretty clear which one is which) in the creature feature level of the judgement day chapter (basically just a cooler version of Mission: Improbable) where they work as a trio of hired mercenaries. Minotaurus has since been added as a SIO2 skin but the other 2 have not.
Next is Hudu Vudu, who is introduced in the first level of the same chapter (titled tricked) and is the one to capture Eli and bring him to Stalagmite 17. and is apparently Mr. Saturday's henchman. He has also been added as an SIO2 skin.
Up next is Doom Bot. It's a really cool robot not much else to say (there is also a Doom Bot 2.0 which is all black and has the Blakk Industries logo instead of an hourglass but the wiki doesn't have a picture of them). Like many of the others they have been added as a SIO2 skin.
Last and largest is Commander Croc. He appears in the second last level of the Ships Ahoy chapter (titled The Docks) where he attempts to stop Eli from getting some treasure. He makes a return is SIO2 with 3 smaller crocodile characters named Broc, Roc, and Smoc.
Slugterra sure loves to make cool characters and do nothing with them but that just means that since these guys aren't technically canon we can do whatever we want with them. Want to make one of them your oc? Go for it! Nobody can stop you >:D!
Mr. Saturday: How do I look?
Eli: It’s like a horror movie! You look like you died!
I will never forgive SIO2 for not having any cutscenes like in SIO1 because LOOK HOW COOL THESE ARE
and I can't forget my personal favourite
I MISS THESE SO MUCH SIO2 IS SO BLAND WITHOUT THEM
Also, I could play as Mr. Saturday without GAMBLING for MONTHS and I STILL DONT HAVE HIM
(also fun fact: in the SIO1 cutscenes Saturday only has an earring on his right ear while in canon he has one on both)
I was going to translate the other tombstone but then I discovered that it is THE EXACT SAME BUT UPSIDE DOWN
This is genuinely kind of upsetting like its cool that they used the official language but why bother if it's just going to be gibberish?
(side note: if the staff blaster they add at 25k likes isn't Mr. Saturday's staff I might start tweaking)
Seriously though why hasn't Twist, a fan favourite, lore important character been added to the game yet as a skin?
No hate to the devs it just seems strange to me
"the truth is, in this life... we only have ourselves" - Dr. Blakk in Back to Blakk
Hey Dr. Blakk a word of advice, maybe you would have more friends if you stopped being mean to all of your allies for no reason.
like broski, maybe if the primary motivator for all of your allies (not just the people you hire) wasn't fear you would have more people stick around until the end other than Maurice and Nacho (and Maurice didn't even join the final fight against the Shane Gang)
Examples:
Locke, Lode, John Bull, and C.C only want to bust Blakk out of Stalagmite 17 for the rewards.
Throws Quintin out of the Titan in Upgrade for basically no reason.
Sends Nacho to the deep caverns for basically no reason in The New Kid part 2.
Calls Mr. Saturday's mind control "mind control foolishness" after he CAPTURED THE SHANE GANG and TOOK OVER THE MOST ESCAPE PROOF PRISON IN ALL OF SLUGTERRA like my brother in Brimstone is it THAT hard to go ONE CONVERSATION without insulting someone.
there are probably several more examples of this that I can't remember off the top of my head.
I understand that he is the main antagonist but being this mean to your own comrades is just bad strategy dude.
Blakk's now probably ex-allies might not be 100% sure he's alive but the things they probably say about him in their totally real group chat must be legendary
I think one of the funniest parts about Saturday is that on top of everything in the show that never gets fully addressed, like how Saturday seems determined to deny that he is working under/for Dr. Blakk is how his character description from the fandom wiki drops that he is from the Tropical caverns (which are mentioned nowhere outside of this description) and that there are rumours of him experimenting with dark slug magic and they just leave that there and never elaborate
Going back to Blakk’s goons what are your thoughts on Mr.Saturday for me I think he’s a neat villain. What about you?
Mr. Saturday was an interesting character with cool ass lore that got turned into a gag for the sake of plot-
I mentioned this in tags once, but 'Dawn of The Slug' Saturday would have not fallen for Eli's bluff in 'Mission: Improbable'
Mr. Saturday is objectively smart and had it not been for plot reasons Eli, Trixie and Kord would not have been able to pull the shit they did during 'Mission: Improbable' and would have been turned into hypno-zombies till Blakk arrived. Because you would think after what happened in Caverna Mall, Saturday would have been more cautious when dealing with the Shane Gang
Saturday is also supposedly from a secret southern cavern or something along those lines, and that opens a crap ton of questions???
All in all, Mr. Saturday is cool, I like him. But given his unique role, i get why he wasn't used more.
Dr. Blakk 5 milliseconds after finding out Mr. Saturday let the Shane Gang out of Stalagmite 17 because he wanted a smoothie
MY EMPLOYEES ARE ALL MORONSSS
C.C. is a nepo baby huh (makes me wonder about his parents and what they do and what influence they have)
(for context, here's the section about C.C on the fandom wiki which is taken from the old official Slugterra website)
"The somewhat spoiled son of a wealthy family from the Western Caverns, CC always has the latest in blaster mods and armor technology. CC loves a good taunt and a good duel, especially when he wins."
Yeah pretty much
I mostly post Slugterra memes(I am in other fandoms)
