I appreciate Nintendo trying to be more gender-inclusive lately with gender-neutral pronouns for their customizable protagonists, but for the new Tomodachi Life game (I can't believe that is a phrase I just wrote), we NEED a pronoun selecter. As someone who uses they/them primarily, it feels really impersonal when a game automatically decides I'm a they- like it's a way to avoid assigning a pronoun, rather than an actual pronoun in and of itself.
I think the closest Nintendo has ever come to making "they" feel like an intentional, careful choice is when the Rescue Corps from Pikmin 4 discuss the Leaflings. As Captain Shepherd says, "It's impossible to tell who they are with all the leaf coverage. But it doesn't matter who they are- it's our job to rescue them."
It doesn't have to be too complicated: he, she, they, and a "type your own" option.
And while we're at it, please let our Miis be gay. Please Nintendo.
for those who don’t know btw Nintendo uses the same couple hundred miis in their advertising (they’re also the ones they use as cpus in stuff like wii sport) so here’s the two miis in yuri in tomodachi life living the dream:
have fun!
Never kill yourself.
You either die a ruthless king bringer of chaos, destruction and war all across the planet or live long enough to become a inn keeper I guess
I'm fucking crying man
EVERYBODY WINS!!!
"Do it scared" is out. "Do it in a fugue so dense as to barely be penetrable by uncertainty" is in.

It's the time of year where we PMD fans collectively don our clown makeup and hope.
