SYNOPSIS: After getting injured and blacking out during a battle, you had not other choice but to take a week-long rest at home to recover. Oh the joy of being their favorite past time.

Part 2 (Zayne) | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7
Your week had been more than just the typical stressful encounter. Well, first and foremost, you took a hit. A pretty bad one, to say the least. It just so happened you were out in the field with Xavier, fighting off Wanderers just like any other day. It was supposed to be an easy job, a quick 30-45 minute battle, however you never anticipated to be battling wave after wave of Wanderers.
Now, here you were under bedrest, seeking recovery from your battle, surrounded by a thick blanket and rows and towers of pillows for your own comfort. Ironically, despite all the comfort your own bed has brought to you over the years, nothing could compete to the impending feeling of doom you were feeling at that moment.
Your phone kept buzzing non-stop, one message after the other, not just from one but from all five of your "emergency contacts". For some reason, they thought it was wise to build a groupchat and include you in it, to keep "tabs" on your well-being. Knowing well-enough your house is littered with security cameras from Caleb's recent "house project" and Mephisto being on the 24/7 watch, constantly pecking at your window to check on you and most probably bring "gifts" from Onychinus' one and only leader, Sylus. Not to mention, all five men have access to your current vital signs that directly notify them if it gets too low or too high, all thanks to Zayne's newly-installed and gifted watch, which clings onto your wrist like a second skin.
Grumbling to yourself as you rolled on your bed, shielding your eyes from the light peeking through the curtains, "So much for a relaxing long weekend".
Âť Flashback: 3 days ago . . . ÂŤ
"Xavier!" you yelled across the field., "2:00!". Loud shots were fired into the air accompanied with the clanging of metal hitting almost everything in its path. "There's too many," Xavier respons, panting heavily as he wipes off the sweat and dirt off his forehead. "Any ideas?" he asks, slashing his sword through the air as another Wanderer comes too close for its own comfort towards you and Xavier.
You and Xavier had been fighting Wanderers non-stop since early in the morning. What was anticipated to be an easy job for the both of you experienced hunters, became nearly a full-day battle. "Well, making it out alive is one of them," you half-heartedly joked, trying to figure out another way to eliminate at least most of the Wanderers stalking your way. You and Xavier were about to be cornered against a large boulder, with no other exit available for the both of you to make it out alive without leaving the other behind. With quick thinking, Xavier slashed his sword in the air and cut down a nearby tree, crushing the remaining Wanderers that were crawling towards the both of you.
With heavy panting, you let your knees buckle and kneel to the floor, carefully clutching both of your guns to the ground. "What the hell was that?", swiping off all the sweat and grime from your forehead and carefully tucking away hair strands of your now messy ponytail to the side.
"It was more than what we had expected," Xavier holds out a hand and helps you get up. Not even standing at your full height, you felt the pang to your chest, you quickly grasp the skin over your heart to try and ease the pain. You felt the whole world spinning, bits of black blotches decorating your vision, you couldn't help but feel the swaying motions of your entire body, feeling the wave of pain and exhaustion finally crashing into you.
With one last glance at Xavier, you blacked out and felt your body, crash to the floor with only hearing Xavier's worried voice over and over until everything became tuned out.
âĄă¡ËË¡ ¡ËË¡ăâĄ
It wasn't long before you regained consciousness and finally woke up from your deep slumber. Quickly looking around the room, familiarity made you realize that Xavier had brought you back home in your apartment. Carefully expecting your body, you could clearly see you were beaten and bruised from head to toe with your body being covered in layers of bandages and band-aids, for the smaller cuts.
"You're awake," a voice finally broke you out of your thoughts. As you lift your gaze up, you felt a soft smile grace your face. It was none other than your one and only partner in crime, Xavier, who was seemingly unscathed from the recent battle, carrying what seems to be a steaming hot bowl of what looks like a multi-colored soup. Well, crap.
"You blacked out, I had to bring you to the nearest hospital. You were out for a long time." Xavier said slowly, walking towards your bed with the soup in his hand, carefully grabbing a nearby chair with his vacant hand and setting himself ontop of it. "You overused your powers today, the association has been informed that we finished the task but, seeing your current condition, they're letting you take a break for a couple of days for you to fully recover".
"What? No, I can't. We still have so much paperworks to deal with. Not to mention the sudden influx of Wanderer activity within neighboring cities of Linkon." Your eyes widden at the thought, trying to slowly get up and fix yourself to a seated position, only to feel a pang of pain that puts your back against the board of your bed with a small thud and a wince of pain that makes you grab your waist in hopes to soothe the pain.
"Exactly my point. I'll handle the rest for the meantime. You need to rest. Captain Jenna has already made plans to assign me with a temporary partner while you rest up. We'll continue the mission from here and I'll update you as much as I can". Xavier, carefully, placing the soup onto the nearby table, gives your hand a small squeeze and a reassuring smile. As he pulls away, his gaze drops to his homemade soup and carefully picks up the bowl and scoops a spoonful of it.
You could feel the dread crawling out of you as Xavier stirs the soup and grabs another handful of the soup onto the spoon. "This is my own homemade recipe. I made it a while ago while you were asleep. It's mixed with all the good stuff I could find in your fridge". Well, double crap! I haven't even cleaned out my fridge for the week.
"That's so sweet of you Xavier, it means a lot but you don't have to feed me. I can handle it on my own." Reassuring Xavier as you carefully try to find a comfortable sitting position on the bed. Also hoping & praying that Xavier wouldn't feed you his bathbomb of a soup. Who knows what the man found and put into his miracle of a soup?
"No, I insist. Open wide," While grabbing both of your cheeks, Xavier quickly grabs the spoon and shoves the content forcefully into your mouth. With no choice but to swallow, you try and close your eyes to somehow pretend you're eating anything but the bathbomb soup.
Trying not to grimace at the recently-swallowed spoonful of bathbomb soup, you gave Xavier a weak smile, "Wow, it's...definitely something".
"I'm glad you like it. I won't leave until you finish all of it. Doctor's orders after all." You could feel your soul ascend and leave your body. How could you possibly finish this whole soup infront of Xavier? Taking in a deep breathe, you playfully twirl the spoon with your fingers as it rotates gently with the soup in the bowl, hoping it would buy you enough time for Xavier to go home and you can dispatch the bathbomb soup.
"Oh and, don't worry about anything else. Everything else is covered. The association said that they informed your four other emergency contacts. So, while I'm not here to take care of you, either of the four will do the job." Xavier smiles sweetly, as he wips out his phone and shows you an email from the association with his email attached to the receiver, along with not just two but four other emails? Why on earth would you have five emergency contacts? It wasn't like you were dying or anything, just beaten and bruised, but you'll definitely heal within a day or two.
"Wow, that's a lot of people but I'm sure I'll be fine. I'll only be gone for a couple of days."
"A week, you'll be gone for a week". Xavier corrected, looking through his phone to double check the email and its content. A whole week? What kind of joke is the universe trying to pull on you now? "Are you kidding me? What am I supposed to do then?"
"Well, for starters, you can finish your soup, I'll make up a new batch before I head out so I can give you time to rest". Xavier says, as he pats your head gently and slowly pushes away strands of your bangs to the side. Your eyes could never mistake the longing stare Xavier always does whenever he looks at you, as if worried you would disappear without a trace.
"I'll be fine. Have some faith in me, with your soup, I'll be back to work in no time." You say as you reach out for his hand and give it a tight squeeze and a reassuring smile.
Xavier couldn't help but smile, tidbits of little sparkles floating around him as you both reciprocate the emotion of relief, of being safe away from any worry and danger. "You'll always be my best partner in crime, you know? You've saved me more times than I can count".
"I'll always come to save you as you will always come and find me, no matter where I am". You couldn't help but smile but also wonder, what does Xavier mean by that, that you would always come and find him? Oh well, that's another mystery for another day.
"I think I'll rest up in while".
"Good, I'll make a new batch of soup. They should be arriving at any minute".
They?
And just like that, the universe decided to give you its own vision of rest & relaxation as a loud bang of the door accompanied by numerous voices flowed into your apartment.
"Pipsquek, I'm home! I got here as fast as I could!"
"Truly, we could have taken the elevator at different intervals. I don't think using your gravity evol to force the doors shut was wise".
"Oh doctor, relax. Surely, with your salary, we could pay a handsome fee and make another elevator to fit us".
"Or maybe we just don't visit at the same time? Her apartment's already cramped as is. Can't you find different day-offs or something?
Dear God, help me.

Xavier
Music plays softly in the background as you sway to the beat. The sweet smell of pancakes permeates the air around you, the morning sunlight beaming through the open windows, the breeze cool on your skin. You flip the pancake in the pan before moving to prepare the fruit ready to top off your breakfast. Xavierâs hoodie hangs off of you like a dress, keeping you cozy in the morning daze, your hair still a mess, sticking up in odd places.Â
Itâs the most beautiful sight he has ever seen. He wouldnât mind waking up early every day if it meant he could see you like this, in his apartment, in his clothes, swaying to music, a carefree atmosphere surrounding you. His blue eyes, still hazy from sleep, track your movements as you move around his kitchen, the sunlight illuminating your figure. He leaned against the doorway, giving himself time to admire you.
You were ethereal, a goddess walking the earth. You chose him, again and again, in this life and in the past ones. He was the luckiest person in the world to have you by his side, he never doubted that. A gentle smile was etched into his face as he pushed off from the wall until his arms wrapped around your waist, his face pressed into your neck.Â
âGood morning love.â You smile sweetly, your voice was quiet in a way that added to the cozy atmosphere. His lips pulled into a full smile as he pressed a gentle kiss to the side of your neck.
âGood morning honey.â His voice was muffled, but the contentment that echoed through it was clear as day.Â
âBreakfast is nearly done, could you set the table?â He grumbled slightly about having to part from you, but the complaint was quickly chased away with a soft kiss to his lips. He did as you asked, making coffee and setting up the cutlery, before turning the music up on your phone.Â
You look at him curiously, turning the stove off once the last pancake landed on the stack.
He reached out his hand, grasping yours and pulling you into his embrace, swaying to the lyrics of the song. You giggled, wrapping your own arms around his neck as his snaked around your waist.Â
âThe pancakes are gonna go cold.â You whisper, not willing to break the serene atmosphere that settled around the two of you. A grin spread across your lips, heart skipping a beat. Instead of a reply, youâre greeted with a slow gentle kiss, his arms tightening around you. You sigh into the kiss, unhurried, content with just holding each other as you move to the music. Pulling away, you gaze into his eyes, deep blue and filled with admiration, overflowing with the love he held for you.Â
Rafayel
The sky was still dark when you arrived on the beach, the waves crashing on the shore. You jogged ahead, pulling him along with you. The breeze hit you, chilly in the morning hour, fresh with the smell of the wide ocean in front of you. You take a moment to breathe, to take it all in, before turning to Rafayel, a wide grin already spread across your face. His smile is amused, an eyebrow arcing.
âWhereâs all this energy coming from, Cutie?â He chuckled, letting himself be pulled along the sand until the two of you stood by where the waves greeted the land.Â
âWell, Iâve been wanting to see the sunrise with you for a while. This is the first time weâve managed to get up on time, let me be excited about this!â You laugh, pressing yourself closer to his side, resting your cheek on his shoulder as you look up at him. You get a chuckle back in response, as he presses a kiss to your hairline before taking a sip of his coffee.Â
âBesides, youâve been looking for inspiration right? Maybe this beautiful sunrise will help with that.â You say as you turn to look to the horizon, any minute now the sun will come up and will paint the sky into a stunning array of colours.Â
You adjust your scarf before taking a sip of your own coffee, letting the warmth spread through you, nuzzling closer to Rafayel. His arm rests across you back, the hand on your hip holding you close as a comfortable silence fills the air between you.Â
Within minutes, the first pinks and oranges spread across the sky, a breath getting stuck in your throat in awe. The sun rays finally peak across the ocean, showering the two of you in a golden light.
Rafayelâs eyes drop to you, as you admire the scenery. The view heâs more interested in is you, how the hue of the light brightens your face, how your eyes are full of joy, the small smile on your rosy lips. You are glowing, a blissful sort of comfort settles inside of him as he studies you.Â
You were here, with him. By his side. He had found you again, his beloved bride, his most devout follower, the person who held his heart. After so many tragedies in the past, he finally had his happy ending, the love of his life by his side. His sunset coloured eyes donât leave your face for a second, even as you turn to look at him.Â
Oh. He has found his new favourite colour. Your eyes met his, shining with pure glee, before softening at the sight of him, a smile permanently planted on your lips. He must be making some sort of funny expression as all he receives is a soft laugh from you, before a gentle kiss is planted on his lips. Your soft lips glide across his for a moment, before you pull away, a hand coming to cradle his cheek.
âThe view is over there, Love.â You say, a teasing tone in your voice. He huffed a laugh.
âI prefer the view over here.â He replies, a smirk appearing on his face, before his lips meet yours once again, his arm pulling you closer. The kiss was gentle, content. You bring your arms around his neck, pulling away to meet his eyes. His gaze was filled with mirth, full of love and joy and admiration. In that moment, he had found the inspiration heâs been searching for.

Sequel to Love Beyond the Surface (part 1)
Words: 3220 Warning: hint of suicide, slow burn, reader is not MC, parallel universe(isekai), grammar & spelling
INTRO: Your fingers lingered on the book as you handed it, the soft glance you gave without meaning to. Just this time, can he borrow your heart⌠for a little while?
âŚ.âââââââââ ËËË âĄ ËËË âââââââââ .âŚ
You mutter a quiet curse under your breath as you bend down to pick up the scattered books, carefully arranging them back onto the shelf.
The familiar scent of aged paper and ink surrounds you, but it does little to calm the frustration bubbling inside.
Why is she here?
Your fingers pause for a brief moment as your gaze shifts toward the girl standing just a few feet away. Or should you call her the MC? The main character of this whole ordeal. She shouldnât be here, at least, not in the library, not during your shift.
Of all the times she could have chosen to appear, why now?
You shrink back, pressing yourself against the bookshelf. Maybe if you stay perfectly still, she wonât notice you. You are just a background character, a random human in the grand narrative of her life. Nothing more, nothing less.
I am an NPC. I am just an NPC. I am not here.
You repeat the mantra in your head like a desperate prayer, silently urging the universe to redirect her attention elsewhere.
Time stretches unbearably, turning seconds into minutes, maybe even hours in your mind. And then, finally, she starts walking away.
You exhale sharply, relief washing over you like a cool breeze. Please leave. Please leave.
But then recognition flickers across her face. Her lips part, and thenâŚ
"Xavier?"
You groan, already feeling a headache forming. Without thinking, you grab the nearest book and lightly bump your forehead against it, as if that could somehow knock this entire situation out of existence.
"Oh, it's you."
Xavierâs voice is casual, but thereâs a slight hesitation, a pause just long enough to make your stomach twist. You watch as his gaze flickers around the library, scanning the shelves, the tables, the spaces between them. Searching.
For what?
For who?
Panic grips you before logic can. Without thinking, you drop into a crouch and scramble beneath the nearest table, pressing yourself into the shadows like your life depends on it.
From your hiding spot under the table, you can hear her voice light up with excitement the moment she sees him. She starts talking fast, animated, rambling about something you canât quite make out.
Xavier, on the other hand, replies in short, clipped responses. His voice is steady, neutral, maybe even a little disinterested.
Thatâs⌠weird.
This is the moment where heâs supposed to be captivated by her every word, yet, right now, he looks almost⌠distracted. And then, just for a second, his eyes flicker away from her to the side, toward the table.
Your stomach drops.
He couldnât be looking for you⌠right? Thereâs no reason, no logical reason.
You watch as his gaze lingers for a moment too long, scanning the shelves, the tables, your hiding spot. Your pulse pounds in your ears as you press yourself tighter against the wooden legs of the table.
Meanwhile, sheâs still talking, completely oblivious. You canât even focus on her words anymore. He shifts. Take a step. But just as he moves, she tugs at his sleeve, dragging his attention back to her.
"Hey, are you even listening?" The girl huffs.
Xavier blinks, as if snapped out of a daze. "Yeah. Sorry. What were you saying?"
You hold your breath, waiting, hoping.
She sighs. "We should get going." Her voice is light and casual.
Footsteps shuffle against the library floor, and for a moment, you think it's over. They're leaving. You're safe⌠for now.
ââââââ ⥠ââââââ
The rhythmic tapping of keys and the quiet hum of the library fill the air as you scan books at the checkout desk, barely looking up as the next person steps forward.
"Just put your books here." You say, reaching for the scanner.
A familiar voice responds, softer than usual. "OkayâŚ"
Your fingers pause for the briefest moment before you force yourself to look up.
Shjtâ
Stay calm. Stay calm. He wonât recognize me⌠right? Please donât recognize me.
Xavier stands before you, shifting his weight slightly, a few books stacked in his arms. But thatâs not what catches your attention. Itâs the faint bruise along his cheekbone. Itâs subtle, but up close, the lighting highlights the uneven coloration, just enough to make it noticeable.
You narrow your eyes slightly. "âŚWhat happens to your faceâ" Your hands fly up, covering your mouth. Idiot. You were supposed to avoid drawing attention.
He blinks, as if caught off guard by your question. Then he lifts a hand, fingers brushing absently against the bruise before dropping them. "This? Itâs nothing."
You donât respond right away. Just stare at him.
Xavier exhales, shifting the books in his arms. "Just ran into some trouble, thatâs all." His voice is casual, too dismissive.
You donât take the bait. Instead, you scan the book in his hand and slide it back toward him. "Did you at least put something on it?"
For a moment, he doesnât answer. Then a low chuckle. Not his usual sharp, teasing kind. Itâs softer, almost amused. "Are you worried about me?"
You roll your eyes and push the next book through the scanner. "Forget I asked."
"Too late." His voice is quieter now, a little too pleased.
You huff, choosing to ignore him as you finish scanning his books.
ââââââ ⥠ââââââ
The library is quiet, the steady rhythm of shelving books filling the air. You barely glance up until you catch movement from the corner of your eye.
Xavier stands in front of a tall bookshelf, reaching for a book just out of grasp. His fingers brush the spine, but he hesitates, his arm stiff, a faint wince crossing his face before he tries again.
You sigh and step over. "Here." Easily, you pull the book down and hand it to him.
Xavier blinks, as if surprised you even noticed, then takes it. "âŚThanks."
You watch him for a second. "You shouldnât be reaching like that if youâre hurt."
SilenceâŚ
"⌠You work here often?" He asks, shifting slightly, like heâs trying to steer the conversation into something more natural.
"Just part-time." You reply carefully.
"Oh." His grip tightens a fraction more, then loosens again, as if heâs catching himself. "So youâre not always here."
"Thatâs kind of how part-time works." You say dryly, hoping to cut this conversation short.
But instead of taking the hint, he exhales softly, almost like that wasnât the answer he wanted. "Right."
For a moment, neither of you speak. You should walk away. You should.
"You turned me down pretty fast last time."
Your stomach twists slightly.
"Because you had the wrong person."
"I know." His voice is calm, even. "I just thought..." He stops himself, shaking his head slightly. "Never mind."
A strange tightness coils in your chest. You donât know why, but the way he says that, like something fragile, makes you uneasy.
ââââââ ⥠ââââââ
You can still remember, the first time you two met, Xavier behaved more⌠different.
He looked completely shocked, standing in the middle of the street like he had just seen a ghost. You hadnât even realized he was nearby at first. If you had, you would have taken a different path, avoiding him entirely.
Back then, you had been terrified. Not just because he had seen you, but because you didnât know what he knew. Did he know you werenât supposed to be here? That you werenât from this world?
The thought alone had sent a chill down your spine. You had feared that he might follow you, that he would demand answers⌠answers you didnât have.
You had no idea how he would react.
You steal a glance at him from across the library, pretending to be busy stacking books.
Heâs here. Again.
Ever since that encounter, Xavier has started coming around more often. Too often. You donât know if itâs a coincidence or if heâs deliberately showing up, but either way, itâs unfortunate for you.
Because now, you have a new problem.
There is no way you can keep working here, not when the risk of him figuring out your secret keeps growing by the day. If he hasnât already started piecing things together, itâs only a matter of time.
Which means you need a new job.
And more importantly, you need to cut him off.
Youâve tried to brush it off, to tell yourself youâre just being paranoid, but the facts wonât let you.. Based on everything youâve learned from the game⌠Xavier doesnât react well to things he canât explain. And youâre that something.
All you want is to go unnoticed, to stay out of his sight. Even though you love him, his story, his character, the way he was written to be compelling and complex. As a character, he was fascinating. But in reality? In your reality? He was dangerous.
Who knows?
Maybe one day, instead of just appearing in the library, heâll show up somewhere worse. Like your apartment. Probably with a sword in his hand and your head on the ground.
And that? Thatâs not a risk youâre willing to take.
Your fingers hover over the small stone hidden in your pocket, its smooth surface unnervingly cool against your skin. Youâve only ever known of the protocore in standard colors, you don't know why this one turn black.
A cold shiver runs down your spine as you think back to that day. It happened in your first week here, when you're still not familiar with the traffic.
The truck had been coming straight for you, too fast, too close. You remember the blinding headlights, the deafening screech of tires, the sheer terror of knowing you couldnât move in time.
And thenânothing.
The truck had passed right through you, like you werenât even there. Like you were just a ghost.
You never figured out what happened that day or what that stone did. And you never wanted to find out.
Because if you did⌠It would mean admitting that something was deeply wrong with your presence here.
You sigh, pushing those thoughts to the back of your mind. Dwelling on them wonât help.
ââââââ ⥠ââââââ
"Okay⌠and youâre good to go." You slide the book across the counter, offering a polite nod.
But the man on the other side doesnât move. He just⌠stares at you.
Your fingers tighten slightly around the scanner. "⌠You need something else sir?"
He keeps staring. A slow, creeping smirk tugs at his lips.
Is he⌠flirting?
You honestly canât tell. If he is, itâs bad. Like, uncomfortably bad. The kind of bad that makes you want to disappear under the desk and pretend this interaction never happened.
Your grip tightens on the scanner as you force a strained smile. "âŚDo you need anything else?"
The man tilts his head slightly, eyes still locked onto you. "Nah," he drawls, amusement lacing his tone. "Just⌠taking my time."
Oh, great. I love when customers do that.
You resist the urge to groan. "Well then can you please take your time somewhere else." You say, keeping your voice perfectly polite.
The man doesnât leave. Of course he doesnât.
Instead, he just stands there, staring at you like youâre some kind of puzzle heâs trying to figure out. His smirk lingers, his posture relaxed but unnervingly present.
You grip the edge of the counter, debating whether to just pretend he doesnât exist.
A shadow falls over your desk.
"Is there a problem here?"
Xavierâs voice is casual, but thereâs an underlying edge to it, subtle, sharp. You blink, barely processing his sudden appearance. When did he even get here?
The man glances at him, and for the first time, his smirk falters just a little. "Nah, no problem." He says, though his tone isnât as confident as before.
Xavier doesnât respond right away. He just stares, his expression unreadable, his presence somehow making the air feel heavier.
The man shifts uncomfortably. Then, finally, finally, he mutters something under his breath, turns on his heel, and walks away.
You let out a slow breath, shoulders relaxing slightly. You narrow your eyes at him next. Suspicious.
"Youâre here a lot." You point out. "Donât you have something better to do?"
He tilts his head slightly, considering. "Not really."
Great.
You sigh, rubbing your temple. "Look, thanks for the whole 'intimidating presence thing', but Iâm fine. You donât have to keep showing up here like someâŚ" You wave a hand vaguely. " âŚlibrary cryptid."
Xavier raises an eyebrow. "Library cryptid?"
"You know what I mean." You huff. "If youâre just here to loiter, Iâm going to have to ask you to check out a book or leave."
For a moment, he just watches you, unreadable as ever. Then, he reaches for a book from a nearby shelf.
You blink as he sets it on the counter.
""
"You said I had to check something out," He says smoothly. "Iâm just following the rules."
You glance at the bookâs cover. The Beginnerâs Guide to Cooking.
Slowly, you lift your gaze back to him, deadpan. "Seriously?"
Xavier meets your eyes, completely unfazed. "What? Iâm expanding my interests."
You sigh and scan the book, going through the motions. "Remember to return it on time," you say, sliding it across the counter.
Xavier reaches for it, but then he pauses.
Your brows furrow slightly, and you glance up at him, only to catch his gaze locked onto your wrist.
More specifically⌠the faint, almost unreal lines tracing along your skin.
Your stomach drops.
Oh no.
You turn pale, heart lurching as you realize what heâs seeing. In your rush today, had you forgotten to cover it?
Quickly, you set the book down on the table beside him and pull your hand back, tucking it out of sight. Your heart pounds in your chest, but you force your voice to stay steady. "Something wrong?"
Xavierâs expression flickers, too fast to read. Then, he looks up, meeting your eyes.
"âŚNo." He says smoothly, picking up the book. "Nothing at all."
You watch as he picks up the book, his movements smooth, controlled, too controlled. Then, he simply says. "See you around." and walks away. ââââââ ⥠ââââââ The next morning, you call in sick.
And the day after that.
And the day after that.
A full week passes, and you still havenât set foot in the library. You know youâre being paranoid. Xavier hasnât done anything, hasnât confronted you.
But the memory of his eyes lingering on your wrist, that brief pause, itâs enough to keep you away.
So you stay holed up in your apartment, staring at the black protocore on your desk, fingers hovering over it but never quite touching. You should be figuring out a new job, making a plan, doing something.
Lincoln City isnât exactly kind to people without proper documentation.
And by people, you mean you.
Most jobs require some kind of passport, ID, or legal paperwork, things you, an entity from another world, very much do not have.
YayâŚ
So, here you are, scanning every job advertisement you can find. Which, as it turns out, isnât much.
You sigh, rubbing your temple. Looks like itâs going to be another long week of avoiding certain people and figuring out how to survive in a world that doesnât think you exist.
ââââââ ⥠ââââââ "He's looking for you."
You blink, frowning at your colleague. "What?"
The words catch you off guard. You were just here to formally quit your library job⌠politely, of course. Luckily, the woman in charge is reasonable, not the type to make a fuss.
Your supervisor barely glances up from her computer, fingers still tapping at the keyboard. "That guy. Xavier, was it?" She tilts her head slightly. "Heâs been asking about you. Came by a few times this week."
Your stomach twists.
You keep your expression neutral, though your mind is already racing. Why? What does he want?
"âŚWhat did you tell him?" you ask carefully.
She shrugs. "Just that youâve been out sick. He didnât ask much else, but he didnât look convinced either." She finally looks up, raising an eyebrow. "You in some kind of trouble?"
You force a laugh. "No, nothing like that."
She doesnât look entirely convinced, but she doesnât push. "Well, if you're here to quit, just sign this, and youâre good to go."
You nod, taking the paper with slightly unsteady hands.
Xavier is looking for you.
"The library gets more crowded when he's here." Your supervisor adds idly, tapping at her keyboard. "Those loud girls who can't keep their gossip to themselves⌠it's unbearable."
Of course, he is handsome, after all. You suppose it was only a matter of time before people started hovering around him like moths to a flame.
Not my problem anymore.
ââââââ ⥠ââââââ Xavier leans back in his chair, staring blankly at the paperwork spread across his desk. Itâs not that he canât focus, he just doesnât see the point. The words blur together, the numbers meaningless.
"Didnât you mess up your shoulder last week?""
The voice pulls him out of his thoughts. His colleague stands in the doorway, arms crossed, one brow raised.
Xavier barely reacts. He shifts slightly, rolling his shoulder with ease. Right. That.
"Heals fast." He mutters, flipping a page in the report.
"Uh-huh." Thereâs skepticism in the tone. "Looked pretty bad to me. Thought you were gonna need a sling."
Xavier exhales, resisting the urge to rub his temple. He shouldâve expected this. He had leaned into the whole thing just enough, winced at the right moments, let his grip falter slightly, made sure she noticed. And she did. She had looked at him. Talked to him.
But now she is gone. And pretending didnât matter anymore.
"You think too much." Xavier says simply, turning his attention back to the paperwork.
A scoff. "Sure. And you donât think enough." His colleague lingers for a second before stepping away.
His jaw tightens. His gaze flicks toward the stack of books on the edge of his desk, the ones he never actually needed, just an excuse to be there. Some had been recommended by her, offhand suggestions he pretended not to care about at the time.
He hopes sheâs okay.
That mark on her wrist⌠He hadnât meant to notice it. It was only a fleeting glimpse when she pulled her hand away, but the image stuck with him. The raw redness of irritated skin, the faint lines of something beneath it. Some new. Some old.
The thought doesnât sit well with him. It lingers, festering, gnawing at the edges of his mind.
Despite that, she still noticed him. Every time.
Even when she tried to keep her distance, her eyes would flicker toward him whenever he had a new injury, small glances, subtle frowns. She never asked, but he saw the way her fingers twitched, like she wanted to reach out but held herself back.
With a sigh, he reaches for those book, flipping it open absentmindedly. A small slip of paper flutters out, landing on his desk.
His eyes narrow.
Itâs a pharmacy receipt, nothing serious, just something over-the-counter, painkillers maybe, with the pharmacyâs name is printed at the top..
She must have bought it before vanishing. Maybe she even went there often.
His grip tightens around the paper.
An accident. A careless mistake.
But now, itâs his lead.

Originally for my friend in the LaDs server Iâm in.
After learning about Xavier's myth, finally, I'm feeling soft for him. Meanwhile I mostly started liking Xav more already because of my friend. So now I'm going to be soft about him on main.
When the light of the early morning sun filtered gently through the curtains of your apartment, you awoke to the feeling of an arm slung over your waist. Cradled gently in Xavier's arms, you carefully turn over to look at him. It wasn't as though seeing his sleeping face was uncommon, but it was as novel as the first time you'd been graced with the sight.
Despite his nature, Xavier always tried his best to be awake to spend time with you. Your hunting partner even had his notification volume at a decibel you were certain no one else ever would just to make sure he didn't miss your texts and calls when you were apart.
You couldn't help yourself and brushed your fingers over his forehead, brushing back the hair covering the skin there to plant a tender kiss on the uncovered area. A giggle had to be stifled when his nose scrunched a little and he pulled you deeper into his embrace, inadvertently forcing you to bury your face in his shoulder. There was a happy hum, barely there, when Xavier finished shifting you to be closer. The feeling was a bit ticklish as the vibrations of the noise rumbled in his throat.
You decided the dawn was too early to rise and begin the day, especially when your prince still yet slept. So you slowly sunk deeper into the peaceful quiet Xavier brought you and returned to the land of dreams to greet your lover. The noon sun would be next to bring you back to the waking world. Plenty of time to frolic in starlit fields with the man who would give you his everything just to make you happy.
The next you woke, the feeling of soft hands and softer kisses brought you into wakefulness. Xavier's fleeting touches gentling you into the waking world. "Good morning, my star. The night was long, but you were there in my dreams. So it wasn't too bad being asleep all this time," were the first words to light upon still sleep drowned ears. "Good morning, Xavier," you got out sleepily, smiling when he responded with another kiss; this time on the lips.
"We could stay here. There's still time," Xavier began. "Whatever you decide, whatever you want- I want that, too."
"We could. Buuut- I'm sure you're hungry by now," was your reply. Which was promptly met by a still bleary-eyed look of eagerness, your bunny-like boyfriend enjoying the idea of eating. "I've got you." And then you were being carefully scooped up into his arms and set down. He shuffled forward, holding you up while still rubbing the remaining drowsiness from sleep-soft features. The rest of the short noontime was spent in such a way. The two of you groggily moving together, Xavier taking care to hold up most of your weight and thoughtfully move thing and hand them to you when necessary. It was sweet. Your sleepy boy doing his best to help your equally sleepy self, holding onto you tight all the while.
He gave you a silent look of apology while you made breakfast, wishing he could do it for you. But while he was highly capable as a hunter, the kitchen was certainly not a battlefield he could brave. Which meant that whenever you caught glances of him whilst moving about the kitchen, you saw his eyes stuck to your form. Xavier's eyes never once strayed, watching you now that he was given the opportunity to stare. You were perfect in his eyes. So strong, so capable- Even able to do things he couldn't. You couldn't help matching his hopeless smile, teeth peeking out before your hand covered the upward curve of your lips. This was met with a pout and a certain hunter stalking towards you to move your hand. "Don't do that. I like your smile."
You were cheesing again. Silly man.
An entire day off spent together is a day well spent, no matter how you chose to fill those precious few hours.
A movie together, dinner, getting ready for bed...
Laying down with him, arms once again secure around your middle and face nuzzling into your nape with a tender "I love you", you wanted to do it all over again. All the simple and mundane days you got to spend with your shooting star that made all your wishes come true. You'd gather up all the stardust of the quiet moments together until next you could hold this fleeting star in your arms.
âď¸ silent cry
⌠pairing: xavier / gn!reader
⌠genre: hurt to comfort
⌠warnings: probably badly written breakdown, feeling of emptiness and loneliness
⌠word count: 1.6k words
áśť đ đ° .á: there was never no need to hide your tears and feelings behind a fake smile. not when he was always there for you
âË âŚ note: as a huge stay and a silent cry lover, i couldnât help myself but write this. this was probably the most fun i had while writing, though adding the lyrics into the story was harder than anticipated. stan stray kids yâall!! not proofread!
you had never been one to burden others with your feelings. perhaps it was that loud voice in your mind that kept on shouting to not annoy others around you, or just the fact that concerning people close to you filled you with guilt. youâve always been told you were strong, and strong people donât cry, right?
oh, how wrong everyone was. nobody knew that behind the smile you wore, behind every âiâm okayâ you uttered, your poor heart was sobbing loudly. you dared not to show your vulnerability to anyone, not even the ones you considered friends, or even family. to be seen as disappointment was burdening your chest like an anvil.
that happy mask you always wore, simply to make others happy, seemed to shatter the moment you stepped foot in your dark room. the mental heaviness of your body and thoughts left you only sighing into the darkness, your frame harshly hitting the mattress. there was no joy in your eyes. you, who used to smile brightly, felt like you were slowly dying.
no one knew, yet a part of you felt glad. they didnât deserve to be burdened by your troubles. even if no other person was there to listen to your nightly sobs and cries, you had made peace with that. for all you know, it was meant to be this way.
so there you were. in your room, dimly lit with the light radiating from your desk lamp, silently bawling your eyes out. your head laid on the pillow, the material of the sheet stained by the salty droplets of your tears. you werenât aware of how long you had been crying, or why you even felt like it. it just happened, and there was no way to stop it. no matter how hard you tried, how much you tried to hold the tears in, it only made you cry more and harder.
your eyes burned, head was throbbing like it was repeatedly hit by a hard piece of metal. you could barely see the outlines of the furniture with how blurry your eyesight was. you wish you could just turn it off, to never feel again. or⌠to have someone you could cry to. but there wasnât a person like that.
no one knew how you felt. at least, that was what you thought. one person knew all too well.
xavier was painfully aware of the pain in your eyes. the exhaustion behind your every smile. you were like a body without a soul, your gaze dull and almost empty. he wasnât someone to notice other peopleâs feelings, moreover, he didnât particularly care about the others.
but you werenât just other person for him. you were special. he wanted to be your support, the shoulder to cry on. he was willing to be of help to you, no matter what would make you happy. truly happy.
yet you never approached him, and xavier couldnât understand why. wouldnât it be easier for you to let go of everything you held in? he would listen to your silent cry, that much was something he made clear to himself. your happiness was the most important thing to him, so why wasnât it yours?
he was standing by your door, trying to listen to any sound coming from behind them. but your apartment was eerily quiet, as if you werenât even there. but he knew better. he knew you were inside, suffering on your own.
as you laid on your bed, aggressively wiping the uncontrollable tears flowing down your cheeks, a knock erupted through the space of your abode. in panic, you jumped up, running to the bathroom to look at yourself.
the sight wasnât pretty, it was anything but. your eyes were red, your hair a mess and face fully wet from tears. just the sight of yourself made you tear up even more. you bowed your head down, splashing handfuls of ice cold water on your face.
once you dried your face, you stumbled toward the door, possibly knocking something in the process. your hand made contact with the handle, and with a last deep breath, you swung the door open to reveal xavier.
âxavier! what are you doing here?â you mustered up the energy to smile brightly, hoping he would look over the red rim around your eyes.
you glanced down to notice a small box in his hand, and you immediately knew it were the macarons you liked the most. it was the packaging of it that gave away the content, and it made your heart flutter with genuine joy. even though it was a sparkle, it was enough.
âcan i come in?â xavier asked with his usual calm tone.
the question surprised you, but you let him in anyway. with how dark your apartment was, his step to your room was careful, mindful of his surroundings. you quietly followed behind him, silently wishing he would explain his visit.
once you stood by your bed, xavier placed the box on the nightstand, right under the lit lamp before facing you. that was when you noticed the knot in between his eyebrows, not very far from a frown.
before you could say anything, his hand grabbed onto yours, giving it a gentle squeeze. your gaze fell down to your intertwined hands, then back at him. your eyes were round in surprise, and you barely bit back a gasp that threatened to fall from your mouth.
âwhy are you smiling when you donât feel like it?â he whispered quietly, his free hand going up to cup your cheek.
he could feel the dried pathways of your tears beneath his palm. the cold water that you splashed your face with earlier didnât get rid of the evidence of your tears fully, as it appeared. the pad of his thumb grazed ever so gently against your skin, drawing soothing circles over your cheekbone.
âwhat are you talking about? iâm okay,â you lied with a smile, though you could feel the tears prickling behind your eyelids.
âyou always say that, but i can see how your heart sobs,â xavierâs voice was but a mere whisper as he drew you closer.
the forced smile began slowly faltering from your lips, and it was soon replaced by a quiver. without even realizing, a sob rippled through you, making it hard for you to hide your tears. one by one, like pearls falling from a torn necklace, tear droplets ran down your face. you couldnât continue pretending to be alright, not when xavier was around.
a wave of relief washed over the man standing in front of you. he smiled softly as he engulfed you in a warm embrace, letting your tears stain his sweater. he didnât mind. at least you werenât alone in this, you had him now.
âdonât be the only one hurting,â he murmured into the crown of your head, earning a choked cry as a reply.
you tried to muster up a response, but nothing more than a sob came out. xavier shushed you gently, wordlessly saying that words werenât needed.
careful with his movements, he settled on your bed. back leaning against the headboard, his arms reached out to pull you down on his lap. you had no energy to fight against it, in fact, you didnât even want to. his warmth was soothing, and somehow nostalgic.
xavierâs arms held you tightly, like youâd slip away from his grasp if he let go. you cried and cried, body trembling and tears falling. loud sobs and pained whimpers filled the room, the dark place of all your deep sorrows.
even in his arms, it still hurt. why did it all have to hurt so much? and what was it that hurt? you werenât even sure anymore. you couldnât even tell if you had a reason to cry at all. it all felt useless, and utterly pointless. it felt unfair that xavier had to deal with your feelings, wrong even. you should push him away, right? you were a deepspace hunter, his partner. you were meant to be strongâŚright?
just as you were about to pull away, still crying heavily, you felt xavierâs slender fingers on the back of your head, gently pushing your head onto his chest.
âlean on me. i wonât let you go,â he whispered close to your ear, his lips brushing against your temple as he planted a gentle kiss on it.
xavier sat there with you, not uttering a sound as you let every tear out. his left hand gently caressed your hair, untangling the knots with a gentle touch, while the other drew soothing patterns on your back. his sweater was pretty much soaked by the time you were done, but he couldnât care less. his favorite piece of clothing meant nothing compared to your happiness.
âthank you,â you managed to whisper, your voice hoarse and almost gone.
âyou donât have to thank me,â he shook his head, looking into your still teary eyes. âiâll listen to your silent cry. always.â
his lips touched your forehead, calloused hands cupping your cheeks. he softly brushed the tear trails away, keeping his gaze on you. his touch was gentle, comforting. this man, the one who killed wanderers without mercy, treated you with upmost love and care. as if every crevice of your body was made of the most fragile glass.
âwhen you lose strength, iâll hold you. iâll say âitâs okayâ to you. just donât cry alone, not when iâm here. not when iâm near,â xavier said in a quiet tone, leaning your head down to let you rest on his shoulder.
the heat of his body completely relaxed your muscles, putting your mind at ease. his chest slowly rose and fell as he breathed calmly, lulling you to sleep. your eyes began to close, and within a moment, you were asleep.
xavier didnât leave your side, he wouldnât dare. he stayed with you the whole night, occasionally waking up from his slumber to make sure you were sound asleep. as much as he valued his sleep, he valued you more.
he loved you more than anything.
Š xaviers-star-tassel
I've never fully understood why I feel so strongly in the manner of my death until very early this morning on a call with one of my good friends. I began to tell her how I wish to die, alone in the forest listening to the sound of wind blowing through the trees. Whatever age my death materializes makes no difference to me, as long as I have stayed true to myself, I will accept my end.
As I went on, I began to feel myself get excited at the idea of my body returning to the earth in a way in which the government would be most disappointed. I plan on disappearing, and every time I say it out loud, I'm met with uncomfortable stares and sometimes depending on who I say it to, I gain a lecture about how unfair that would be to my loved ones. Sure, whatever.
Why must people control every aspect of our lives in the name of loving us? I love you so you must... Even my own death wouldn't be mine if I allowed others to have a say in it. So much for final moments! The idea of dying in an institution meant for profit, then being placed in a plastic white bag to be brought down to a metal table, pumped full of chemicals, sounds exhausting.
Not to mention the viewing of my body in the morgue. Following with the wake, where everyone will show up in all black as if no other color exists, and cry as if losing me greatly affects how they wake up and make their coffee in the morning, ridiculous! Then there will be my subsequent burial or cremation, both are shit. Then a tombstone.
My tombstone would read something like Beloved Daughter and Mother. Is that all I amount to in this life, my titles? What about who I was? No, I'll gladly disappear into the woods and take my last moments away from prying eyes, medical supplies, and metal tables. Let my body break down into particles to enmesh with the earth the way it was intended to. Give me one final moment with the earth at the time of my death.

đ Cookie Chaos
⢠Xavier tries his best at baking, and though things donât go as planned, the day still ends with warmth and laughter.
đ Sylus đ Zayne đ Rafayel
The kitchen smelled faintly of sugar and butter, but it was far from calm. Chaos surrounded you: a cracked egg dripping onto the counter, a streak of flour-dusted across the stove, and somehow, a measuring cup wedged precariously in the sink.
âI donât think thatâs supposed to happenâŚâ you said, staring at the disaster that Xavier had managed to create in less than five minutes.
Xavier, standing amidst the wreckage, appeared entirely unbothered. His expression remained neutral as he wiped his hands on an already flour-streaked dish towel. âItâs fine. Iâm following the recipe.â
âXavier, youâre not following the recipe.â you replied, grabbing the half-cracked egg before it slid off the counter. âFor starters, it didnât tell you to whisk the flour. Or use a fork to do it.â
âThe whisk broke.â Xavier said, holding up the mangled remains of what was once a perfectly good whisk.
You stared at him, blinking in disbelief. âHow did you evenâ? You know what, never mind. Iâm not sure if I want to live in a world where that question has an answer.â
To be fair, youâd known this was a bad idea from the start. Xavier had a reputation for being banned from the kitchen by nearly everyone heâd ever cooked for, including you. But when heâd suggested baking cookies together, his calm insistence had somehow won you over.
âWeâre making memories.â heâd said in his usual flat tone, handing you a cookbook like that was a convincing argument.
Now, standing in the battlefield of batter, sugar, and broken utensils, you wondered if this was a memory youâd want to forget.
âOkay!â you said, rolling up your sleeves. âNew plan. Iâll handle the actual baking. YouâŚâ You paused, looking him up and down. âYou supervise.â
Xavier tilted his head slightly, considering your words. âSupervise?â
âYes.â you said firmly, grabbing a clean bowl. âThat means you stand over there, far away from anything fragile, flammable, or remotely edible.â
For a moment, you thought he might argue. Instead, he stepped back obediently, his expression as calm and unreadable as ever. He leaned against the counter, crossing his arms. âUnderstood. Iâll monitor your performance.â
You shot him a look but couldnât help the small laugh that escaped. âDonât monitor me too hard, or I might crack under the pressure.â
Xavierâs gaze flicked to the egg in your hand. âThe egg already cracked.â
You groaned, laughter bubbling up despite yourself. That was the thing about Xavierâhe could deliver a deadpan joke without so much as a twitch of emotion, making it impossible to tell if he was serious or just messing with you.
As you worked to salvage the cookie dough, Xavier watched quietly from his corner of the kitchen. Occasionally, heâd offer a completely unhelpful observation, like, âThat bowl looks unstable.â or âThe sugar distribution seems uneven.â
âYouâre really excelling at supervising.â you said dryly, glancing over your shoulder at him.
âThank you.â he replied, his tone so genuine that you couldnât help but smile.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the cookie dough was ready. You scooped it onto the baking sheet, carefully spacing each mound to avoid sticking.
âSee? Easy~â you said, placing the tray in the oven.
Xavier straightened slightly, peering at the tray through the glass. âYou forgot something.â
You raised an eyebrow, pretending to be calm. âWhat?â
He pointed at the counter. âThe chocolate chips.â
Your heart sank as you looked at the bowl of untouched chocolate chips sitting smugly on the counter.
âWell, weâll just call these sugar cookies.â you muttered, trying to sound nonchalant.
Xavier gave a small hum of agreement. âAdaptability is a strength.â
âOr we just messed up?â you said, leaning against the counter beside him.
âBoth can be true.â he replied.
The two of you fell into a comfortable silence as the cookies baked, the scent of butter and sugar gradually filling the kitchen. Despite the earlier chaos, it was difficult to stay frustrated. There was something oddly endearing about Xavierâs quiet presence, his calm demeanor grounding even the most absurd situations.
Then you glanced over and realized heâd fallen asleep.
Somehow, heâd managed to drift off standing up, his head tilted slightly to the side, his arms still crossed over his chest. You blinked, torn between amazement and exasperation.
âXavierâŚâ you said softly, poking his shoulder.
He stirred, his eyes opening slowly. âHm?â
âYou fell asleep.â
He blinked once, his expression as neutral as ever. âOnly briefly. I wasâŚmonitoring the cookies.â
You laughed, shaking your head. âSure you were.â
When the timer went off, you pulled the tray out of the oven, setting it on the counter to cool. The cookies werenât perfect some were a little lopsided, and they definitely couldâve used those chocolate chips, but they smelled wonderful.
Xavier picked one up, inspecting it with the same intensity heâd given the flour earlier. He took a bite, chewing thoughtfully.
âTheyâre good.â he said finally, his tone as even as ever.
You shot him a questioning look, raising an eyebrow. âThatâs it? Just âgoodâ?â
He glanced at you, his gaze softening slightly. âYou did well.â
There was a faint warmth in his voice, subtle but unmistakable. For someone as reserved as Xavier, it might as well have been a standing ovation.
You smiled, picking up a cookie of your own. âWell, we did it together. Guess youâre not entirely banned from the kitchen anymore.â
Xavier tilted his head, clearly considering your words. âI wouldnât count on that.â
Despite his deadpan delivery, there was a flicker of amusement in his eyes and together, you both sharing the cookies with occasional quiet laugh, you realized that maybe the chaos was worth it after all.
