My Mind Is A Machine That Turns Any Pieces Of Information Barely Related Into An Au Setting

one thing about flint that i find under-explored, but very endearing, is how awkward he is with people. the aggressive, off-putting persona he shows other pirates comes from many different reasons, but i feel a lot of people buy into the idea that it is completely born out of arrogance and superiority. when to me it makes most sense that a lot of times he just...does not know how to act with them. i am sure being a navy officer partly made him accustomed to hierarchy and a sense of necessary distance from subordinates. and yet even in a navy career there is a lot of use for some level of comradery. but due to his social status the few scenes we see of his past environment place him as a bit of an outcast in that setting. before meeting the hamiltons he seems like a very lonely person in general. showing extreme competence and pulling rank are probably the only ways he knows to gain favour. i don't think it ever occurs to him that he could be liked by people if he put his mind to it. and he reacts to this feeling by making himself as scary as possible and telling everyone that actually, i am the one that does not like you. it's hilarious and such a bad strategy. and the fact that almost no one clocks that fundamentally he is kind of shy really delights me. in a better universe we have silver teaching him how to go out for a beer at some point.
