In Sonic Battle (2004), Due to her research on Professor Gerald's research files, Rouge confirms that Shadow and Emerl have souls. (Despite Emerl being found by him in a separate project.) Souls both created to be exactly identical to Maria Robotnik's. Shadow was previously unaware of this.
