Otome Visual Vol. 1 Interview with Yokota Akemi, character designer for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V anime
I was given permission to translate a Chinese translation of the interview into English, but I got lazy so instead I’ve just picked out some points of interest and compiled them under the cut!
This interview mainly talks about the process of designing the characters, as well as the difference between the first drafts and the designs eventually used for the anime.

Why the fuck are there not any support cards for Lyriluscs?!
Why wont Hideki give me some spells or traps for my birds to support on?
I feel like this needs to be adressed…
(Personally) I want my birds to be meta. I know for a fact they are one of the most powerful and annoying monsters in all of Yugioh. They’re so powerful, unless you’re opponent restrics special summoning, controls a Hand Trap, negates monster effects, has a solemn, or ANY MIRROR FORCE archetype card that is not blazing or normal mirror force, then the archetype can OTK you in two turns. TWO TURNS. The things that keep them from being meta are the reasons listed before, plus the fact that they are mostly a hit or miss deck.
In my experiences as a Lyrilusc duelist, I always had the same strategy: Xyz summon Starling in the first turn, set a few traps, then in the second turn, set up by special spamming my flock of birds, link summoning Greatfly, then use the swallows to xyz summon Nightingale, and finally, OTK attempt. If it suceeds, I win, but if not, it only takes a few turns before I lose. Eventually, my strat is so predictable and so easily counterable I can’t even learn much from my victory or loss.
I don’t want to lose interest in my deck, I want my birds to have a little more creativity and more strategy built into it. And that’s why they need more cards. IMO, they should have spells or traps, although they could have more main or extra deck monsters (new nightingale form?). Point is, Konami needs to looks back to the archetypes they previously made and see if they are complete or not. It’s already happening with the updates made to Cyber Dragons, Blue eyes (for some fucking reason), and when they took the liberty of creating the Vampire archetype from GX.
What do you guys think? Which archetype do you think is not getting that much attention? How would you guys make it better? And if you guys are Lyrilusc users like me, what strategies would you implement that would make the deck more interesting? Leave a comment below
