Just when I thought Deku couldn't possibly feel any more pressured than he already does to beat AFO, chapter 304 burst through my expectations like the fucking Kool-aid man.
This boy just cannot catch a break. He's been pushing himself hard since that very first day on the beach. He started with a pretty clear path he wanted to follow, but it's gradually narrowed over this last year. And now he's reached the point where he can't diverge from it even if he wants to.
Before now there was always the option of passing OFA on to someone more capable, and we know he's considered it with Mirio. As much as it would hurt, there'd be at least some sense of relief. A heavy burden, lifted.
The other successors understood their place as just one part of a greater team. A life and death relay race where the goal isn't getting to the end the fastest, but rather strengthening the baton as much as possible along the way.
The fourth survived the longest, excluding AM, by using this strategy. The predecessors could focus on doing all they could with the power they had. The ultimate goal was getting OFA to the future. As long as it exists there is hope.
The freedom of passing it on was a safety net to fall back on. When Deku accepted the quirk, it was with the understanding that he, too, had the power to transfer it, even without consent. Keeping it was a choice.
But now? Now he can't even die without putting countless lives at risk. Can you imagine that pressure?
You're the last leg of a centuries long death-race and now, if you die, you not only nullify the efforts and deaths of your predecessors, but potentially leave millions of people stuck in a war they can't win? Imagine if there was only one weapon capable of preventing mass death, destruction and suffering, and it was tied to your small, fragile human life?
Deku's it, now. If he dies, he's essentially taking hope itself with him. He's leaving the world with less than he entered it with.
At least failure was an option for the others. Even if it meant their death, they could rest easy knowing they'd done their part by getting that metaphorical baton to the next runner.
When he agreed to take OFA, his goal was to become a hero who could save anyone. New goal?
Don't die before you kill the most dangerous person who has ever existed.

“I know I’ve told this story before, but my abusive ex refused to let me take birth control. I was on the pill until he found them in my purse. I went to the Student Health Center—they were completely unhelpful, choosing to lecture me about the importance of safe sex (recommending condoms) instead of actually listening to my problem. Then I went to Planned Parenthood. The Nurse Practitioner took one look at my fading bruises and stopped the exam. She called in the doctor. The doctor came in and simply asked me: “Are you ready to leave him?” When I denied that I was being abused, she didn’t argue with me. She just asked me what I needed. I said I need a birth control method that my boyfriend couldn’t detect. She recommended a few options and we decided on Depo. When I told her that my boyfriend read my emails and listened to my phone messages and was known to follow me, she suggested to do the Depo injections at off hours when the clinic was normally closed. She made a note in my chart and instructed the front desk never to leave messages for me—instead, she programmed her personal cell phone number into my phone under the name “Nora”. She told me she would call me to schedule my appointments; she wouldn’t leave a message, but I should call her back when I was able to. And that was it. No judgment. No lecture. She walked me to the door and told me to call her day or night if I needed anything. That she lived 5 blocks from campus and would come get me. That I wasn’t alone. That she just wanted me to be safe. I never called her to come to my rescue. But I have no doubt that she would have come if I had called. She kept me on Depo for a year, giving me those monthly injections in secret, helping me prevent a desperately unwanted pregnancy. I cannot thank Planned Parenthood enough for the work they do.”

I know I’ve reblogged this before, but it bears re-reblogging (?). This is how you respond to abuse, this is how you give people control over their bodies/uteruses, this is how you act as a generally non-judgmental and compassionate person. I love this story so fucking much.

Hi I have a theory! Ok so we know that UT mourns Vincent's death so what if he was trying to bring him back as bizarre doll? We know his body was burnt to ashes heck UT said it himself but if he had cinematic record and if he had supplement dead body MAYBE he could bring him back!! I know this theory has holes but it makes sense! Maybe UT needs a large amounts of blood for him to bring him into life! Still Idk if Sirius is Vincent amd that Ut suceeded at this point... what do you think thou?
Hi, sorry for my super late reply!!
Mmm, it’s a possibility but, personally I do not think UT is trying to bring back Vincent as a bizarre doll, or more precisely, maybe he might have wanted to revive him, but in the end couldn’t.
For one, UT said that Vincent’s body was burnt to the core, meaning that there’s nothing left of him. Idk, it was never really confirmed but I had always thought that Cinematic Records are attached to the brain (hence, all the stitches on the forehead of Bizarre Dolls and the fact that you have to smash their head to defeat them), so if that were indeed the case, Vincent’s cinematic records must have disappeared in the fire along with his body (his head).
Also, as I explained in this post, Undertaker’s line goes
“Poor thing, even the marrows of his bones were burnt. With that way of dying, … can’t …. anymore”.
The sentence was incomplete, so we don’t know 100% what he was trying to say, but the sentence structure heavily implies that he must have meant something along “Vincent can’t be revived/transformed into a bizarre doll anymore”. And right after that, he continues with
“Ah, but… there still is an “Earl Phantomhvie”, isn’t there“.
I know YP and the online scanlation translated this phrase as ”The ‘Earl Phantomhive’ still lives/is still with us“ but I strongly disagree with both translations and think they are a bit misleading because UT neither mentioned the word "live” nor “be with us” in the original language, but simply said “there is/exists (いる)”. To me it definitely sounded like he’s talking about “another” Earl Phantomhive who can replace Vincent for Undertaker’s goal (whatever that might be) and at the moment I think it is very likely that that specific “Earl Phantomhive” he was talking about in ch105 was
real Ciel.
And imo Violet’s reaction in ch125 pretty much confirmed that real Ciel is Sirius (Violet knew that Sirius looks like our Ciel since he was his blood donor and that’s why he was so scared when he saw our Ciel because he mistook him for Lord Sirius/real Ciel for a moment).
So personally, I do not think Undertaker would be able to revive Vincent in any form (be it a clone or a bizarre doll) and I assume that’s the very reason why UT cried in ch105 in the first place.
So that’s *my* take on the “UT tries to bring back Vincent” theory! :D
