I don’t think we talk about how important it is that Micke supports and even teases him about his sexuality and comes to the st. Lucia ceremony while also being an addict and being physical in a way that suggests abuse.

I say this because in nearly all LGBTQ media with minors a parent is either a perfect ally, or good in general and getting used to it, or they are both homo/transphobic and abusive in general. It is expected (at least in my conversations) that if the parent is accepting of that part of your identity with no other context , than you should be grateful and let them in. this applies to any olive branch from an abuser, but especially queer kids because not settling as a minority over the absolute bare minimum is always considered a flaw of themselves.

although Simon accepts the nice words, he still keeps his distance from his dad unless absolutely necessary and not for quality time (like getting his tutoring with the drugs) and doesn’t hide not wanting him there. this is never treated as Simón being selfish or icy.

this was healing for me. complex, not fully obvious representation of abusive patterns is so, so important. especially for viewers who see similarities in their own life

never understood why people want wilhelm to be the one obsessed and yearning and miserable over everything that goes wrong between them when simon is always equally obsessed, yearning and miserable. wilhelm took a jump of faith as small as holding fingers with simon and it already gave simon the courage to hop 20 steps further and kiss wille TWICE! wilhelm did as little as merely ask simon why he wasn't coming to rowing practice and simon challenged him to break all rules and leave the premise of school just to come on a date with him. wilhelm joined the choir for them to spend more time together and it elated simon so bad he nearly cut wille's ribcage open and jumped inside. he changed the school's 120 year old anthem into a love song for wilhelm after they'd been together for mere months and hadn't even officially dated! he quite literally breathed the very fabric of wille's sweater day and night those few weeks that they were broken up. after their break up in s3, he wanted to leave his hometown of 16 years cause everything in that small town reminded him of wille.... yes. wille's done many dramatic, embarrassing, lover boy acts for simon too, but simon is as much of a yearner and a lover, if not an even bigger one.
