Self-indulgent stuff with my self-insert and a few characters cause I've been feeling stressed lately. I think that they would be great at comforting others.
Que fofinho🥺

I'm proud of you too, Huey 🥰✊
she's being strong for him
Dang it I just got a thought. after the couples got together during one of the thunderstorms, one of the minis turn on music to drown out the thunder and dogday asks catnap to dance and with the music going downstairs prototype asks angel to dance and they just softly sway together in a little soft moment
Okay I just HAD to write something about this. Hope you enjoy it!
Pairing(s): DayNap, Prometheus.
Warnings: None!
"Do you guys like this song?"
There's a pause as Marie Long Legs lifts Julie up so she can properly adjust the sound. The small green bunny's ears twitch, and she scratches her back while waiting for a response. Marie nods: "It's pretty good".
The others agree. A thunder echoes outside, and you have to gently squeeze Picky's arm so she won't collapse next to you. Carefully, you let her rest on your lap. The song is now louder, and Julie is tapping her bunny feet against the wooden floor.
"No more bad thunders for us!", she proclaims. You nod in approval, and she jumps on her feet, other small critters following her lead.
"Maybe you guys should dance", you suggest to no one in particular. "Get all of that energy out".
The toys mutter and talk amongst each other, and, after making sure Picky is alright, you let go of her arm and stretch yourself, not keen on the idea of getting up from your spot. Elliot moves behind you, and you feel one of his arms drag you closer to him. You look up as he stares right at you, his eyes glowing red. You nod at him with a smile, dragging your blanket closer to you two.
Hoppy is already silently clapping her hands by the time you return your attention back to the kids. Julie copies her movement, the other small toys moving.
That's when Dogday gets up from the pile of cushions, pillows and blankets made for the occasion. He stretches his arms, and, with a small smile, turns towards Catnap, lazily spread across his own corner of the living room.
"May I have this dance?"
Theo blinks slowly, before playfully rolling his eyes and getting up from his spot. "Of course".
"Ew, romance", Hoppy shows her tongue, receiving a smack from Catnap's tail. She laughs way louder than what you were expecting for such a simple joke, and you smile. "Dumbass".
Catnap gets up on two legs, tail wagging behind him as Dogday holds him close. You could pinpoint the exact moment the feline's world melted away, leaving only his partner there. And Dogday knew it, chuckling in amusement as he guided Catnap on their little dance.
"Awnt", Bobby mutters, next to you and Picky. "It's like seeing a little royal ball!"
"Who's the prince, then?", Poppy asks, nodding to the song's rhythm.
"Dogday", the bear suggests. "And Catnap is also a prince, but he's from another kingdom".
"We're hearing you two, you know?", Dogday replies, still chuckling. Catnap is purring, a signal to everyone inside to know that, at least for now, they're all safe. "But I like the idea".
"Hm", Catnap agrees. "It's not too far to what you actually are in real life".
Poppy, Dogday and Bobby all chuckle, amused. Picky is genuinely smiling as well. You can see Bubba relax against the couch he's using, petting Bunzo without a care in the world. "Not too far from our D&D sessions, either", the elephant points out.
"Are you guys really leaving only us to dance?", Dogday asks, being spun by Catnap.
"Naaah", the feline complains. "Don't say that, it's more space for us".
Tlic, tlic, tlic, everyone hears, as Delight, ready as ever, jumps from her pile of pillows, leaving her book aside, energetically dancing her way towards you and the other girls. She offers her hand to Picky, grabbing her cane with her remaining one, and the two of them giggle before joining the dance floor.
"Ah, noooooo", Catnap laments, playfully hitting the duo with his tail. Dogday cannot stop giggling as he and his partner try to give space to Delight, who simply decides to occupy more and more.
"You're going to knock us out of the dance floor!", he accuses them.
"Uh-uh!", Delight objects, laughing out loud. "Hoppy, Kickin, come here, darlings! Marie, Poppy, you too~!"
It's not long before a majority of the toys join the main couple on their many attempts at dancing. You stay in your sofa for a while, before getting up and wrapping Crafty on a warm blanket. She smiles back at you, camera on hands as she films the disorganized symphony.
"I'll go check in your other parent", you tell the group. "Be right back!"
"Yeah, sure, dad", Kickin replies, causing everyone, including you, to laugh. You show your tongue to him, and he replies the gesture. "Nah!"
"Nah!", you repeat, leaving the living room.
You pause, knocking on the bedroom's door before entering. You can still hear the song Judy put on for everyone to dance to, even after you make sure the room is once again closed.
"Elliot?", you call.
"Angel?"
You put your hands on your hips, amused, as you watch the giant pile of flesh, fluff and metal get up from another pile, this time made of pillows, various plushies, and extra-large blankets sewn together to fit his form better. He grabs all the cloth that covers his face, revealing a fleshy cover with brilliant red eyes.
"Looks like no lightning has hit you", you observe, approaching the Prototype. He leaves room for you to sit on your bed. "Just wanted to see if you were okay. The kids are dancing in the living room".
"I heard", he mutters, before hiding his face in the blankets again. "I saw".
"You saw?"
"I taught Theo how to dance", he continued, ignoring how amused you were at how, despite all this time, he was stil as stealthy as ever. "Did I tell you this?"
"... Yes. More than once, in fact", you lie against him. "Do you want to tell me about it again?"
"...", Elliot replies. "No".
"No? But you love talking about that!"
"I know".
"Bad day?"
You yelp in surprise when, all of a sudden, he uncovers his face and human torso, grabbing you and dragging you out of bed. You hold Prototype for dear life as he laughs in your face, amused. "You fell for this again".
"You scared me!", you groan, being put back on the floor. Elliot had gotten out of the blankets while you were trying to not fall (as if he ever dropped you on purpose), his amalgamation of a body now free from the bed. "What is it now?"
"The kids are dancing, correct?", he repeats, partially using your voice. You nod: "You should dance".
"And you should get out of the bedroom for now. I don't want you to have another nightmare without me being nearby to help".
"I will get out of the bedroom. But we should dance, first".
"We?"
The Prototype then showed his hand, palm open for you to hold, like you always do. You shake your head, letting him drag you close to him. His touch is half-cold like a machine and half-warm like a normal person, and the way he moves is still a bit broken and unelegant here and there, but you cling to him.
Slowly, one step at a time, you and Elliot try to make a little dance, going back-and-forth. He smiles (or at least attempts this the best way he can), and you laugh when he tries to spin you around, only for you to almost fall out of his grasp.
"So/rry", he mutters. "We are not used to doing this as much as we want to".
"We, as in you and me, or you, as in you and the other yous?"
"Both".
"Hm".
The song still echoes in the background. It's soft and warm, and you give Elliot a hug as you two try to make-do of your dance. His torso seems to relax under your touch, just like how your mind does when he's around.
"We should dance more", you suggest. "May be a good habit to keep. You're gettind old, Elliot, don't want to see you forgetting how to move".
"I can't get old anymore. You, on the other hand...".
You yelped when Elliot lifted you up, spinning you around him, but not putting you down. No, no, he really wanted to hold you.
"You... You will. Which is why we should dance more. You're getting old".
"Wait at least 50 more years before saying that".
He chuckles. You roll your eyes and give him a kiss on the forehead, making him stop moving. Then it is your turn to laugh, getting on the floor again and holding his hands so he can follow you.
"C'mere, big guy. The kids are going to love this if the critters and Bunzo don't try to use you as a mountain to climb".
Elliot merely laughs, opting to simply follow your command.
So, did Smilling Critters really die out here? Wouldn't there be some kind of way for them to still be alive, or for the prototype to revive them? It's because I would like to see them here in your AU, mainly I would like to see CatNap apologize to them and have an emotional meeting with all of them.
(besides, you have a great AU, I loved it the first time it was posted :D)
AAAAAAAAA, thank you so much!!! I'm glad you like my AU!
I have been going on and off about letting the other Smiling Critters have a permanent death in my AU or not, but I think that for the "main version" of the AU they will be gone. Permanent type of gone.
In my own headcanons, PickyPiggy ate the remains of CraftyCorn, Bubba Bubbaphant and KickinChicken. I still don't know if I prefer her to have been so hungry she ended up turning on her friends, or if an accident happened and she was so hungry she ate their bodies. Either way, she also tried to attack Bobby, with Hoppy and Dogday stopping it from happening and leaving her behind. Hoppy died during an accident while the trio was running from Catnap, and Bobby died soon after. Again, I don't know how she died: Either a broken heart from losing so many of her friends, or from a critical injury from trying to save Dogday.
I think most of their bodies if not all of them were claimed by the Prototype, so in theory they could be brought back. In practice, however, all of this started because Elliot Ludwig couldn't accept the fact his daughter would be gone and desperately wanted her to have a chance to live. Angel and Prototype both know Dogday and Catnap miss their friends, and the duo's ever-increasing guilt is only going to get worse as they process their trauma, but bringing their friends back from the dead is not the way to do it. Deep down Angel wants to try that, but they can't and shouldn't. And it hurts, yes, but they can't allow the cycle to continue.
... ON THE OTHER HAND. Good God do I wish I could bring these dumb critters back from the dead, or at least make it so that Catnap trapped everyone/sent them to the Playtime Co's equivalent of the shadowrealm or maximum security prison, and Angel has to save them and stitch them back together during chapter 4. OR, EVEN, everyone discovering the other critters were still alive when the authorities go in to investigate the factory and find them very malnourished, but still alive.
IN MY OPINION Picky would have a hard time eating, thanks to her trying to eat her own friends. She goes vegan because even the smell of meat makes her stomach curl, and she decides to try gardening around the isolated house. She can't look most of the other toys in the face due to trauma, but she's trying so hard.
Kickin picked beef with both Mommy Long Legs and Kissy Missy. MLL finds him to be a sort of "annoying little brother", and Kissy is always making an >:( expression with some of the things Kickin tries to do. His way of coping is via trying to fill himself with hobbies. He gets diagnosed with ADHD and surprises no one.
Bobby has abandonment issues, becomes Long Legs' and Kissy's best friend, and now they NEVER leave each other's side. Bobby tries romance books and movies, only to realize what really soothes her anxious mind is, ironically, horror. And Doom. Lots of Doom. She also takes responsibility in helping take care of the younger toys, and I think she's also the first to fully accept Catnap's apologies. She hugs him and he becomes close to crying, then she starts sobbing and they're both hugging each other and crying. Her right arm needs extensive treatment due to her getting it badly injured, though.
Craftycorn has a 50/50 chance of becoming an Youtuber or influencer and no one can't change my mind, girl is the queen of MySpace /j. But being serious, she, much like Bobby, has abandonment issues, but is also TERRIFIED of the dark thanks to Playtime. It also takes her a long time to go back into drawing, and an even longer time to pick up any red pencils. It reminds her of blood. This however does end with her finding out drawing horrifying creatures helps her cope with her anxiety! Second to forgive Catnap and acquires an habit of making outfits and trinkets for the other toys. Also she has to wear braces on her hands and is always grumpy when her hands (hooves?) start hurting.
Bubba... My baby. My poorest boy. Mentally speaking, he seems to be the most well-adjusted, until he finds out he keeps forgetting what he reads or studies. He tries to play it cool, to be a helping hand to poor Dogday and Angel, tries to learn everything from the other toys so he can start making plans on what he wants to do for this future, but he just. Can't think about a future. And a few months later it's 3AM and he can't stop crying and chewing on his own pillows, and he feels awful and he keeps forgetting things and why does every little thing bothers him SO much, his recovery has been going so well, why is it happening? And then the flashbacks happen, and oooh boy, he does NOT escape the PTSD and burnout diagnosis. Much like Craftycorn he's extremely grumpy about his symptons, but Bobby and Crafty are trying to help him be kinder to himself.
Hoppy would probably need at least an year or two to physically recover from her injuries. She hates the fact her legs got so badly hurt during her time at Playco, and for the first few weeks she's grumpy, very easily startled, and very mean to others. It takes her the longest to even look at Catnap without wanting to murder him. Catnap sometimes wishes she had never started to forgive him, because now the only one left to forgive him is himself. Also I think Hoppy is the second one hit with the ADHD diagnosis, surprising no one.
Also. Ahem. All of them are besties with Miss Delight, who helps some of them try to understand Catnap more. Our big feline is constantly worrying about hurting his friends again and his guilt is eating him from the INSIDE OUT, but at least Dogday is there to help him. Speaking of which!
Don't tell anyone but Dogday has been smoking and drinking. He's 21, tired, and therapy is a long process. He thinks he's hiding well from everyone else (he can't be a bad example to them!) until, again, 3AM hits and he sees Mommy Long Legs smoking and Catnap coming back from the Prototype's barn smelling like alcohol. So all three of them stare at each other like "...", until they hear something falling down inside.
Surprise surprise, it's a drunk Angel.
THANKFULLY. These bad habits will eventually go away as, again, they recover from the trauma and start finding healthier coping mechanisms. But until then everything is MESSYYYYYY
... Okay now I'm once again reconsidering the idea of bringing them back from the dead or not rip-
Alternative ending for the game - instead of killing almost everyone, Angel is able to save all of them, bringing them outside. Authorities arrive soon after, and Angel drags all the toys to a nearby hospital in order to patch them up.
It's found family time.
Hi I really love your save everyone au and it has me hyper fixated on it for a week now! My personal question is does Angel ever have nightmares about the factory and their ptsd so badly that they actually wake up and start crying? How would the toys react? Also, how would the toys react if they found out Angel had any self harming coping mechanisms? (Sorry if that is too sensitive, I actually have self harmed myself when I felt like my existence was just making everyone around me miserable. And a I was going through a lot of stress at the time. I am actually 1 month clean now which I am super proud of. I hope you have a wonderful day and I appreciate you reading and potentially responding to my ask :DDDDDD
You got hyperfixated?! Oh my God 🥺💝😭!!!! I'm so glad you have been enjoying it, please don't be afrad to send me more asks and interact with my posts! I saw your comment on the AO3 fanfic and it made my day!
BEFORE WE START THIS, I just want to let you know that I'm so proud of you for going one entire month clean!!!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! The answer will be under the cut just for the safety of other people reading this, so let's go!
In the past, when my own trauma was still super fresh and I was alone, I unfortunately also had problems relating to self-harm and bad coping mechanisms. It was bad!!!! I have been clean for some time as well, thankfully, but I have been projecting some of that trauma juice(tm) over the toys, Prototype and Angel. And Angel, oh, dear...
I imagine they get some Awful nightmares. They had some during the past decade, but Angel thought of them more as stress dreams than "proper" nightmares related to their PTSD from their coworkers going missing. After the rescue, however, they do get actual nightmares related to their new trauma. They involve the toys being captured and/or taken away from Angel, Angel failing to save them, and the toys they couldn't save staring at them and asking them why didn't they come to the factory during those 10 long, long years. I think it's a matter of time until Angel can't prevent themself from waking up when another toy is already awake and breaking down in tears. Angel would try putting on a brave face, smiling softly as they always do and trying to help the toy to go back to sleep, but it doesn't work.
I think that the first one to see Angel like this is Dogday. Angel wakes up trying to reach to something - or rather, someone -, thinking for a moment their kids were taken away from them. Dogday asks them what's up, Angel tries to brush it off, but they're already crying at this point before Dogday gives them a hug.
When Angel eventually wakes up (Dogday is still good at luring others to sleep, despite all the horrors), they apologize to Dogday, but the big pup is already on high alert for what Angel has next. He tells Poppy, Mommy Long Legs, Delight and Catnap about it so everyone can make a plan on how to comfort Angel. They inevitably wake up in tears again some days later, but this time Dogday isn't the only one awake. I think that the older toys all hug Angel, because they know what it's like to be like this and they want to give Angel some of the kindness they gave to them. Angel ends up breaking down in tears before thanking the group.
During the decade post-HoJ, Angel did develop some self-harm habits. They have some scars they gave themself, and one really nasty one on their belly area from the time they got themself drunk and fell down on some glass. After that, Angel's family begged them to go to therapy. They still drink and still like drinking, but they never got to the point they were before. They also quit self-harm and have been doing clean for around 6 years before returning to the factory.
After the rescue, I think Angel's bad habits creep out again with drinking, some smoking and them overworking themself to take care of the toys. This time they're able to do a work-around their smoking and drinking problems before they could get as bad as before, but it's the toys and the Prototype who have to force Angel to sit down before scolding them with phrases like "how are you supposed to be the parent if you don't rest??? Uh???? UHHH????"
Angel's skin also gets really bad whenever they're stressed - the problem started from their first big trauma -, and post-rescue it sometimes comes back. Angel is more annoyed than worried at this point in time, thankfully.
I think Prototype is the first to take notice of Angel's scars. It's when Angel goes to "visit" him to drink a tiny bit and talk about the kids. It's summer, and Angel takes off their shirt and is only with a pair of baggy shorts + a binder Crafty made for them. The conversation is going as normal as it could be, when all of a sudden Proto just GRABS Angel's arm and asks them about the scars. Angel sighs. "These are old", Prototype takes notice. "Far too old and clean".
"You know why, don't you?", Angel asks. "I did those myself".
"Why?"
There's a pause. Angel sighs. "Because that's everything that helped me deal with the pain of losing all of my coworkers", they confess, not wanting to sound accusatory, not wanting to feel like a coward for doing that instead of running back to the factory (but again, Angel was never a coward. It's the trauma reshaping their own view of themself). "I got better. I don't do this anymore, the kids aren't at risk of my own lack of care for myself".
Prototype is silent for a moment. "I did no ask because of the children. I asked because of you".
Then, he points at his own body, both at the flesh and the wires and metal that made him himself. And although the hut's lights aren't the strongest, Angel can see some marks.
"I was often careless on purpose", Proto confesses. "Focusing on the physical pain helped more than remembering the children I doomed due to my own egoism. Protecting the few I could was all that mattered. I did not care about this body. Sometimes, I still don't".
Angel nods. They both understand what it is like. The human then drinks from their bottle of water, staring at nothing.
"It did get better for me", they tell the Prototype. "Been clean for seven years at this point. One day your scars will be old, too".
Prototype, too, drinks water. "You give me no option but to believe in your words, Angel".
"Good", they nod. "Your only way is up. Never down".
"Or, at least, never as down as we both were in the past".
That's when the human smiles. "That, too".
I can imagine one day during the summer where the family is playing with water guns and throwing water balloons at each other when a toy (maybe Bobby, Poppy, Catnap or even Bunzo) points at one of Angel's scars, asking them if they got that at the factory, and Angel takes one look at the almost-gone cut before replying that it wasn't because of the family's rescue, but something they did to themself post losing their coworkers. "I wasn't feeling well", they explain. "And doing that helped me deal with the pain, even though it hurt me. But I got better. I don't hurt myself anymore".
"Because you have us?", Bunzo asks, innocently.
"Not just that, bunny", they reply, petting him on the head. "I asked people for help and went to a nice doctor, so they could help me. And they did. It's been seven years since I last hurt myself".
"Oh...", and then Delight, covered in water, takes notice of the scar and explanation. She politely touches Angel's arms, before petting them.
"It healed very well", she notes.
"I know, right? I never told it would get this good, but it did. And now I guess it'll be your turn as well", and Angel then grabs a water gun and SPLASHED Delight, causing her to laugh and attack them back.
Later on, when Angel is helping Kissy try up, they feel Catnap headbonking their back. The feline licks Angel's arm before sitting next to them, just like how Dogday himself playfully did that just some hours before, in order to "kiss it better". Angel thanks Catnap, of course, before petting him.
They're glad for having them.
