" yeah, harlowe, why didn't you wanna match me ? " matty whined, crossing his arms over his chest dramatically, a phony but patronizing pout on his lips. " i can't believe you chose to be a misogynist, a woman-murderer, a white man . . . over my twin. "
truthfully , harlowe couldn’t care less about what the press had to say about their little encounter with one of the paparazzi . after spending a majority of the adolescence in the public eye , the negative press no longer fazes them . it’s cutthroat . and while it’d be GREAT if the paparazzi ceased to exist , they doubt that it’ll ever happen . at gwen’s question , harlowe shrugs and smirks lightly . “ i think they should count themselves lucky that i wasn’t driving . but honestly , i don’t care . there’ve been worse things said about me . ” exhibit a , the negative claims that satanic panic is back because they’d transitioned from their child star image to their rockstar brand . “ besides , i clearly don’t think they’ve learned . and i doubt they’ll ever learn . they swarmed tobey maguire before that . and i’m pretty sure they’ve even swarmed tom hanks when he was out with his wife . getting a swing in was justified . it’s not like i destroyed their five thousand dollar camera setup , y’know ? ”

ꨄ 𝅄 ❛ “ i saw that article about you , ” she mentioned , the words followed by a soft sigh . the press could be so brutal , and for what ? while gwen might've loved attention herself , she still detested the fact that the media had always been so eager to show the worst parts about a person during tense moments . it might've made them a quick buck , but from a moral standpoint , she couldn't stand it . “ if you ask me , i think you actually went a little easy on them , ” gwen told the other , shrugging . “ some people just need to learn how to respect personal space , really . hopefully they don't make the same mistake with someone else . how are you feeling since all of that went down anyways ? ”
“ well i guess you can’t say that there aren’t people who don’t care about you if they’re texting you ‘ stay safe ’ . no matter how fake it sounds , ” nalini lightly jests , in an attempt to at least lighten the mood . is she scared about vigilante striking again ? yes . but what are the chances that she’s high up on the killer’s list ? that’s something nalini doesn’t want to take a gamble on . but she supposes that she’s not that high up on his list . call it a coping mechanism . “ i wouldn’t put it past vigilante to start bugging our homes . at the very least , he’s hiding in someone’s bushes . maybe he rotates every night . ” it comes off as if she’s joking but again … coping mechanism ! “ i think i might bail before midnight . haven’t decided yet . what about you ? ”

eyes flick to her phone , another sigh slipping past lips . the screen barely dims before she stuffs it back into her pocket . “ i swear , if one more person texts me to ‘ stay safe ’ tonight , i’m gonna throw this thing at whoever looks at me funny next . i mean , come on — they’re acting like the psycho has been crouched in the bushes all night just waiting for me to step outside . sure , okay . ” shrugs , like it’s all a joke . ( call it selective ignorance , but noah simply doesn’t expect to be that high on the vigilante’s hit list . sure , there’s always a risk , but that’s half the point of showing up , right ? prove that she’s as unfazed as she looks — keep up appearances ) . “ guess that’s the whole plan , have us all living in panic mode , having us each thinking we’re next . anyway , you sticking around to tempt fate , or bailing before midnight like one of the smart ones ? ”
“ i see the theme you’re going for is irony . ” lips curl up into an amused smile . “ i think fallen angle might suit you better , ” nalini teases . despite the lighthearted nature , mirth doesn’t quite reach her eyes like it used to whenever she jokes with laurie . she’ll warily eye the liquor that spills out of his glass before refocusing her attention on him . “ how much have you had to drink ? i feel like the floor’s had more of that cocktail than you have . ”

" angel suits me, doesn't it ? " with a cocktail in hand, laurie did a little spin for the other to show off his outfit, a small splash of liquor falling to the floor. though his brain kept spinning beyond his circular movement, he felt he wasn't nearly as trashed as he could have been — progress, he reckoned ?
despite what the media has dubbed their ‘ resting bitch face ’ , lips can’t help but quirk up into an amused grin when they spot bash’s costume for the night . harlowe casually strolls over , drink in hand before stopping in front of the other . “ it’s a little pretentious but it’s an old fashioned , ” answers with a small shrug of their shoulders . “ but i guess it’s less pretentious than being that person who just orders whiskey on the rocks , ” they jest . nods towards him . “ what are you having ? something worthy of mr. flavortown himself ? ”

bash was glad to have some sort of distraction from the menacing letter that they had all recently got. a halloween party was the perfect thing to get it off everyone's mind. he was also hoping that people would understand his costume. it was a little on the goofier side of things but that's just who bash was. he loved a little goofy costume and a bad dad joke as much as anyone. so it made sense that he was dressed as mr. flavortown himself, guy fieri. when he saw a familiar face at the bar, he waved them over. "what are you drinking tonight?" he asked, over the loud music.

“ oh now i’m thinking i should’ve dressed up as a top gun character instead of patrick bateman ! ” harlowe walks up to matty , playfully bumping shoulders with the football player . “ it would save me the trouble of removing all this makeup later . ” gestures to the splattered fake blood with red rhinestones strategically placed on top . “ but i’m getting another use out of this suit so i guess that’s something . ”

“ woah –– hey ! ” harlowe grumbles as a drunk person barrels past them and nearly sends them stumbling into the other person behind them . fists remain curled up at their side . tonight is not the night to be starting a fight ! “ sorry , dude . you good ? i didn’t spill your drink did i ? ” they ask , turning to face ace . “ i swear , i should’ve left earlier . it only gets worse the later it gets . ”
harlowe lets out a light scoff and shakes their head . “ what event in LA doesn’t scream potential pr night ? ” they’ll ask rhetorically . hell , the reason why they’re here is specifically because of pr reasons . sure they got the invite , but if it weren’t for the insistence of both their manager and pr manager , would they really be here ? “ then i guess beverly media can call me trashy for the costume i chose , ” gestures to their patrick bateman getup . raincoat and bedazzled blood splatter makeup included ! “ you think i’d get brownie points for choosing someone who isn’t a masked maniac ? just a fictional maniac from a satirical horror movie ? ”

"does this whole event scream potential pr night to you or is it just me?" everett mused to the person closest to him. negative gossip in people magazine frightened him more than potentially getting posioned. "beverly media could easily spin people dressing up as murderous masked maniacs when there's an alleged murderous masked maniac on the loose as trashy and in poor taste." he mused. everett had enough of people who spent too much time on deuxmoi thinking he was a selfish monster. they had a point but it wasn't because he happened to fuck someone who hadn't signed his divorce papers yet.
“ oh you flatter me ! ” they’ll grin and shake their head fondly . “ i’d like to think i’m only interesting enough to stay in the spotlight because i have such amazing clients . ” they smile , reaching for their drink to take a small sip . “ yes ! exactly ! princess diana did that for a while . she wore the same sweater and shorts or something like that . i think a couple other celebrities also did that too , ” they muse with a light hum . “ listen ! i get it . it gives me a bit of an ego boost . do you ever just have one of those weeks where you don’t feel like dealing with them ? i think that method could apply there . or flipping off the cameras . heard that doesn’t get any pictures sold either . ”
“ i doubt that's the case , nalini . anyone who is making fantastic designs such as you , will always be entertaining enough to stay in the spotlight . ” though , she appreciates the humble response . grasping onto her beverage to take a small sip before proceeding with the conversation , “ oh , didn't princess diana do that for awhile ? i swear i've read that somewhere . regardless , that's something i'll have to keep in mind . . . though sometimes , i'll admit , i do enjoy it . ”
