@missmungoe you were so right to write fics about Makino joining the Red-Hair crew cause she really has that pirate trait of stealing.
Stealing Shanks' friends and crews that's it.
Bonus Boa Hancock and Makino, in that one shot where Mihawk and Buggy fetch Makino from her bar and she manages to 'stand in' as Red Hair Pirate representative of sorts to make alliance with Hancock.
Love love Makino and Hancock interaction in that fic where Shanks is about to get executed.
Makino unintentionally getting on the good sides of some dangerous pirates is so funny.
Been reading some of @missmungoe fanfics in AO3 with Shanks and Makino. I absolutely love that the few I've read, if there's Mihawk involvement, he automatically just gets along quick with Makino.
(I also adore Buggy's interaction with Makino in that spin off AU with Sabo getting to Makino first before Rayleigh)

What if Luffy never said his full name, or no one knew? Imagine in Marineford, during all this, Sengoku simply saying that Luffy is Shanks' son (and a waitress Makino cough cough)
Can you imagine everyone's reaction to that? Well, from the first episodes the fandom thought that Shanks and Makino were Luffy's parents. But what if the characters themselves think so? With this revelation during Marineford, imagine everyone's faces.

Mama's Boy
Well, literally, I believe that Makino has taken care of Luffy since he was a baby.
Garp appeared at the bar's door in the afternoon and simply asked Makino to take care of baby Luffy. She didn't even have time to speak because Garp simply left.
I see that Luffy would be a slightly silent child who only starts to cry when he gets hungry (Makino realized that every time Luffy cries it's because he was hungry.)

– When Luffy started to learn to walk, he started to walk a lot, he ran through the corridors and even if he fell, he would get up.
— As Luffy grew up, he loved running around the village and made friends easily, but there weren't many children in the village.

Makino takes him to the beach, and always kept an eye out if Luffy entered the sea, but most of the time he spent playing in the sand and eating food. Luffy doesn't know how to swim, so she keeps an eye on him. And Makino herself tried to teach him.
"Ma-chan, the sand doesn't taste like anything..." – says Luffy

One of Makino's greatest achievements was teaching Luffy to read (something difficult that took a long time), and when he started writing, she cried with pride.
‐ Makino had difficulty taking Luffy to the doctor, she needed to convince him by saying that she will give him meat later.
- Makino cried when Luffy said his first word (maybe it was 'meat' or 'mama').
