Day 28 (40 In Base 7) Of Re-writing My Novel Ft. The Great Coalition

Day 28 (40 in base 7) of re-writing my novel ft. The Great Coalition

Four weeks officially! This is so exciting!

Part Three is coming along greatly and I'm still so excited for its completion. As a follow-up to my post earlier today, let's talk about the Great Coalition.

Day 28 (40 In Base 7) Of Re-writing My Novel Ft. The Great Coalition

The Great Coalition

The only change to the flag was the black background on the right being added as symbolism for the Hero of Earth.

With the sole goal of recapturing Ir Nouzonif, Zenée, Tolftorrijv, Atepsi, Ytos, and Itaush all form the Great Coalition.

The Recapture of Ir Nouzonif

The White Army and Atepsi stage their armies at the Odapir border. Rebel groups in Pisteeks stage the Tolftijv army, and in Sedrosteks the Zenée army will set up on the border with Ir Nouzonif.

The Hero of Earth revealed that the President stole her technology to put an anti-magic barrier around Ir Nouzonif, so nobody will have their Gift once inside the city limits.

Ytos, Itaush, and the Atepsi navy are sent to guard the Eastern Sea and ensure that the President doesn't escape that way. Everyone knows her goal is to escape with the magic and the Heros of Life and Language's bodies. None of the four remaining Heroes can let that happen.

A free invitation to go off on main? It's hard NOT to pass this up.

I have been dying to talk recently about Tavisam, (M.I. tavisam, W.Z. tebisam, M.O. tawisaham.)

Tavisam is a sport much like American football or rugby, although admittedly less violent. The aim is simple: carry a large ball 120 m (to your opponent's goal.) It is nearly 1,000 years old, but only in the last 100 years has it become standardized.

Modern Tavisam

Modern Tavisam is played on a square field (120 m by 120 m) with fifteen players for each team, meaning each team has 30 players. The rules remain simple: carry the ball to your opponent's goal, which is a net at the other end of the field. The ball starts in the middle. Kicking, passing, rolling, and handing off the ball are all allowed.

While tackling isn't allowed, it's certainly a very physical game. It's completely allowed to take the ball from another player who's holding it. This often results in groups often all pulling on each other for the ball, especially to start the game.

To start the game, the ball is placed in the center of the field, and both teams must line up 12 m away from the ball. Once the horn (some fields still use a pistol blank) sounds, both teams race for possession of the ball.

If the ball goes out of bounds, the ball is replaced in the center, like the start of the game.

The goals at either end are 5 m tall and 15 m wide, placed due in the center.

The game can either end in a tie, win, or loss. The game ends after 120 minutes.

A foul is called at the referee's discretion. A foul is defined to be any act which could cause unnecessary harm to another player, including kicking, tackling, hitting, head-butting, or anything else which could injure another player.

Teams are allowed 2 substitutions every 30 minutes.

Historic Tavisam Games

University of Obizoe Tavisam Team vs. U. of Ir Nouzonif Tavisam Team

Summer of 855.

Outcome: Obizoe 12 - 2 Ir Nouzonif

Notes: The first recorded game of Tavisam played between two college teams, and also the first game in the East vs. West rivalry between Ir Nouzonif and Obizoe. It's said multiple fights broke out in the spectators' stands at the neutral site, played alongside the Great Inland Lake.

U. of Ir Nouzonif vs. Ir Nouzonif State U.

Autumn of 855

Outcome: UIN 5 - 3 INSU

Notes: The first game in the Ir Nouzonif rivalry: UIN vs. INSU. After losing the first 3 goals in 15 minutes, UIN pioneered the rotating defense on the fly. INSU didn't score another goal.

U. Obizoe vs. U. Tolftorrijv

Autumn of 855

Outcome: Obizoe 15 - 1 Tolftorrijv

Notes: Obizoe dominated Tolftorrijv in their first ever, true away game. Hearing about the rotating defense at UIN, they took it one step further and perfected it. The rotating defense would go unmatched for fifty years.

Odapir U. vs. UIN

Winter of 901

Outcome: Odapir 7 - 7 UIN

Notes: Many history writers say the sport stagnated until this game, when UIN agreed to play a historic Tavisam game with OU at a neutral site in Atepsi. UIN scored the first 4 goals, hunkering down with the rotating defense. Shockingly, OU deployed their weapon: the arrow attack. Without going into too much detail, they managed to draw the defense in on itself, and then take the defense away from the goal. Odapir scored the next 5. The game ended with a mob trampling the field once time ran out and the scoreboard read 7-7. This was also the beginning of the rivalry between OU and UIN.

Ir Nouzonif Admirals vs. Tolftorrijv Palms

Spring of 905

Outcome: INA 1 - 0 TT

Notes: The only goal in this game was scored with 5 minutes remaining on the clock in Tolftorrijv. This was also the first professional game, and INA figured out how to defend against the arrow attack.

I hope this is interesting!

In the context of Meiste, absolutely. It's only now that I realize I've never described the names of the characters, nor how they relate.

Iziser - A borrowing from Classical Zispoel "Izilseor," which is a name found in the Epic of the Hero of Life. It was once used to mean 'one who eats,' and metaphorically extended to 'one who is in love,' then 'one who loves.'

Hotautebz - Hotau is to literally ascend. It's an Old Ytos word for to ascend, plus "tebz" which is another old word for person.

Lozerief - Classical Zispoel for 'life,' definitely supposed to be a pun since she's the Hero of Earth, not life.

Are you the writer who carefully chooses OC names for their meanings, or are you the writer who picks whatever sounds good?

I have to wonder (in a non-conspiratorial way) if not teaching phonics is also part of an effort to dismantle public schools and keep people dumb.

Because literacy was historically used as a tool to reinforce class divides. It still remains that way in many places.

I used to be mad about "whole language" reading approaches in theory but now I work with school-age kids and I am mad about it in practice.

I can see a version of this prompt being very characteristic of Lozerief's unrequited love for the Hero of Life, although the Hero of Life (henceforth Dolgof) definitely cannot read minds. I imagine their interaction would go something like this:

Dolgof: Do you still think of me after all this time?

Lozerief: No shit I still do? You led me on for nearly seven-hundred years and expect me to just, I don't know, forget about it?

Dolgof: I didn't mean it like that, I just-

Lozerief: No, no. You misunderstand me. I still don't know if you know what you did, but it took a Zenestian civil war, a fifty-foot lava monster, and the world almost exploding, to get over those grueling centuries.

The whole thing probably ends with Lozerief teleporting off in a hot rage.

It’s been many years since you’ve stopped aging. You’ve seen nations rise and fall. Met, and forgotten countless people. One day, as you’re resting your eyes in a park, dreaming of a love long past, the person on the bench next to you speaks. “You think of me after all this time?”

While I plan on (eventually) setting up a website for the worldbuilding in my novel, this is still a helpful guide!

using tumblr as a worldbuilding wiki

if you’re a writer or creator like me, you know how essential worldbuilding is to crafting immersive stories. whether you're working on a fantasy novel, a game, or just enjoy creating intricate worlds, having a centralized place for all your worldbuilding details is crucial. enter tumblr—a platform that’s not only great for sharing content but also for organizing and showcasing your worldbuilding efforts. here's how you can use tumblr to create your very own worldbuilding wiki.

1. choose a consistent theme

your theme for your blog sets the tone for your world. you'll want to pick a theme that reflects the aesthetic of your world--whether its dark and gothic, bright and whimsical or something entirely unique. make sure its easy to navigate, and easy to read so visitors can find information without a hassle.

2. set-up pages for organization

use tumblr's page feature to create dedicated sections for different aspects of your world. for instance

home page: a brief introduction about your world, its history & geography

world overview: general information about your world, its history, and geography.

cultures & races: detailed descriptions of the various cultures, races & societies in your world

magic system: if applicable, explain the rules and mechanics of your world's magic

characters: profiles of important characters, complete with backgrounds, motivations, and relationships

3. tagging system

tags are essential for keeping your content organized. develop a tagging system that categorizes your posts effectively. some useful tags might include:

#worldbuilding

#lore

#characters

#magic

#maps

#history

#cultures

4. regular posts & updates

keep your worldbuilding wiki active by regularly posting new content. this can include detailed write-ups of specific locations, character backstories, snippets of history, or even concept art. use a queue to ensure you have a steady stream of content even during busy periods.

5. linking & cross-referencing

to make your wiki more user-friendly, include links within your posts that direct readers to related content. for example, if you mention a character in a post about a specific location, link to that character’s profile. this cross-referencing helps readers explore your world more thoroughly.

Day 26 (35 in base 7) of re-writing my novel

I finished Part Two today! I will celebrate tomorrow (somehow). It is ~21,000 words.

The very end of Part Two explores what it is like to exist as a body without magic. Check out the following excerpt. Keep in mind, there are a TON of spoilers right here.

I blinked again, and Dolgof was on the ground.

I staggered back, clawing for Hota's arm, pulling them back as well as I stared at the Hero of Life's limp body, laying up against the lemon tree. Behind her stood the Hero of Earth. She gripped a syringe with white knuckles.

"What did you do," I shouted, "you killed her!"

Fangs bared, she kicked the Hero of Life. "Go on, tell him your dirty lie," she growled.

"Come," Dolgof whispered. "She won't hurt you."

Against my better judgment, I knelt down beside her. Her breathing slowed. Her hand laid over her stomach. Her cheeks drooped with fatigue. She was barely alive now, and she wouldn't be for much longer.

"I hid so much from you," she continued. "I hid myself from you for eighteen years. Only now-" she coughed "-only now do I tell you that, In Iziser."

She struggled for a breath. I lifted her head up. "What, what," I cried. My body shook, tears forming behind my eyes. "What is it?"

"You're my son."

No.

"I'm  your mother, Izi."

I gasped and staggered back, hands covering my mouth until I fell hard on the ground. Hota picked me up. Still wielding her syringe, I begged the Hero of Earth, "what did you do to her?""I took her magic," she snarled. "I took the Hero of Language's, too. I'm going to combine them all, myself, and save Meiste. That's the easiest-no, only-way."

A body without magic is, too, aimless and stumbling through existence. An existence without the magic that fundamentally makes people people in Meiste is a painful one. Dolgof, once the Hero of Life, will remain a vegetable until the end of the novel, once they're able to reunite her and her magic.

Day 20 (26 in base 7) of rewriting my novel.

I did a lot of planning today, but I didn’t add any words to the novel today.

Also, a new character just kinda… popped out of nowhere yesterday while I was writing?
