There’s something very charming about the albums musicians make when they reach old age. There’s so much more quiet contemplation of life, a matured musical expression, a confidence in their musical identity, a knowledge that they need not put on the biggest brightest show, a soft dedication to the muse.

Albums like David Bowie’s Blackstar or The Next Day, Neil Young’s Prairie Wind, Roger Waters’ Is This The Life We Really Want, Pink Floyd’s Endless River, to name a few, exude a condensed energy of their life experiences and musical inclinations that have been sharpened and honed their entire lives. These kind of albums are so very special. I’m glad my favorite musicians continue to make music when they get old, because it has just as much meaning as it did when they were younger.

😭 omg girl he’s conceptualizing his moral standpoints about the world around him and the political landscape he inhabits through poetic verse 😂 lmao girl look he’s sitting at the piano crafting intricate melodies about the horrors of absence, war, greed, and existence in modern society 😭 girl i cannot make this up he’s literally constructing a psycial manifestation of his feeling of disconnection with his audience and those around him 😭

bands in the late 60s were like “due to record company requirements and amphetamines being available OTC in every drug store, we are releasing 2 of the best albums of all time within the space of a year. maybe 3 albums if we really hate each other.”

— DIDN’T THEY DO WELL T-SHIRT — 🎸

— DIDN’T THEY DO WELL T-SHIRT — 🎸

‘Didn’t They Do Well’ was a catchphrase from then popular British ‘The Generation Game’ show, produced by the BBC, in which four teams of people from the same family, but different generations, competed to win prizes. The programme was first broadcast in 1971 and ran until 1982, and again from 1990 until 2002.

Early in 1973 David Gilmour was snapped wearing this red ‘Didn’t They Do Well’ t-shirt in a series of poses whilst strumming a guitar and twiddling the knobs at his home recording studio in London.

I’ve always thought the recorded version of “walk with me sydney” sounds like the intro to a short mid 60s cartoon so I made some screencaps/concept art

Roger's Lockdown Sessions are really great. I really love their arrangement of Vera and its more cohesive blending with Bring the Boys Back Home, because (A) I've long yearned for Vera to be longer, and (B) something about hearing BTBBH in old Rog's voice...really hammers in how long he's been making that plea. Got me in my feelings on this dreary day.
