Definitely not?? For someone as egotistical and eager to prove himself as Grim is (he calls himself “great” and dreams of being a powerful mage), why wouldn’t he flex his smarts if he actually had them?

He doesn’t always want to do the work asked of him, but I get the sense that he genuinely overestimates his own abilities, (which is typically what lands him in trouble). This is a markedly different vibe than Leona’s laziness—where he can actually back up his attitude with intelligence and confidence. For example, if Grim truly was academically gifted but didn’t want to expend energy to study, he’d have found a workaround on his own to solve the problem (as Leona himself often does) or would be able to easily pass the test without studying at all. He wouldn’t get jebaited into asking Azul for help.

Grim is not a feline mastermind that could ace exams and manipulate everyone if he just applied himself. He’s not a schemer like how many other TWST boys are presented. He’s just a little meowmeow that wants to eat well, and that’s honestly fair 😭 Grim’s strengths lie in his loyalty to his friends!!
