They discovered a neat hack. It lets them accuse people of a crime so bad that reasonable people are reluctant to try to defend the accused. It also allows them to imagine the most extreme punishments on the accused. Also, the emotional response of revulsion makes you easy to be manipulated by people who want you to focus your energy on whatever you're disgusted by, whether real or not.

It also means they never have to question the morality of their behavior since the "them" they are targeting are so depraved it justifies almost any actions to stop them.

From a post on reddit about why certain people "are obsessed with pedos". I felt this was relevant here.

The original context was in relation to Q anon, but it's the exact same behavior that we see from antishippers.

I'm sorry but saying "don't write dark or taboo fiction or at least keep it private because it might trigger someone or someone might get off to it." is exactly like saying "don't talk about the abuse you suffered because it might trigger someone or someone might get off to it."

It is the exact same thing. Telling someone they aren't allowed to talk about their own lived experience because some random stranger might be triggered, made uncomfortable, or even aroused by it is unbelievably fucking disgusting.

Whether someone is writing dark/taboo fiction to cope or not is 100% irrelevant because someone else's trauma is not your business, and you can't know.

You shouldn't tell a victim to never talk about their trauma, so you shouldn't tell people what they can and cannot write about, because at the end of the day, you don't know and it's not your business. Block and mute things/people you don't want to see, and move the fuck on with your life.

a few reminders because i’m tired and angry

fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism

adult women aren’t inherently creepy for being in fandom and having hobbies apart from raising babies and doing taxes

the vast majority of people pushing back against the worrying trend of instigating harassment over fictional characters and relationships aren’t incest supporters or pedophiles, actually

liking a m/f ship doesn’t make someone a dirty heterosexual invading your space

preferring gay ships doesn’t make you ‘’woke’’ and good

no one owes you a disclaimer that they are a good person who recognizes that their favorite fictional villain’s actions are evil and that they don’t condone those actions irl

liking a fictional villain is in no way comparable to advocating abuse/murder/genocide/etc and you’re a fucking idiot if you believe that

just because a woman is attracted to a fictional villain doesn’t mean she’s promoting toxic relationships or going to end up in a toxic relationship. assuming women can’t tell fiction and reality apart stinks of internalized misogyny

some rando’s a/b/o fanfics have none of the level of influence that popular tv shows and movies spreading propaganda have

no one owes you a detailed description of their traumas and mental health problems

abusive relationships are not the same as enemies to lovers ships

y’all need to chill the fuck out over people, relationships, actions and events that don’t actually exist and learn how to enjoy and discuss them like normal people

fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism

feel free to add more

you gotta be able to say "die"

you gotta be able to say "suicide"

you gotta be able to talk about "sex"

they're uncomfortable topics, YEAH for SURE

because LIFE is uncomfortable. Death and suicide and sex and pain are straight up going to happen. not having words for the way it discomforts you doesn't make it more comfortable, it just makes you less able to reach out about it.

even more vital, you gotta be able to say words like "rape", "abuse", "queer" or "racist". cause we fought fucking hard to name those experiences. to identify "rape" as distinct from "sex" and "racism" as distinct from "acceptable behaviour" and "queer" as distinct from "invert"

like the function of communication is not to minimise immediate discomfort. we gotta be able to talk about stuff that's hard or sucks or causes difficult conversations.

Ya'll will put people actively supporting ongoing genocide, those who want trans people eradicated, and people who ship the wrong pair of blorbos on the same level of dangerous then wonder why no one treats your call outs and warnings of danger seriously anymore.

Rules, by Antis:

- You cannot romanticize anything bad.

- Anything I decide is romanticizing is romanticizing. Even if you argue otherwise.

- But it's ok if the media I like has a problematic relationship. Because it's not romanticizing, because I said so.

- You cannot age up that character, they are fictional do they'll always be a child.

- You also cannot ship that character, you have to treat them like a real person.

- Characters can't consent and we must protect them.

- Proshippers (real humans) we can treat poorly though.

- Proshippers are sexual harassers.

- But also, we can speculate about what their kinks are and if they have paraphilias or other fetish disorders.

- Cancel culture is totally cool.

- Don't cancel me for harassing proshippers though because it's okay when I do it.

Antis will literally call u a pedo with no context, further watering down the word until it means nothing. Your literally normalizing pedophilia more then we are by calling everyone you don't like it. Now when I see someone accuse another person of being a predator, I just assume their proship. FFS.

All I’m saying is, if y’all spent less time finding new Harmless Weirdos to hate on and spent more time learning to love yourself and embrace your truths unabashedly, you’d probably see where all us Harmless Weirdos are coming from

I feel like people forget incest victims exist in real life and you may not want to make your incest fan content extremely public with zero filter. A lot of people treat incest as a joke but it's actually so fucked up because family is who you're told to trust so the level of betrayal and disgust is unimaginable. I hope I made someone feel guilty with this post 👍

An explanation of the burden of proof fallacy.

This is how it should be when debating.

For those who say...

"Fiction effects reality on a 1:1 scale."

"Consuming ____ leads to ____."

"If you consume/like ____, you're a pedophile."

...it is YOUR responsibility to prove that claim.

I think being proship should be the default the way being feminist is the default.

No one's born thinking it's okay to harass, doxx, threaten, and alienate people. That is a learned behavior.

Me: hey so actually if real victims of incest, rape, grooming, ect tell you its really dehumanising to be told we're no different to literal 2D characters who do not exist, maybe you should listen

Antis: fucking kill yourself you ugly little pedo defender stop jacking off to little kids and wanting to fuck your dad

I decided this needed its own post, so--

Here's some context for ""The content of a piece of fiction does not reflect on the morality of its author."

and

"Your personal interpretation of the content of a piece of fiction does not reflect on the morality of it's author."

You can't say, "Well it's okay to judge the morality of an author based on their fiction if you're correctly interpreting that fiction."

Because, my friend, every person who interprets a piece of fiction believes that their interpretation is the correct one.

The tumblr user who recently posted believing that Hayao Miyazaki had nationalist beliefs and made movies that supported fascism believed that their interpretation was correct, and judged Miyazaki's morals based on that assumption.

The people who think Nabokov wrote Lolita as an endorsement of child abuse rather than a work of fiction against child abuse believe that their interpretation is correct, and judge the author based on that assumption.

The moment you allow yourself to judge an author's morals based on your assessment and interpretation of their fiction–

➡️ you are opening yourself up to falsely judging victims who were writing about the abuse and injustice they suffered or witnessed, because you falsely believed you were supposed to root for the abuser.

➡️ you are opening yourself up to falsely judging people who were writing about the horribleness of crime and abuse, and injustice who fumbled the message or didn't portray it in a way that is clear enough for you.

Unless and until an author comes out and tells you why they wrote a certain thing a certain way, you cannot know for certain why they wrote it. You cannot judge their moral intent.

If someone writes a horrible dystopia and then in an author's note says "I wrote this because I think this is the world we should live in and aspire to you" please, please judge them.

If someone writes a book about child abuse and gives an interview where they say "I believe that this is the way we should treat children, this is good and just" please, please judge them.

But you can't know. You can't believe that you know.

You have to judge people on their actions in the real world and their words that they say they believe, not the fiction that they create.

"READ MY DNI" no. use your block button like an adult. i'm not scrolling through the many-paragraphs-long pinned posts of every blog i reblog something from. if you insist certain types of people aren't welcome in the notes of your posts then it's your responsibility to curate that. or choose a closed social media platform like facebook or instagram. or go and live in a barn away from humanity if you really don't like sharing the world with people who are different from you

"Problematic Rape Story is disgusting and wrong because it normalizes/romanticizes/fetishizes real life crime! But Problematic Murder Story is okay because obviously everyone knows murder is wrong and the murderers are always portrayed as bad and no one is glamorizing their actions"

everytime I see antis call themselves punk I lose hope in the internet again

I don't know how to say this but policing people's right to create and consume any fiction they want AND advocating for the corporal punishment of "thought criminals" cannot and will not ever be punk. shut up

This Anti, Who Routinely Reblogs And Shows Support For Sending People Death Threats, Rape Threats, Infertility

This anti, who routinely reblogs and shows support for sending people death threats, rape threats, infertility threats and other much arguably more harmful content than fanfiction will ever be, broke their own DNI to reblog one of my posts, and when called out on their hypocrisy, blocked me and made this post.

Ordinarily, I'd let it go, but I'd like to use this instance to be blatant about why self-proclaimed proshippers tend to see antis as unreasonable hypocrites who cannot be seen as honest examples of the beliefs they uphold.

Because they don't. Uphold them.

(And, ironically, they use one of the core beliefs of proshipping in their own post attempting to avoid accountability for their own actions. If you don't like something, ignore it.)

@liashxlie, if you're ever open to having an actual discussion about this, feel free to unblock me. You have so much to say when nobody talks back. I'd love to see what you have to say when you're not just spouting violence and running away.

I was just thinking about how important it is to have authors (both fan and professional) with whom I feel... safely unsafe, if that makes sense.

Like, this is going to hurt, there are going to be things that happen to these characters that I absolutely Do Not Want to happen, but I trust you and I trust this ride.

no offense but some of y'all should really consume more weird media ok some of y'all are ready to clutch your pearls at the mere sight of the slightest offbeat concept in speculative fiction and this can't go on

DONT BE AFRAID TO COMMENT ON OLD FICS DONT BE AFRAID TO COMMENT ON FICS IN A FANDOM THE AUTHOR MAY NO LONGER BE ACTIVE IN. IF THE STORY IS STILL UP LET THEM KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS IT MIGHT JUST BE THE REMINDER THAT MAKES THEIR DAY.

SINCERELY SOMEONE WHO JUST GOT A REPLY THAT MADE ME WANNA MAKE THIS POST

🖤 Whether or not a taboo, unpleasant, or illegal subject in a piece of fiction has been 'romanticized' or 'glorified' is an entirely subjective opinion based on a personal reading of the text.

🖤 You cannot assume that an author is trying to make a taboo, unpleasant, or illegal subject seem appealing just because their writing made you feel like it was appealing.

🖤 'Glorifying' or 'romanticizing' a subject is not a good reason to say that a piece of fiction should be censored, or that the author or people who enjoy it should be harmed or punished.

🖤 Your personal interpretation of a piece of fiction does not reflect on the morality or psychology of the author of the fiction.

🖤 It is authoritarian to want to censor fiction based on your interpretation that the fiction is 'romanticizing' or 'glorifying' an unpleasant or illegal topic.

🖤 An author has no moral obligation to explicitly condemn taboo, unpleasant or illegal actions by characters in their fiction.

🖤 It is perfectly fine for an author to present terrible actions and events without holding the audience's hand to make sure they know they're wrong.

🖤 There is nothing wrong with writing a protagonist who does evil, immoral and illegal things without the author taking pains to make certain that the audience knows that they're wrong.

🖤 If you read a book and see taboo, criminal, or immoral actions as romantic, glorious, or something to aspire to, that is a you problem, not the author's problem.

🖤 An author is under no obligation to be their audience's morality teacher.

pink and green frog-themed AO3 site skin

Screenshot of the AO3 homepage. The header is a large picture of a hand-drawn frog sitting on a log and reading a book. The header's background is a very pale pink. The site background is a mid-toned green. The header menu and buttons are in a deep rose colour. The titles and highlight for favourite tags are both in a bright yellow-green. The font is Century Gothic.
The top of a fic. The page background is a mid-tone green but the background of the tags and the fic is the same pale pink as the header image. The buttons above the fic also have that same background colour and are outlined in a deep rose colour. They are also shaped like rounded trapezoids. Archive Warnings have been recoloured to purple. Characters are recoloured orange. Additional Tags are recoloured blue. Not shown, but Relationships are recoloured green. The title of the work and the author's name are in all-caps in the same colour as the borders. The text of the summary is a dark brown.
The work search page with the same aesthetics already mentioned.
the Post New Work page with the same aesthetics already mentioned.
The filter sidebar (mobile view). The sidebar itself has the same pale pink background already mentioned. The text is deep rose. The arrows have also been recoloured to match the text.
The fandoms page with the aesthetics already described.
the Anime & Manga fandom page. The buttons and backgrounds are as described already.
A Collection homepage for the Genuary 2022 collection. At the top of the page, the dashboard section has a bright yellow-green background. The rest of the look has been described.
The kudos, comment box, and footer. The kudos icon has been replaced by a frog holding a heart. The comment box is outlined in deep rose, background of light pink, and text input is white. The footer has a top boarder of white to separate it from the green of the overall page background. The footer itself is a deep rose colour and the text is white.

This one was frustrating at some points but mostly it was just a good time. If you'd like to try it out, I've posted the code (and instructions for how to implement a skin on your AO3 account) here.

dark mode galaxy-themed ao3 site skin

Screenshot of the AO3 homepage. The header is now an image of a galaxy full of colourful star clouds in pink, blue, and orange. The site's background is now a dark purple. Text and border colours come from the header image. The font is now Century Gothic.
The top of a fic. Buttons are outlined in neon blue and have bright purple text. Their background is the same as the page. Tags have been recoloured to make them easier to distinguish. Archive Warnings are orange. Relationships are pink. Characters are teal. Additional tags are light yellow/green.
Kudos are now purple and the kudos icon has been replaced by a neon star in blue and pink. The comment box has a starfield as the border. The footer has a neon blue top border. the headers are pink and the links are teal.
Work search. The form has a galaxy-themed border. The text is in neon pink.
The post new work form. The same aesthetics as the work search form. There is a callout box in orange at the top of the page indicating that * means Required
The filter sidebar. It has the same aesthetic as the work search form.
The All Fandoms landing page. Each Fandom category is in a box with a neon blue border. The text and links are the same colour.
The Anime & Manga landing page. Buttons are outlined in neon blue and have bright purple text.
A Collection landing page. The dashboard has the same background as the rest of the site. You can see which page you're on by an outline around the button.

Since the frog theme I made earlier was light mode, I decided to make a dark mode skin as well. This one is galaxy-themed and in shades of purple, pink, and blue.

You can get the code and instructions for how to use it here.
