I think Bakugou would kill for a lot of people but the only person he would die for without hesitation is Izuku and I think Izuku would die for a lot of people but the only person he would kill for without hesitation is Kacchan
They know how to deal with each other better
absolutely need every single character in hotd to go through the harrenhal haunted house experience
alicent criticism often strikes me as having the same vibes as the people watching a horror movie and going "i would have never done that, the characters died because they made stupid choices, i would have easily survived". alicent had her life stolen from her when she was a teenager forced to marry an old man and have his children. it's something so horrible that i feel like a large amount of people (and some characters, like rhaenyra) simply can't fit it into their worldview that something like that can just happen to you and instead go "well if that was me then it wouldn't have fundamentally destroyed me as a person. in her situation i would've turned out fine and my poison wouldn't be dripping through. i would easily be a good mother". i saw some people found it a stupid writing choice that rhaenyra thought alicent could stop the war because it is "obvious" that alicent has no control over what is going on, but i think that failure to see the real horror of alicent's situation is what destroyed their friendship and drove them apart. from the beginning rhaenyra thought alicent was choosing to marry her father. in return alicent failed to see the way rhaenyra was being targeted for grooming by daemon. i think they both engaged in victim blaming because "my friend is acting hurtful towards me, so i'm mad" is actually easier to deal with emotionally than "my friend had her entire life and personhood stolen from her and so have i"

âTeam green! No team black!â Shut the fuck up!! Just have Rhaenyra and Alicent settle this in bed DAMN
the tragedy of rhaenyra and alicent is that they cannot ever truly see the other without destroying the foundations of their own self-image. rhaenyra cannot see alicent as a child married to a man old enough to be her father because thatâs rhaenyraâs father. and the image she has of both viserys as a just and kind man and of herself as the beloved daughter of that man would collapse under the weight of that realisation. the resentment she holds against alicent would have to turn upon viserys. if she recognised that viserys treats alicent little better than a broodmare, she would have to realise that fundamentally that is all her mother was to him too. if she understood why alicent was disgusted by her marrying daemon she would have to see herself not as someone with agency marrying a man she loved who happened to be her uncle but as someone manipulated and groomed since childhood. the agency she clings to, which is so important to how she sees herself, would be revealed as an illusion. by extension she would have to see her family as one in which the familial is warped almost beyond repair. her self-image, so rooted in targaryen exceptionalism, would collapse.
likewise alicent cannot fully grasp why rhaenyra was so upset that she married viserys because she would have to fully see viserys not as the king but her friendâs father. she would have to face the horror of her life head on. moreover she would have to see viserys in her own father. for her to accept that rhaenyra is not selfish or undutiful for having affairs and trying to carve out whatever agency she can, the pedestal on which alicent places duty would have to be destroyed. she would have to realise that duty is only as important as she believes it to be, that it has no meaningful moral weight to it, and that all of her suffering has been for nothing. alicent tells herself that her sadness is a condition of her existence, as a woman, a mother, a daughter, and that by trying to claw whatever happiness she can from the world rhaenyra has turned her back on all of those things; she is the wrong kind of woman. if she could ever accept that rhaenyra had slept around and birthed bastards without judgement the core of alicentâs identity as a good mother/wife/queen would collapse. she would have to face the reality that nothing that happened to her was justified, and crucially that her submissiveness at every turn was not noble or good and was never going to let her win, but only trapped her further. every cognitive barrier she has built up to protect herself and provide some sort of meaning to a life in which she has only ever really suffered would have to shatter.
and they both realise these things to some extent, rhaenyra knows that viserys is flawed and fallible because sheâs experienced his mistakes firsthand (and she is definitely aware of daemonâs violence) and in many ways alicent is so viciously judgemental of rhaenyraâs choices because she wants that level of freedom so desperately for herself, and they so clearly love each other still that they both want to believe thereâs something good in the other. but they bury those doubts under layers and layers of cognitive dissonance so they donât have to face deeply painful realities, because neither of them can truly see the other without destroying themselves.
Idk if this is real or Iâm just going crazy from sleep deprivation, but am I the only one that thought in the most two recent episodes Rhaenyra and Alicent were being paralleled in their internalized misogyny? (Not a hate post, I love both of them and I think itâs impossible NOT to have internalized misogyny in that setting. Just talking about something I noticed.)
Like in episode two we see Alicent having Helaena do the whole political funeral thing, and itâs so obvious that before, during, and after it, Alicent sees herself in Helaena. The whole thing is like Alicent reliving her earliest days as Queen all over again where not only was she also just a political pawn for the men in her life, but also where her biggest fear started. This fear being something happening to the kids she was forced to have. While the political pawn thing is majorly important too to the generational misogyny discussion, I think the more major relation that registers within Alicentâs brain is the fear of her children dying, and her consciously forcing Helaena to suffer through an extended version of that pain, and it is what will be relevant later in my post. Keep that in mind.
Similarly, in episode three, we see Rhaenyra narrowing Rhaena down to nothing more than an idea of motherhood. Rhaenyra basically tells Rhaena that her main purpose in the war is to take care of her children, even though Rhaena is less than enthusiastic about it. Even before I made the distinction that I make in this post, this whole scene struck out as odd to me, because my first thought was âteenage Rhaenyra would have hated to be told this,â yet Rhaenyra didnât seem to care about Rhaenaâs feelings at all. And then I realized that was the point. Sure, Rhaenyraâs fear of motherhood surrounded around childbirth mainly, but still, her greatest fear had been motherhood for most of her life, specifically being forced to mother children she didnât want, and yet she forced it onto Rhaena without a second thought.
So. Alicentâs greatest fear, suffering the loss of a child, befell Helaena, and instead of comforting her in her time of need, Alicent furthered her daughterâs pain. Rhaenyraâs greatest fear, being forced into motherhood, was easy for her to force onto another young girl. Itâs disturbing, and shocking, and upsetting, but itâs such a good decision for their characters. It shows how easily women can forget their girlhood fears when they come into more power, contributing to the misogyny around them. But thatâs not all. Because then I realized something else.
Despite the idea haunting her for almost her entire life, Alicent never had to suffer the loss of a child. But Rhaenyra did.
And in the end, Rhaenyra did get to choose who the father of her children was, and when she had them. But Alicent didnât.
They lived each otherâs worst fears. It adds another layer of tragedy to them, because it would have been so easy for them to understand each other, their fears and grievances matching perfectly, but they never really got the chance because of how they viewed the other as having caused their issues in the first place. And even later, they get another chance to understand both themselves and each other through their daughters, but it makes no difference.
None of them will ever win, because they donât help each other. Everyone complaining that âso-and-soâ is better than âthis characterâ because âso-and-soâ is a true feminist and âthis character isnâtâ doesnât understand the point of the show.
The point is that they wonât help their mothers, they wonât help their best friends, and they wonât help their daughters. If you think any of the men in House Of The Dragon are an ideal image of feminismâŚ. I donât even know how youâre on my page in the first place. And all the women in the show are only looking out for their own best interests. Which is totally fair for the time period theyre in, and I would probably do the same. But it all goes to show that they couldâve been so much stronger if they all stood together.
rhaenyra not wanting to get married in the show and âdo her dutyâ has nothing to do with viserys âspoiling herâ or her being a âselfish bratâ but everything to do with watching her mother be forced into pregnancy over and over again, each time resulting in a dead baby and eventually DYING because of this; she views marriage as a death sentence.
"are you team green or team black on house of the drago-" i'm on the girls team. all the women on the show deserve to be picked up and transported to a place far far away from the pathetic little men on this show. all of the girls are valid and right. i will defend all of them to the death
I just listened to TTPD and why does literally every song fit Wolfstar so well? LikeâŚ. Before I supported the MsKingBean is Taylor Swift theory as a joke⌠but Iâm kind of starting to think it might be real.
"ANGEL", he calls me
does he know that i'm falling from a precipice that i tripped off long ago?
"DEVIL", you call me
but seem to be enjoying the fruits of my labour that came to me too young
This is so Hannigram coded
took a nap earlier. had a dream i posted "youre a transmasc waiting for top surgery, im a cannibal, lets arrange something mutually beneficial" and i had a thousand positive responses. then i woke up and fried some rice and watched smosh
L and Light are the funniest pairing to me bc they couldâve literally fucked in canon and it wouldnât have changed the story like at all
i either see gay ships as my two fathers or my son and his stupid little boyfriend
community is like au fanfic bc sometimes when you're watching a show you're like man i wish these characters were little gay detectives like law & order AND THEN IN COMMUNITY THEY ARE and the episode is called wolf pee or whatever
"your mom" is a metaphysical concept to me. when i make a "your mom" joke the last thing im thinking about is my friends actual moms, who i usually don't respect. the mom is a metaphor. the esoteric concept of mom. hope this helps.
every time i see a female character garner lots of hate she immediately becomes my favourite and i take my role as her defence attorney
I want to be her controversial younger girlfriend
You would think that after all that Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence, Daisy Ridley, Kelly Marie Tran and, most recently, Halle Bailey endured, we wouldâve learned our lesson. First, you said Rachel wasnât Latina / Latina enough; then you said she was Latina and therefore she canât be Snow White.
Yâall spent years criticizing the princesses, â namely Snow White â calling them âweakâ and âpassiveâ, saying that young girls shouldnât aspire to be them and shaming those people that did. Disney heard you and decided âFine, weâll give her a more modern update,â and tasked Rachel with playing her.
Now yâall wanna do a complete 180 and want to claim that Snow White is âsacrilegeâ and was always a beautiful role model. Youâre calling on Rachel to quit, calling her ungrateful for her role (nevermind that these photos exists), saying she âruined the movieâ for you, and hoping the movie fails based on an out-of-context 5-second Tiktok clip from a year old video. Disney creatives are the ones who made the decision to portray Snow White this way; Rachel is merely her vessel. What is wrong with yâall?!
Not to mention that yâall have the Audacityâ˘ď¸ to compare her handling of this whole thing to Halle Baileyâs handling of the racist campaigns against her. Rachel doesnât it to owe to you to handle all of this with grace, by staying quiet and putting on a brave face. This constant barrage of hate and over analyzation of everything she says, does, and thinks is clearly taking a toll on her. (Also, Halle has signaled her support for Rachel, so just try pitting these two against each other again.)
Yâall need to realize that you are bullying a 22 year old for sport and have no shame for it. Itâs sickening. I am exhausted from watching female actresses get torn apart on social media, at this point for just existing.
We just had âBarbieâ come out â a movie that famously talks about the difficulties of being a woman and how no matter what you do, no matter how hard you work or how hard you try, nothing you do will be ever be enough. Everyone missed the message. Iâm disappointed, but shit am I not surprised.
maturing is the âwait, she didnât even say let them eat cake?â -> âomg marie antoinette did nothing wrong sofia coppola is a geniusâ -> âmaybe marie antoinette is not a supervillain but is not an angel eitherâ pipeline
perpetually torn between:
taking classic literature seriously and over analysing every detail so that I can deeply understand themes, motifs and references and absorb every poetic quote into my being OR treating classics as if they were just silly little stories about silly little gay people doing the most weird, unhinged and out of context shit ever (which they are)
THIS IS SUCH A LAYERED JOKE đ
maybe togachako will be canon in the Spanish dub
Thank you @platonicasever and everyone who got me to 100 reblogs!
Labour by Paris Paloma is for Alicent Hightower and Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo is for Rhaenyra Targaryen. Just for if anyone was wondering.
