Penelope and Callisto use to secretly date in high school. They met at the beginning of their final year of high school but broke up just before graduation. While they were compatible with one another, it was their family problems that drove them apart.

Callisto's relationship with his stepmother was downright hostile and Penelope was still clinging to the possibility that her family might love her. They both tried to not let it affect their romantic life but there was only so much they could have done given that they both were about to graduate and possibly go to different universities.

This all resulted in a massive argument between them that ultimately led them to break up.

They graduated high school got into different colleges, graduated from said colleges and got jobs and try to move on with their lives. The key word being tried. While they didn't want to admit it, they still miss one another and all the good times they had even if it was for a short time.

Years later they've both gotten promoted in their jobs. Their companies just so happen to collab with each other on a big project. Penelope and Callisto who are very hard workers in their jobs are chosen by their respective companies to be a part of this project, they think it will be just like every other assignment they've done before.

So imagine their surprise when they see each other at the beginning of the program. Their minds are like "Oh shit, what is he/she doing here?" while keeping a poker face. They decide right then and there to avoid each other as subtly as possible to avoid drama but low and behold their place in the same group together.

Not a problem they'll just do what they do best, ignore the problem till it goes away or till they have no choice but to confront it. The two of them decided that avoiding each other outside of work is the best option and all seems to go well...…....for a while.

You see, Penelope and Callisto work very well together despite trying to avoid any other interaction with one another. But even then they tend to bicker and throw jabs at one another at every chance they get.

Their other group members have collectively agreed that they are made for one another. Cut to them trying their best to get Penelope and Callisto to spend as much time together as possible without it being too suspicious.

This leads to both parties feeling emotionally drained at the end of every day from all the mental gymnastics they're doing around each other. They catch on to what their colleges are doing but don't have the time to tell them to stop, plus they'd prefer not to go around explaining that the person the group is trying to set them up with is the high school ex.

But soon they settle into their temporary routines and sparks are beginning to fly between to two. They're more comfortable around each other now and are reminded of how things were between them when they started dating years ago.

Everything is going normal until months later when they hit an important milestone in their project. To celebrate, their bosses take their workers out for a few drinks. You can see where this is going.

Long story short, Penelope and Callisto both get drunk, head off to Callisto's apartment and had sex, they went at it the whole night and slept till noon and would have missed work if it wasn't a Saturday.

Suffice it to say they were horrified when they woke up. To make matters worse, Penelope can't leave cause there is a massive storm outside, the streets are flooding and people are advised to remain indoors. So they've stuck indoors...…with each other...….not a problem at all.

They are a little awkward around each other since this is their first time in years interacting with each other outside of work. Things were a little tense on day one but they settled into a temporary routine by day two and were comfortable sharing a space together. But they could only ignore the massive elephant in the room for so long.

One of them finally brought up the topic that they indeed slept together the night before. Their both not embarrassed by this considering they were each other's first in high school. But the conversation inevitably shifts to their nasty breakup literally a week before graduation, and that leads them to bring up some still painful memories about the families they've since cut off from their lives.

To them, there was just too much happening all at once so suddenly. Things got tense in their respective households, they had to prepare for graduation, prepare college and all that jazz. They didn't seem to have time to process their emotions back then which lead to them braking up on such bad terms.

But now they're older and have worked through their issues over the years. However, they genuinely never expected to see one another again after going to separate colleges.

So after a very long talk, they decided to give their relationship another chance. They took things slow at the beginning which escalated to going on trips together and moving in together. After two years Callisto proposed, they got married, bought a house and had kids.

Soul mark au

Humans have soul marks, a picture on their skin representing the one person who compliments them, helps them grow, keeps them safe. Some people have multiple soul marks, some only one, and some not at all.

Ghosts have Fraid marks, images or features in their appearance that reflect the members of their Fright.

Danny has had his soul mates, Sam and Tucker, for years. Sometimes, he'll find an odd colored bruise that lingers and doesn't hurt, but he doesn't think much of it.

Then he dies. His ghost form only shows his face, all other skin hidden away. It takes a while before he can bring himself to check that his soul marks are still there. It takes longer still to learn about Fraid marks.

"Why does everyone here wear sashes anyway?" Danny asked one day, while stopping by the Far Frozen.

"We are a Fraid. We are all similar in many ways, so we manifested another way to show our inclusion in other Fraids," Frostbite responded easily.

"What do you mean?" Danny asked, confused.

"Our Fraid marks," Frostbite said, indicating his own, "Many beings of the Realms have their own way to show their marks, but we have no skin to show, and not all of us appreciate colored fur. This might be our Lair, but we have our own predators here if we aren't careful."

"What are Fraid marks?"

"Marks that show our allies and allegiances. Your human friends may even have their own marks."

"Sam and Tucker are my soul mates. I've had their marks forever. My sister, Jazz's too. But I haven't gotten new marks since I became a halfa."

"Didn't you notice?" Frostbite asked, amused. "You are a human ghost with fangs, pointed ears, and claws. You are here to check on other physical changes. Many of your friends in the Realms are not human, or have a very distinct non-humanoid form. Fraid marks are much more versatile than human, or even liminal, marks."
