A/N: This was another thing I had done for Whumptober lol and never posted. This was day 12: Cannibalism

Dazai stared down at the fresh bowl of ramen Chuuya had graciously decided to make for him after he, on a whim as he told Chuuya, broke into the luxurious penthouse far above the city of Yokohama. Dazai wasn’t hungry and he had a feeling his typical ‘problem’ would show face again.

It was a problem he didn’t tell anyone, not even Chuuya. While Chuuya likely had an idea of what Dazai’s problem with food was, there was simply no way he knew exactly what the problem was, and Dazai was determined to keep it that way.

Dazai looked away, resting his head in his right palm as he looked to his left.

Chuuya let out a growl, “You better fucking eat, you piece of shit.”

They both knew that Chuuya would never expect Dazai to eat all, let alone half of the bowl. Dazai also knew, though, that Chuuya would be mad if he didn’t touch any of it. Dazai had asked for Chuuya to make some after all. Well- actually, ‘asked’ is the wrong word, more like he pestered Chuuya until he did.

Dazai had actually wanted some, despite not being hungry. Chuuya’s cooking was rather good and was one of the few people’s cooking he could stomach to eat a decent amount of.

Now, however, Dazai was struggling to bring his eyes down to the bowl. He knew it was ramen, of course he did, but… ramen certainly isn’t what his eyes were seeing.

If Dazai looked down he’d be met with the sight of two eyes staring back up at him in a mess of intestines and blood.

Dazai rubbed aggressively at his eyes for a few seconds and when he looked back down the hallucination was gone. Gone was the bowl filled to the brim with human parts and back was the bowl of delicious looking ramen.

Dazai swallowed down the lump in his throat and picked up the chopsticks. If he wanted to be able to eat anything he had to now before the hallucination came back to deceive his eyes.

Chuuya watched as Dazai rubbed aggressively at his eyes before looking down at the ramen and digging in. It was rare to see him eat so quickly. Chuuya could feel something was off but whatever it was gone now. Chuuya let it slide as long as Dazai was eating. Chuuya looked down at his own bowl of ramen and began eating, with a little less rigor as Dazai, of course.

BSD chapter 121 – SPOILER / "THEORY"

Something i haven't seen anyone else point out, is that in the last pannel of the chapter, "Dazais" clothes clearly don't fit him

For comparison, both from the same chapter

His coat is clearly too big for him. The sleeves hang too low, usually just below the elbow, now down to his wrists.

His pants don't fit him either, although the coat hides it pretty well.

Overall his clothes are significally more baggy.

His hair is also parted diffrently. Dazais hair is almost always parted down the middle. First I thought his hair was being blown by the wind – thusly messing the parting – but one look at the hem of the coat proved me wrong.

The right side of his hair is instead longer then the left side.

He also seems to not have his neck bandage. The longer then usual sleeves concealing his arm bandages (or the lack thereoff).

"Dazai" is morphing into someone else. Which brings me to:

Atsushi is shorter then Dazai, making Dazais clothes most likely too big for him.

The longer side of Atsushis hair is the right one. The parting of hair – while not exact – seems to also match our resident tiger lad.

The illusion of Dazai is being torn apart, as Atsushi realizes its true nature. His own thoughts, fleelings, and conclusions wearing a Dazai themed Halloween mask.

When Atsushi says he 'knows who you are, he's not talking about Dazai or the hallucination, but *himself.*

Atsushi has never needed someone else to tell him to live, but he has always felt like he does.

To be less extra 'bout it, i think Atsushi groked what he is and is going use that to save Akutagawa / kick Fyodors ass.

I feel like a lot of people misunderstand the relationship between Verlaine and Chuuya. There's a lot of argument over whether they're biologically brothers or not. That's not the point. The point is how they came into the world and their unnatural birth. Or, at least, how Verlaine perceives it. He sees both him and Chuuya as artificial beings that will never be human no matter how hard they may try, so they may as well stop trying to fit in with these disgusting humans and just find solace in each other. He calls Chuuya his brother because he feels like he's the only one who can truly understand what he's going through. Their "brothership" stems from their shared existence as artificial beings. This is why Chuuya rejects it so violently at first. He doesn't want to be anything like the man who slaughtered his friends. He wants to be human.

Then, throughout the book, Chuuya comes to accept that however he came into this world, naturally or otherwise, he chooses to be human, and that's what it's important. His actions are what make him human. Verlaine learns this, too, but it's already far too late. He, too, had the chance to be human, but he was too focused on the possibility of being inhuman instead of actually trying to be a good person or to accept the care and support of his friend, Rimbaud, and now, he's gone. That is the tragedy of his story. He always had the opportunity to be human, but he threw it away for the sake of anger and hatred.

Only when they have both learned this lesson that Chuuya accepts Verlaine as his brother. Not because they're biologically related or anything, but because they do have this shared experience with one another, and he's here for him. Not because he forgives him for what he did. But because he has an opportunity to be better.
