Btw much as I love to make fun of twitter and reddit's business decisions, I have 0% trust in tumblr's management to not go a similar route so this is your gentle reminder that you should regularly go to your blog settings to export your blog. That's a fancy way of saying you can download a backup of your blog so if everything goes down you'll still have a backup of your posts & convos.

tbh it's giving too strong [S] Game Over vibes. For the uninfected by Homestuck: multiple high stakes/large showdowns resolve at the same time in a FAST, flashy manner. What was supposed to be mid-to-lategame tier improvement of the boardstate - so to speak - turns out to be the villains winning/not losing on ALL fronts and the setting getting chunked. This put the fandom in high hysterics, but theorycrafters kept cool heads, as sudden 'rock falls everyone dies' out the left field is a marker of "this is splinter timeline that will grandfather paradox itself out of existence".

We have not only Wells for that, but also sheer ??? on how the Page/Book works. Is the page tearing metaphorical, or literal? If the events break the Book's willing suspension of disbelief*, does it mean that entire bit gets snapped back? Since the Book exists, does that mean there's always a "in case there are no sentients capable of writing, load from a save point"? Is this to opportunistically smoke out whoever is holding it (if sb does), even before world domination enables rerolling the main objective, if only for "bruteforce the location of the Book with critical mass of perfectly loyal pawns"?.

Like, of course the world isn't going to get nuked. HOWEVER, the other thing noone is talking about is absolutely on the board: Fukuchi is stopped, vampires are unvamp'd, day is saved - but it's impossible to cover up.

Think about it: the broader populace gets to know/is forced to acknowledge there are funky magic powers, and they're dangerous. One (1) magic guy almost took over the world/ended the world, using a magic sword (probably also made by an ability user), with another ability user impaled onto it, using YET ANOTHER magic artifact. Even if you gloss over details, that's a large chunk of populace traumatized over it, which will make the issue very personal to many people at the same time (which as a meta read would double as shadowing at least western trends of populism/censorship. abilities as independent thought/communicating differences/mental illness, yeah? Given Fukuchi and Dostoy being like that, Gogol tagging along for shits and giggles, Sigma out of desire to belong, Bram out of resignation…). Like, what does Dostoy get out of DoA's stated goal? Only needing to manipulate 1 person('s perception). But if it fails late enough (like right now), suddenly countries keeping intel on ability users and Eyes of God become threats.

...wouldn't it be funny if intel from Teruko revealed there is in fact a Gambit Pileup ongoing, as in: the currently stated objective is fake to pull the rug from under Dostoy at the last moment?

And we still don't know what's the deal with Yokohama foreign settlement. Even if most ppl don't know the details behind the scenes, this has to be a political shitshow. Why did One Order fall into hand of terrorists? How did Fukuchi get into position for it? Why/How Hunting Dogs? Bram in his entirety is an enormous 'Failed a Spot Check' for SO MANY groups of interest. If the last one is answered with "This must be the work of an enemy stand! ability!" (Seventh Agency!), it's just going to reinforce 'abilities bad'.

As a bonus, when are we getting explanation on "14 years ago, Tokoyami island suddenly appeared" (c65p17) and is absolutely crucial to gain military control over, ASAP and regardless of frontlines elsewhere, Because Reasons. Sounds like a Page. It sets up the above, which timeline-wise is after V/sus screenplay mention in Untold Origins(?). With Teruko, characters have all the time in the world. Assuming we're not getting 'Yukio Mishima is the true mastermind, for realsies this time' with some ability that lets exactly 5 ppl [insert some enabler here], that is. (if you're going to literally objectify Bram, why stop there? If planning is so meticulous, why expect anyone getting caught before the key points, why it would be important for at least the members to acknowledge him as DoA? If Bram is not part of DoA, who cares?)

...wait a second. They're terrorists. The group is small and loosely organized👍. 'Kamui' identity implies minimal contact👍. With 5 members, why even HAVE a name? How did the knowledge of it leak outside the group? Why would any of them mention DoA to outsiders? If you need to namedrop a group, why not Rats? Why not form a fake DoA from Rats, as merely something to route the name DoA to, if Rats are already an established brand that doesn't gel with DoA, fake-goal wise? Why would ADA-as-terrorists need a name, either? When presumably the entire agency is into terrorism? If for claiming responsibility, what-for logicwise? Why go the extra mile when they're have been page-retconned to be caught red-handed? Why did the anime go out of it's way to establish Fyodor in the past, AND knowledgeable about how many ppl are in V? Which is just a rehash of all the previous questions. ...as per usual, start with with relevancy of nuclear war and somehow pivot to a completely different insight.

*i have THOUGHTS about this. Like, who is the final arbiter on whether what was written on the page sufficiently follows 'story-like logic'? if it's the writer, does that mean someone with head for horror can turn any scenario into Final Destination's nonsensical 'no matter how contrived, you will die.'? or get a bunch of authors, each with their own genre leanings and just madlibs the shit out of the plot?

CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE NUCLEAR WAR THATS ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN BSD???? Seriously put the sad gays down and focus.

CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE NUCLEAR WAR THATS ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN BSD???? Seriously Put The Sad Gays

One Order has been unleashed, Fukuchi has ordered the launch of multiple Nukes, the ADA is about to loose this battle forever and NO BODY IS TALKING ABOUT IT! Where are the Theorists rn??

CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE NUCLEAR WAR THATS ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN BSD???? Seriously Put The Sad Gays

I also want to say this page makes me so uncomfortable, the dozens of helicopters filling the sky like a swarm of insects is a horrifying Idea

CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE NUCLEAR WAR THATS ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN BSD???? Seriously Put The Sad Gays

Also we've finally seen One Order, nothing can convice me this wasn't a person once like the holy sword

CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE NUCLEAR WAR THATS ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN BSD???? Seriously Put The Sad Gays

or "a career proplayer team used this once in a tourney as a highly specific/suprise tactic" so now you're enjoying every random trying it out for at least three days.

re: being told what to do: either change your group (if you're into tryharding improvement comes only from understanding WHY top tables Do The Thing, and if you're not - it's on them to descend into scrubdom via secondary objectives), or acknowledge this insecurity of your random teammates is a skill issue on their part. If they were good enough they wouldn't be matched with you. otherwise: they're just hype another opponent just arrived and they want to blitz you to their skill level so you don't get frustrated by getting stomped/see what bedazzled them + at some point improvement itself is improved - random exploratory play gives way to deliberate practice.

but yes, and it's not even decided by a handful of nerds: various analytics sites showcase this is an inherent problem of competitive games

The trouble with trying to get into very niche multiplayer titles is that there's always this core group of like half a dozen players who've been fighting each other on a daily basis since pre-alpha and are the only ones who give the developers consistent feedback, and now the game's entire meta revolves around the personal idiosyncrasies of these five or six specific guys in a way that's balanced and competitive when taken on its own terms, but melts foreign organisms on contact.

the actual 5) get (shadow)banned from everywhere for being irritating

How to have a conversation about a topic you’re not interested in or don’t know anything about:

Listen to what the other person has to say about the topic.

Ask a question about what they said. Asking them to clarify or explain something you don’t understand is great, but any question will do. All else fails, ask them to explain what they like about some part of the topic.

Listen to their responses and go back to step 2.

Do this until 5-15 minutes has passed, then change the subject to a topic of your interest, unless you are actually interested in learning more on this subject, in which case, go on for as long as you like.

Sometimes, they will say something like “I’m sorry to blather on about [topic].” This is an attempt at a conversational dismount. You can either say “no, it was fascinating, thanks” and then bring up your own topic, or you can say “no, it’s fascinating, please keep going” if you want to keep hearing about their topic. Note the tense difference (past -> moving on, present -> keep going).

I just thought I’d write a script for this, because someone who can’t / won’t do this came up in a Captain Awkward column, and listening about topics you have no interest in is a really useful skill to have and not often explicitly taught, particularly to boys and men.

@analytical-machine:

i have this feeling it's about feeding mayoi on schedule. and also dumbing down the plot so ppl won't think about it deeply

@postcardorigami:

i dunno yknow like i want to believe it isn’t malicious but also with how they’ve done everything so far i just can’t help but feel like it is just a little bit coming out of some sort of dislike if not for the series then certainly for the people that are making it—like shrek being a punishment for the prince of egypt folks or something

to the second point i mean like it already has an audience from the manga and from previous anime seasons, so they’re not really taking that big of a risk with making it—what’s riskier is putting it out in a way that is so blatantly different from the source material and with the actual quality of what they ARE doing being so reduced even from previous seasons, and the only justification i can think of for that is if they don’t care or even actively dislike the series

The thing is glorious manga master race would watch the anime, no matter what. We see this in action right now. Therefore, the goal is to lure in the unaware - for which quality isn't actually needed as long as costs are recouped, but also - if someone watches the anime they have no reason to read the manga, b/c there is legit so much to consume. So if they imbibe a 'good enough' anime, it will not rewire their brains (consider: for BSD, classlit counts as extra materials. Can't profit off that - ex. NLH entered public domain relatively recently).

Moreover, i've been watching Monster on and off on the side and the anime is slow, visuals obviously old but aged well, just… has slow, low-to-no animation moments that give it a feel of being adapted literally panel-by-panel. Meanwhile, i jumped ship to manga after s1 and the biggest reason was… I was consistently distracted by the 'aha, this animation repeats to pad out the episode', 'this animation brings absolutely nothing to the plot, why is it there?'. Comparing it to respective manga parts makes it even worse, because in retrospect manga at the same time rushes and pads out. Like, you could just have some manga panels that are fundamentally stills with some voiceover and it would work. When you track what gets cut & what gets added - they remove the quiet moments (the sort that let the viewer ponder on the events before you're given next plot beat), and add meaningless animation loops that are the equivalent of jangling keys. If the logic behind them is to add levity to a serious plot - why?

Humor in a serious plot also has it's own pacing (read: to tactically control tension, not just to add whenever convenient), and it's existence in the 'core' plot completely changes the tone, especially when combined with wan! which, acts as a palate-cleanser - but one outside of the flow of the main chain of events, thus not changing the read of them.

so, they didn't have to do ANY of this. But they did. Who benefits? hence, option 1: churn for BSD mayoi. All yu-gi-oh animes move(d?) in tandem with card releases with episode quality swinging hard, so we absolutely have a precedent. option 2: noticable dislike for the source === malicious actions. We have a precedent - Firefly TV show. consider who exactly has the decisionmaking power here, what demographic: the kind that would not see spicy takes on mental health (did the anime get to the point where who should be framed as a deuteragonist just straight-up hallucinates? and the 'camera's eye' doesn't give a shit?). And what about unsubtle anti-war messaging? Yosano on the main cast, Fukuchi being a Metal Gear Solid refugee? But at the same time, aren't Hunting Dogs baaaasically military? quick check on wiki says is a rabbit hole, but the intended point stands: you just can't win with these characters. Plus moral ambiguity and noticable grayness implictly make it a harder sell for 'all audiences' (read: squeaky clean)

So, you force everything to be scheduled too fast, too quickly, too soon - using the excuse of (1) to cover for (2). (#1, and the terribad norms of the industry)

aaaand that's how you get away with murder *jazz hands*

the thing about this current season and the egregious errors, issues, etc. within it is that realistically none of this had to happen—i think it’s pretty obvious that not only on top of studio bones’ already apparent and seemingly deep-rooted disdain for the source material and specific crucial characters with immense impact on not only the plot but also on the development of the actual protagonist, the season is also incredibly rushed, and it didn’t need to be

season four came out only a few months ago. it would have been reasonable—and honestly it would have been expected—that bones wait at least another year to work on season 5 and develop the chapters covered here a little more, so that not only could they present a cleaner, better-paced, and more emotionally impactful product, but that they also would give the manga more time to finish this current arc so that if they did choose not to adapt anything afterwards, they could at least close out this part of the story on a halfway acceptable note

it’s not just disrespectful to the fans and asagiri/harukawa (my god, what they’ve done to harukawa’s beautiful art style should be considered a crime), but it’s frankly a poor reflection upon themselves, too, that they’ve pushed this season so quickly after the most recent one, seemingly without care for what it’s reception may be by the people who want to see the story done justice

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...

Why do you ask?

Desire (lust) to wait (sloth) so that curses (gloom) accumulate to cause more damage (wrath)? Nonsense straight out of Persona 5, with biding one's time specifically so that revenge will be sweeter. Also lol that mechanically he's what is labeled as buddha murti but what looks like khakkhara. Imagery of Heathcliff looking like a guy but being merely a staff to bonk the deserving(?).

The corrosion line kind of reinforces the 'playing the long game' take: "The wheel of samsara turns once." As in, it turns and the target is dead - but with it, there is no long game to play anymore, so (the reason to continue) Heathcliff is not more as well.

"I have not broken your heart - you have broken it; and in breaking it, you have broken mine."

is the quote that comes to mind, tho i'm sure someone who actually read it can pull out something much better ;^) Does that mean the quote is/will be a feather Cathy?

as for resistances: the pattern of weak-to-envy continues, in that someone else would have to sit his ass down and explain that this notion makes the world worse (instead of being to the point about it). Lust resist because it's the sort of harebrained plan that's less do-gooding and more feel-good (partially about one's inaction/inability to act). Light sloth resist as most of the time this mindset is in snooze mode ;D ...and also, why are they're equal? balancing aside maybe because if proportions are off, the behavior/vibe changes? Gloom it up too hard and it's just whining without doing anything at all. Wrath it up and retaliation is immediate. Lust it up and it's less karma themed and more just pummeling the target. Sloth it up and one ignores the opportunity to take revenge, blinded by despondency?

Oh This Sin Cost For Heathcliff's Ya Śūnyatā Tad Rūpam Is Juicy. I Don't Have The Brainpower For

Oh this Sin Cost for Heathcliff's Ya Śūnyatā Tad Rūpam is juicy. I don't have the brainpower for in-depth analysis right now but.

The pairs of opposites in Wrath-Sloth and Lust-Gloom. The sheer addition of Wrath and Gloom compared to Outis's. The lack of Pride compared to Outis's. It's just so.
