He was most likely a human sacrifice. He was hanged, a horrible, violent way to die, but he wasn’t scared, he didn’t care, because he was so sure that his death would mean something. The rope is still around his neck, his skin has visible lacerations from where it slowly killed him, but his eyes are so gently closed and he is smiling, relaxed, completely prepared for the reward of the next life.
