ROTTMNT : SPIRITS WITHIN THE WEAPONS

After spending weeks with the young turtle weilders, Fundi, Oda and Tonfa finally decided to go get Hal.

While their weilders were sleeping— it took them a while to find a day when neither Leo or Donnie were awake— they seem to alternate sleepless nights—— the spirits sneaked back to Draxum's lab and grabbed the Halberd that was left behind.

When they got back to the lair Hal wouldn't come out for over a week.

Eventually Fundi got bored and forced Hal out.

Hal contuined to sulk afterwards when Fundi refused to left him back into the Halberd.

Once Hal started to explore more though, he found Donnie to be really interesting and stuck to him like a shadow.

Unlike the other spirits, Hal decided not to form himself with any of Donnies tech or gear. He prefures all natural.

The spirits stashed the Halberd somewhere hidden in Donnies lab— so far no one has found it.

Hal was suprised by the computers, tech and even simple mundane electrical devices, leading the other spirits to wonder just how old Hal really was— secretly Oda also hadn't known what a computer, phone or even a microwave was.

Hal really enjoys watching Donnie work, whether it's creating new tech or playing games, Hal likes watching Donnie hyperfixate.

Hal can tell when Donnie is over/under simulated quicker than anyone— even Donnie himself sometimes.

Hal doesn't mind that Donnie doesn't use the Halberd. He actually prefures the tech-bo Donnie uses anyway.

Sheldon kinda spooks Hal a little

I finally got around to drawing Hal! This drawing surprisenly didn't take as long as the others, but the next one is going to be an awful lot harder. Still, I think I'm getting better at drawing the turtles.

The Spirits' reactions to the Mystic Library Mikey's echo scene.

Fundi Part 2

Somehow knows exactly what Mikey is thinking at all times. Which can get really creepy.

Insists one day he will be able to communicate telepathically with Mikey.

Fundi takes no time to practice with the weapons he inhabits, making him the only spirit who cannot use his own weapon.

However, when Mikey weilds the Kusari-Fundo, Mikey and Fundi are the most in sync with each other.

He found out he can skateboard if he stands on the board with the Kusari-Fundo between his feet and the skateboard he normally couldn't stand on.

Fundi can form himself with normal eyes, like the others, but prefures to keep his bright firey eyes.

However, when something is really wrong with him— whether he's suffering another flash of memory or is stressed (see P1 for more)— the fire in his eyes will die down to either a tiny flicker or even go out complete, depending on how stressed he is.

Fundi will encourage Mikey— or anyone for that matter— to do something stupid or dangerous or chaotic.

Ultimate prankster.

Cannot be left alone. Ever.

Oda and Tonfa are glad Mikey can't see or hear Fundi, they'd be scared for the young turtle's saftey otherwise.

Honestly, there is nothing Fundi can do at this point that will surprise Oda. Fundi knows this so tries his utmost to surprise Oda... It hasn't worked... yet.

Tonfa can never find it in him to tell Fundi off or yell at him for any trouble he causes.

Oda will glare silently at Fundi until the awkwardness gets to Fundi and he caves and apologises for whatever he did.

Oda has no problem in finding creative punishments for Fundi.

Oda finds it all too easy to find something Fundi hates, keeping it in mind for a time when he can use it against Fundi.

Punishments such as: being forced to sit next to Spliter and watch all the dramas/adverts he watches; forced to clean the Kusari-Fundo; forced to meditate while the turtles are having fun— fun he wants to be involved in.

I will do a post on Hal and Donnie next since I feel I'm neglecting Hal.

With the spirit in the weapon au what happened to them after shredder and since donnie got his Hamato ninpo do they get Hal?

Ahh that's the thing.... in the UK I haven't got access to season 2 😫 (Paramount only had season 1)

I'm loosely aware of their fight with shredder and about their ninpo, but don't know much. I'm trying to avoid spoilers for season 2 (although its been out ages) because I'm hoping ONE DAY I'll be able to watch it.

Have seen the film though lol.

Despite that, I'm pretty sure the other spirits would do anything to get Hal involved eventually, even if he is reluctant about it—though Hal would secretly enjoy the attention.

Hal would basically become some sort lab assistant for Donnie, and since Hal is pretty agreeable and hates causing problems for anyone, he and Donnie would get along quite well—of course Donnie has no idea he's there though, since no one can see the spirits.

That's all I can really say though 😅

Antics the Spirits get up to while the turtles are sleeping...

Honestly, Oda doesn't know why he even bothers to mediate knowing that Fundi can't last five minutes without causing some trouble/bothering him.

Tonfa has to use the Tonfas to flip the pages of the comic as the Spirits cannot interact with anything other than the weapons they inhabit.

This makes so much sense!

Folks are over-using the term “AU”

I’ve added the “Canon Compliant” tag to all of my comics on ao3, because I’ve noticed a strange amount of people calling “The Brains and The Brawn” an “AU” or “Alternate Universe”, when… it’s not…?

An “Alternate Universe” story takes place in a universe completely different from the canon - think Fantasy AUs, High School AUs, or fics using the same characters as canon but a plot from a different story (which could lead into “crossovers”, but I digress).

Yet I see folks misuse this term for LOTS of fics or comics, and as someone who prides themselves in trying to get their comics as close to canon as possible, it admittedly makes me feel like I’m failing a bit at that if people are calling my comics “alternate universes” since I usually intend them to slot somewhere into the canon storyline.

I would call the main comics I’ve created so far to be “Canon Compliant” which are stories with the same characters, setting, and plot, and no big changes to the canon (examples are missing scene fics, fics based on canon character backstories (think “turtle tots”), or other general fics meant to be seen as an “episode” of the show).

There’s also “Canon Divergent” or “Universe Alteration” which are stories with the same characters, same setting, and same plot up until the plot diverges from a specific point in the canon and things after that point are altered (plot may or may not swing back around to fit back into the canon) (examples: LFLS, what if x character lived/died after a certain point, what if a certain battle was lost/won? etc.) I point out “Like Father, Like Son” here because while it is not my story, @eternalglitch​ has stated on numerous occasions that it is a “Universe Alteration”. It’s the same universe, not an alternate one. Some events just changed the plot in a major way. The events altered the universe, not the other way around.

So anyway, that’s my little TED talk for the day; just letting folks get to know their tags and fan stories better. I’m also trying to be clearer with my tags and how I present my stories so folks get a better understanding for them.

Halberd

Hal has none of his previous memories but believes that if he forgot them so easily then that means they weren't that important to him in the first place. *Shrug*

Due to Donnie leaving him behind, Hal remains formless. 

Hal is reclusive, withdrawn and sarcastic. 

Hal spends a lot of time twirling and vibrating the spiked ball at the end of his chain in his formless self. 

He finds Fundi and Tonfa to be too loud for him, but he gets along with Oda who is more than willing to chill in silence. 

When the young turtles took the other weapons but left Hal behind Hal didn't mind much. Rather he saw this as a well needed break from Fundi's and Tonfa's excessive talking. 

Hal has no sense of time, sometimes days feel like hours and sometimes hours feel like days. 

Hal is more than happy to let his blade go blunt. 

Hal doesn't hate the turtles for leaving him behind. 

Oda is the only one Hal could talk to about his insecurities. 

Hal would feel guilty when he panicked Tonfa.

Does Hal miss the other spirits now that he's alone…? Maybe. A little. A teeny tiny part of him does wish he wasn't alone but he never acknowledges this part of him.

Kusari-Fundo

Nicknames: Fundi / Kuso / Funari

Unpredictable, wild and hectic, Fundi is always eager to get into some action, sometimes going a little too out of control for Mikey.

However, Fundi eventually settles down once he finds out that Mickey is also kinda all over the place with his gymnastic-type fighting and fun-spirited nature.

Fundi loves pranking the other spirits and causing trouble. 

Fundi loves it when Mikey goes into Dr Delicate-Touch mode. 

Don't let anyone ever tell him to put out his fire or dim his light, or Fundi will not hesitate to whoop their arse. 

Fundi's formless self consists of a flaming head appearing on the spiked ball at the end. Before taking on Mikey's form he used to whizz around but could only get as far as his chain would allow, since the end of the kusari-fundo was attached to the weapons wall. He hated being tied down. 

Fundi doesn't mind what Mikey uses him for, as long as he gets to do something and not sit around all day. 

Fundi is the only one who can somewhat be heard and seen by the turtles, but this only happens when he's super hyped. All the turtles see is a raging face of fire laughing maniacally.  

Fundi respects/fears Oda. Especially when Oda goes quiet because then Fundi knows he has pushed Oda too far.  

Fundi loves chatting with Tonfa, to Oda's and Hal's annoyance. 

Fundi was the first spirit to take on his wielder's form. Tonfa was next and, reluctantly— and only because he missed having a body— Oda took on Leo's form last.  

Fundi could never understand Hal's passiveness and reluctance to do anything. 

Fundi doesn't have any previous memories and the others are a little too scared to find out who he was before he was attached to the Kusari-Fundo. 

However, Fundi does get flashes of old memories occasionally, and by his reaction the others know these aren't good memories. 

These flashes of old memories cause panic attacks, nightmares and make him act uncharacteristically. However, he often forgets the flash of memory soon after. 

Sometimes Fundi goes suddenly quiet and still — worrying Tonfa who knows that this uncharacteristic behavior of his is due to something weighing heavy on him. 

Fundi talks opening to both Tonfa and Oda. He knows that Tonfa offers support, while Oda offers blunt answers. Both are very helpful. 

Like Tonfa, Fundi sees the others as his brothers. He enjoys being seen as the youngest, as this often means he can get away with trouble.

Tonfas

Nicknames: Tonfa / Tonton / Onas

Tonfa has no memories before being attached to the Tonfas, but is not bothered by this. 

It was Tonfa's idea to name themselves after their weapons, — since none of them but Oda knew their original names— and is also the one who gave everyone nicknames. 

Tonfa is the most similar to his wielder Raph out of all the weapons. 

Tonfa likes to know the ideas, thoughts and feelings of his wielder so that he can work better with them. 

Any wielder that doesn't have strong ideals for good, or would rather use the Tonfas to hurt others he hates. 

Tonfa's formless self consists of red particles and shielding appearing around the tonfas. Before he took on Raph's form he used to enjoy forming little shapes out of the particles coming off the tonfas. 

Tonfa really loves Raph. 

At first Raph's eagerness to fight was off-putting to Tonfa, since he prefers peaceful methods, but he realized that Raph is a big softy despite it all. 

Tonfa is very protective of his wielder, and because Raph is very protective of his brothers, Tonfa is too. 

Tonfa considers Oda, Fundi, and Hal to be his brothers. 

Tonfa is the most upset that Hal was left behind but also knows that Hal himself doesn't mind too much. 

Sensitive to other's feelings and thoughts, Tonfa will do all he can to help and can become quite panicky if he can't. 

Hal used to panic Tonfa a lot with how insecure the halberd was. 

Tonfa is never insecure about himself or his role.

Despite them all knowing that Oda is probably the oldest, they all look to Tonfa for guidance and support, even Oda. 

Tonfa loves savage Raph and mind Raph.

Odachi

Nicknames : Oda / Chi / Ochi

Oda is the only spirit that has all his old memories, but he never tells anyone his past. Like the others, he decided to adopt the weapons name as his own, despite knowing his original name. 

Although the other spirits don't know their ages, they all know that Oda is a lot older than them. 

Oda is stern, calm and collected, and mysterious. However, his firm attitude comes across as him not caring about what others think or feel, when really he is super intuitive to others thoughts and feelings but pretends otherwise.

Oda is more than willing to listen to and help the other spirits with their problems and insecurities, but his answers and solutions—although helpful— are often too blunt. 

Oda thinks Leo is too child-like to wield a dangerous weapon and mystic power such as the Odachi and portals. 

Oda deliberately made it hard for Leo to use the Odachi, wanting to test Leo to see if he was worthy to use the Odachi. 

Eventually, Oda sees Leo's determination to fight for his family. This determination and stubbornness to give up on using the mystic portal abilities, despite multiple failures, is what changes Oda's mind. 

Overtime Oda learns to trust Leo with the Odachi, knowing that, although it may not seem like it, the young turtle knows what he's doing. 

Although it took a while, Oda started to really enjoy Leo's sense of humor, even going as far as to laugh at his more stupider jokes. 

Oda constantly threatens the other spirits if they ever mention how he likes the young turtles wielding him— although they all know he never goes through with his threats. 

Oda is the only one who can keep Fundi in check. 

Oda doesn't talk much, but the others can hear his sighs and eye-rolls miles away. He's full of eyebrow raises, huffs and disappointed headshakes. 

Hums old tunes a lot. 

Oda's formless self consists of blue lightning whizzing around the blade and brilliant blue eyes appearing from the lightning. He can whip the sword around by itself but can't access any portals or teleportation. 

Oda hates it when his blade goes blunt. Before he was able to take on Leo's form he stressed about the condition of his blade, but now that he has a form he can sharpen it himself when the others are asleep. 

All the other spirits rely on Oda, trusting him with their lives as well as all their problems and insecurities. 

Oda loves to meditate and train, and while the others are sleeping, he can sometimes be seen by the other spirits practicing with the Odachi. 

Although he denies it, Oda is the only one who has tried multiple times to reach out to Leo, often to stop the young turtle form doing something stupid, but alas, they can't touch or communicate with the real world. 

The other spirits know Oda is soft for Leo, and secretly they all wish they could interact with the turtles just so that they could see Oda talk with Leo like they know he wants to. 

Oda often talks about old teas he used to love drinking but can't anymore (the only time he speaks of his past) and secretly enjoys watching Jupiter Jim and Lou Jitus with the turtles—though will deny it when someone mentions it.   

Thinks of Hal the most but knows that Hal probably doesn't think of them much.

So I've had this trivial idea stuck in my head for a while that kinda intrigued (and bothered) me enough that I had to share it. 

Basically…. What if the mystic weapons each of the turtles wield has a living spirit inside it? 🤔

Indulge me, please:

Say, when the mystic weapons were created they unintentionally accessed formless spirits to inhabit the weapons. Spirits that remained conscious when the turtles "borrowed" the mystic weapons. However, they chose to stay hidden so that they could observe their new turtle wielders.

Overtime they formed such a bond with their wielders that an unbreakable unity was created that allowed the turtles to access more and more power from their weapons. 

Also, when the turtles aren't looking, the spirits in the weapons communicate with each other, mostly to discuss their welders, deciding that they are going to do all they can to look after the young turtles. They also adopt their formless natures to take on the image of their wielders, forms the turtles can't (yet) see. 

(But then I realize that Donnie didn't take the halberd which kinda makes me sad for the spirit inhabiting it…)

I guess that makes this idea more Canon Compliant than an Alternate Universe. I just see it as the Spirits within the Weapons interacting with each other behind the scenes without the turtles knowing.

Hmmm… just food for thought…😅
