When I Look

When I look

Into your eyes,

It's like I've

Crash-landed on a

Rare planet.

Everyone recognizes it,

But I can't quite put my finger

On what its name is

Or where I've seen it before.

And then I go exploring.

I walk for a little,

Take steps around the new place.

I come across

A great, big lagoon

Right in the middle.

I get closer,

And it's hollow.

It's deep;

It goes down for miles.

(Maybe that's how Alice

Ended up in Wonderland:

By felling into you.)

I go to take a drink

And splash my face

With its warmth.

Winds blow steady on this planet,

Cooling my being.

And as I fall back

On the sandy surface floor,

I tell you to bury me here

If I die someday.

Bury me beneath

The dirt and the gold

Next to the oasis.

I'll never return to Earth.

Who would want to

After captured this way

By the ones who house

Such brown eyes?
